Yea, focus on making friends outside of parties, stay away from greek life, and mainly just put your head down and do what you want to do. And don’t be in a rush to make friends when you get to campus, ideally take the first few weeks to settle yourself and then see what groups have like-minded people to you and personally, i found the recreational clubs (dance, sport, etc.) to be a good way to make kind friends
Don’t avoid the crazy. I’m 31 and was reserved like you and ended up having a loser 20s and am going back to school now to try to get my life on track. Get out of your comfort zone and start saying yes.
