The S is from the Japanese word for "Exemplary" (秀, shū), and originates from the widespread use in Japanese culture of an 'S' grade for advertising and academic grading.
Legend. Now I know🙏🏼🙏🏼
As an avid anti tanker, the panzershreck factor gives a slight edge to german tanks in my opinion. If they evened out the damage between bazooka and panzershreck, different ballgame
Yea I completly agree. Just makes the german tank artificially stranger vs anti tankers
Why would they do that? That makes no historical sense
@@bro3217 I'm not saying they will or should. I'm just explaining why german tanks have an advantage because bazookas are weaker than panzershrecks.
No way they should EVER equalise the bazooka to the panzerschrek. The bazooka was a 60mm warhead , the panzerschrek was 88mm .
(Basically a rocket assisted tiger tank round!!) In RL it was way more effective too, if anything it's too WEAK in game.even on paper
M6 bazooka 135mm pen
Panzerschrek 165mm pen
Panzerfaust 203mm pen
(This is a perfect hit- Not accounting accuracy, distance, range of weapon etc)
When you consider the tigers best armour was 100mm thick you can see these weapons could get through the best armour but that's only if they fire correctly, fly straight and hit correctly- this is where combat reputation should be considered imo)
IF you had to equalise the weapons then MAYBE the Germans should be given the throw away, 1 shot panzerfaust. This way you could keep the larger warhead sizes they used as you would get a single shot. However I'd be really annoyed if they did it.
I don't want some artificial balance in this game. I want a simulated war. The whole reason I prefer HLL to COD or even Battlefield.
Too many games do this balancing nonsense to pander to complaining players. The "BALANCE" should come with the cost of the tanks imo, ALLIES had way more tanks and tanks like Tigers and Panthers were a lot more of a rarity than say the sherman 76. Even panzer IV were less numerous than Shermans. If they made shermans cheap that would balance out vs the better hand held AT weapons.
But I doubt many would accept this mechanic. (SADLY)
If I had my way I'd make the panzerschrek and panzerfaust a 1 hit kill. Add the single shot panzerfaust to level 1 german AT trooper and panzerschrek a level 6+upgrade. One having better range, Shermans I'd make half the cost of the panzer 4.
Bazooka I'd make a 1 hit kill but would penetrate much less often or need to be closer to be effective (based on real testimony if it can be aquired)
Also maybe more rockets carried by bazooka? because the rounds were smaller and lighter. (Typically these had 2 man teams and the loader carried 3 rounds on his back for the panzerschrek but this would have to be a compromise of course).
Id give this to player...
3 rounds for panzerschrek
4 rounds for bazooka.
1 per panzerfaust .
@@bro3217 Not saying they should even out the damage of the rocket launchers, but it's not like this game hasn't made compromises for game balance in other places too... It doesn't really care too much about historical accuracy.
I'm glad u brought up the AT argument at 17:00 because it's a huge factor
I'd like to see a "How to play" series... IDK if you would want to do a "How to use" for each individual tank but you could definitely educate us plebs on "how to use" a Stewart and a Medium and a heavy ect ect...
yesss
very good idea id like to see that!
I like this idea. First I gotta do it for tank roles though
@@TheFreshBakedGoods Any guides from you guys i will ABSORB
The Panther’s armor and mobility make it an “A” tier, the six second reload heavy gun makes it an “S”. A well deserved class of its own.
I think, from someone who played AT alot, you do the T70 injustice compared to the Stuart. I've only seen a few, but the hull-profile makes it very hard to hit the T70 in the right place to pen and kill him. Front and back are likely to ricochet and on the side you're likely to hit turret or tracks... if it even stands still for you to aim. The Sturat on the other hand it literally a box.
Great video, as always! Re: the Stewie spins: the Luchs absolutely spins as bad, if not worse than a Stewart when hit with projectiles (including bazooka rounds). As AT, I've hit them in the rear/engine, but with a SLIGHT funky angle, and they've spun 180 and waxed me.
I have to respectfully disagree with you guys on the T70. It lacks a hull MG, but it absolutely hauls ass, and is like a mini-Panther in that it can handle any terrain. With a solid crew it can be used to flank med/heavies on any map with maybe Kursk being an exception. I regularly pub stomp heavies with that thing on Stalingrad and Kharkov. B-tier for me.
With regard to AT - I think you made the right call factoring in AT! The Medium Sherman is a better tank than PZ4 on paper, but front pen on a Med Sherman from German AT is such a huge liability.
A few random thoughts on heavies: I'm so happy you mentioned the huge bounce of the Panther! Something that I wish was mentioned with the Tiger : it's insanely smooth when jerking to a halt for the gunner, and it's so quiet while inside, which I love! Re: Jumbo 76: it has a weird hitbox in the rear, which makes it difficult to hit engine shots. There's a lot of dead space back there on the cargo that will not allow a panzershrek to penetrate unless it's dead-on.
This list is legitimately terrific. The IS-1 in D-tier and T-70 in C-tier (I'd put them in C and B, respectively) are the only things I take slight umbrage with, but you guys talked through your decision making, which was so great.
Luchs is the tank i have the must fun playing, chaos all the way from start to respawn.
Not that we ever need a Tiger ll in this game, but it would be fun too have one ^^
^ This guy gets it.
Honestly I never thought the Sherman 75 jumbo would be good, but recent I joined a game late with 20 minutes left and a tank crew with an open slot. They were running in the 75 and needed a gunner. We managed to get both enemy armor down on the last point, a panther and a p4. The smoke actually came in clutch. As we were near a hedge, we got a shot on the panther and we needed to move, so I smoked out the panther and we moved positioning. Managed to get two more shots off and take down the panther. We also one shot the p4 by hitting the side. It was a fun game. But I understand how it would be a better value to just get a 76. It takes longer to take out enemy armor with the 75, and is riskier. Smoke can be a hit or miss. Overall though, I agree with your guys’ rankings! Good points were mentioned 💯
S stands for superior in most cases when applied to tier lists, for anyone wondering.
I have wrecked a couple heavies in the M4A3 by loading up a smoke round when I knew I’d be engaging him from front, fired rounds, kept smoking him, rolled right up behind him and started slamming AP.
I’ve done the same to a Tiger in a Jumbo 75 by smoking it, hiding behind a hedge row, and he pushed straight to us. Some Fury shit.
Note! IS 1 lower front plate is trash. If you get caught with a shot straight on from the Panther or Tiger. You’re dead. If your not able to angle it’s lights out.
I love how everyone has their own perspective and it just added to the love for this game
maybe a update to include the british tanks
It didn't seem like 40 minutes. I did enjoy the discussion and will be very interested to see where the new tanks coming in June fit into this. Sounds like a short update will be in the works! 😊
I think you under ranked the T70. It's one of the fastest and best driving tanks in the game. You can outscore heavy tank crews by doing long flanks on german tanks. Need to be an A or B for sure.
is-1 placement is gold lol
That's fair comparison and I'm happy with it...only thing bare in mind for the future videos like this, that if is possible also try to prioritize and categorize them horizontally at same time...i never see someone do it but I think it's important when u have to choose between a t34 and a tiger or a recon or a light tank in that column.
Hey Fresh, just thought I'd let you know you put the Luchs in the wrong tier. It should clearly be Tier B. I hope you do a correction video.
Great list guys. I’ve played a fair amount in tanks , I’m okay but no where near as good as you guys. That said the changes I’d make are:
- boot that Luchs to D. I just don’t feel like the manoeuvrability and coolness make up for the trash splash damage.
- boot that jumbo 75 to F. Your never gunna use it and the fact you can get a clown car for free puts it on the same level for me.
- bump the IS1 to C. Just cuz of the ricochet. Though if there was a D.5 it would probably go there.
I'm really looking forward to comparing the Brit tanks with this list. The Firefly will probably play the same as the Sherman 76, but I'd also love to see the Churchill as an alternative heavy, the Cromwell as a fast medium, the Valentine as a slow medium/light, a Stuart or the AEC as a light, and either the AEC or the Humber as recon.
Really hope they have the Churchill too, as well Cromwell and Valentine.
Maybe even Crusader tank for the desert map.
Amped for the British forces.
It'd be a crime to put the Firefly on the same power level as a 76. The 17-pounder outclassed the 76 by far, only drawback of the 17-pounder was it was not as accurate.
@@alarminglyfastmovingskelet7289 yeah definitely. It’ll be interesting to see how they manage it really. The Firefly being a very good tank destroyer.
Hope they just have some variation, Sherman’s everywhere will be boring.
@@alarminglyfastmovingskelet7289 I thought the 17 pdr was fairly accurate, just using the APDS round knocked off accuracy
@Stephen Lawrence Inaccurate compared to it's counter-parts, atleast.
List is spot on tbh but funny thing with the IS-1 I got my highest combat score of the tank crew at 14,000 when kursk 1st came out but it’s still a bucket of shit haha
I'm relatively new to tanking, but loving it. I don't know how people recognize tanks "panzer 4 incoming!" etc. I'm like "Tank incoming!" "What kind?" "It's big 'n slow, idfk"
IS-1 I actually disagree with, it’s A for me. Love using it.
right, such a good tank in my opinion, i always find myself up against 2-3 tanks at once and not once have one of them taken me out. once had 2 tigers and a panther taking me on and they just couldn’t pin me
Tanks alot!🤩
The Russians captured a tiger and found that you could shear off the hatch with a hit. You could also disable the turret with small arms rounds into the seal of the barrel. IS 1 had a 85mm main gun and weighed 97000lbs
S-tier stands for Stuart
The Puma has a 50mm KwK 39 L/60 gun. The same long gun that was on the Panzer III Ausf. L
Stuarts with good drivers and Commanders are just a menace, waay undertiered. You can either play clean up crew or even hunt tanks. More dangerous to heavies than mediums.
40 minutes... and I needed something to chill out to after work. Thanks bud
As a driver main I'm giving more weight to jacks opinions on this listen.
People say the tiger has bad mobility when the tiger has tracks that are very wide which means it can do a 360 turn decently fast
"Hey, he's got a face cam! :D"
"Oh no, he's a Padres fan! D:"
The greyhound is an A tank. the amounts om matches ive won by going around destroying garries, other tanks, supply trucks, disturbing artillery, desimating infantry etc is very high. its a high risk high reward tank. With no other tanks have i ever made as much impact in any game
Honestly, imo any tank that uses the DT coax is an auto D or below. That coax is basically unusable imo, and yes im including the IS-1 in the group
Aren't the recon tanks like functionally identical though besides their target profile?
Would be great if you guys did another video to include the British tanks. I wanna know how they stand up to the rest
The video is great. In my opinion, the Tiger should be moved down to tier B since it is not on the same level as the 76 tank. Additionally, I suggest moving the Stuart up to tier A and the Luchs to tier B, as the Luchs is proficient in killing lightly armored vehicles and garrison behind enemy lines. Doing class vs class is better as there is no point doing a light tank vs a heavy etc. It was a very interesting video tho.
I like how this game has the panzer 2 but it the king tiger or panzer 4 J or T-34-85
One of you sound just like comedian TJ Miller
T 34 is goated if never had a problem with at with it and one time I rolled up on a panther and tiger as a two man crew and was able to take them both out from the back before they got wise
Pzr 4 disrespect is crazy personally I love the tank just cause of how recognizable and iconic it is but is see your point, I think mobility is a problem for all tanks and the whole thing with clipping is just part of armour gameplay.
My question is: why does the Luchs not have both HE rounds and AP rounds for it's 20mm? It had the PzGr 40 AP-CR round which could penetrate up to 40mm of armour, which is enough to side or rear penetrate most allied armour, or at least track them. Historically the Germans also used that round in AA guns against ground targets, since it could shoot straight through buildings and kill anyone inside.
I mean, technically in game the round is modeled as both HE and AP at the same time. The 20mm can’t go through the front of light tanks, but it goes right through armored cars, and can actually go through the sides and rear of light tanks. It can’t go through the sides of mediums, but I think it can go through the rear of medium tanks, but that I’m not positive of. If it was HE, it wouldn’t be able to do damage to any armored vehicle, even the Greyhound.
@@610Blackhawk yes, but I'm wondering why there are not two ammo types in the game. Having two types would allow each of them to be slightly stronger at their intended purpose, which would be more accurate to history, and would add a very slightly higher skill level to the Pz.II.
The Lucas is good for crowd control on infantry. Other than that it's not great. Recon tanks are great for going back and killing nodes, arty, or garrisons
What do the numbers mean on the gunners reticle and how do you use them for range and elevation to score
accurate hits?
Thanks !
The game don't support it, they are useless.
The numbers typically refer to range in hundreds of meters. So a 5 means 500 meters, a 10 means 1,000 meters, etc. Unfortunately, adjusting the sights on guns is currently impossible in game. You just have to practice and learn how much each round tends to drop at range, and learn to judge distances, so that you can eventually get a feel for how much you need to elevate the gun to hit a target.
Hearing the BF1 soundtrack brings back nostalgia.
Great video man! And the puma actually had a 50 mm gun basically the same gun as the pzlll which is a tank they should add to the game imo.
Good call out. I think I said it had a 75. Thanks for the correction.
I think this is a spot on tier list. There might be other videos for this, but would you mind making a video on all the ricochet angles on the tanks?
Look up the tank bible by TL for hll you'll find some cool stuff
t70 for me dosent feel as nimble as the stuart, and the lack of hull MG cannot be overstated, when I try to assault infantry positions, or pick off a engineer or panzershreck.
Howdy folks! S tier comes from the Japanese word for "Exemplary" (秀, shū), and originates from the widespread use in Japanese culture of an 'S' grade for advertising and academic grading.
Please make a video of a compilation of luch convoys attacking a single garry etc
I would put panzer 4 in S tier cause it has speed and armor mixed in 80mms of armor a long 75mm it’s just as good as the Sherman
All they would have to do it fix the is1 is make it the is2 with the 122m gun and let it one shot everything.
I actually agree with a lot of stuff on this list, but I think the jumbo 75 should be even with, or better than the medium 75. Another thing about the is-1 (and by extension, the t-34) the coax absolutely sucks ass, and that aspect isn’t talked about enough in my opinion.
Lux has to be D, especially if pz4 is on C. Experienced crew can Fuq shit up with pz4 even with its defects
Jumbo 75 should be F-Tier, not only because of the 75 Gun but its got 8 sec reload as well, its just all the bad of medium and heavy combined
Love the list! Personally, I'd bump the Stewart to A but otherwise it's spot on!
P IV is S tier for me. I love driving that baby
Luchs is D in my opinion, the only good quality is just the cheese blitz right into a garry. Other than that after the HE nerf I would rather have the Puma.
Yeah but Luchs can soke up lot of bazookas on front and side but recon tank can get destroyed by anything in 1 shot
Luchs should be higher than C because the AT in the faction it against can’t penetrate its front armor.
Even with a full squad I always prefer light or recon tanks
Gonna continue this now that British tanks are in the game or wait until patches get things evened out?
IS - 1 ‘s got a very sensitive first gear for slow rolls
I love this but mannnnnn my puma needs more justice😤😭
Great video though I love the discussion!!
P.s. Nice hat! San Diego gang🤞🏼
aye! wheres my boy the churchil?!
They should add different tanks like a stug and call it a hybrid tank
T70 is the only russian tank I am willing to use, its speed and low profile make it epic on long karkov and stalingrad flanks. I kinda feel the stuart (an even more amazing tank) could be one higher and T70 would move above the recons.
It’s gonna be chaos if they add the calliope rocket Sherman
I could be wrong but I think the BA-10 takes two rockets to destroy?
It takes one panzershrek round unless you hit tracks or turret. It's weird because sometimes turret shots will kill it, other times it'll eat one and still live.
@@hereswhatsleft OK thanks is that the same with other recon tanks?
@@MattMarshallUK Yessir! All recon tanks are 1 rocket, whether it's a bazooka or panzershrek, providing you hit them in the hull.
@@hereswhatsleft nothing pisses me off more than having to waste an extra rocket on a recon tank because my first shot was sloppy and didn't hit hull
What the tank? The puma never and will never use a 7,5 Cm (The Pack Puma uses a 7,5 Cm but is not the puma that they were talking about) it use a 5,0 Ccm canon with around 114mm of pen (Impresive for how small it is)
You got to do the Brits now.
Tiger is C for me. To easy to be killed and hangs on everything.
The 75 jumbo for me is B tier because I got my first Khan with it. 217 kills no death had to reload it twice. And that Smoke is hella nice. Panther smoke that bitch and RUN AWAY and hide then pop it and smoke HIDE and then kill it.
IF team 17 made the Sherman able to have the gyroscopic turret., Then the Sherman would be higher.
Tiger has an 88mm. The IS2 had 122mm, IS1 has an 85mm
Soundtrack for this video??? Relaxed watching such a stressful ranking process 😂😂
The ranking system is taken from manga cartoons and is character power levels . It barely makes any sense in the cartoons but now its used for everything. God knows why. ('A' should be best-)
Ba10 - based on truck chassis , was poor mobility but fairly descent firepower, had 45mm gun plus in RL had a machine gun in hull and detachable tracks over the rear wheels. But in HLL it is pretty lame, no seperate mg
Pumaz- or sdkfz234/2, 8x8 wheels drive (56mph) and has 50mm gun not 75mm(that was sdkfz 234/4).Armour was a paper thin frontal 30mm and it shouldnt bounce well really. The turn circle should be better as it had extremely complicated 8 wheel steering.typical german over engineering. But it was good in RL just so expensive it was very rare compared to allied equivalents. Cross country was excellent.
Greyhound - 6x4 vehicle, 2 wheels steered, notoriously bad cross country so shouldnt match a puma cross country at all, slow in RL unless on a road, then it was quick (55mph) The gun was only 37mm so shouldnt match the puma at all (!) but does in HLL and was open top with 25mm frontal so should be more vulnerable but doesnt seem to be in HLL.
Stewart you pretty much covered. Good tank maybe slightly over represented in HLL.
LUCHs - very rare in RL pretty much as bad as the real thing i think. Turn circle should be better maybe?? as they shortened the track contact length for this.
Agree with the rating you gave with current model.
T70 i dont know much about either! In game or RL.
panzerIV - agree with what you said. In RL that 75mm was a great gun, way better than 75mm on sherman but Ah well HLL .
Sherman - i think the side vulnerabilty is right, mobility should be better than panzer too from what ive read.
T34 - i think theyve overdone the t34 in HLL as it is so easy to use , in RL its supposed to be a dog, gearbox and terrible vision etc. HLL doesnt really show this. Armour was sloped but was it this good , not sure it was.
The rest you pretty much covered. The game seems to get them pretty much right, apart from gun strengths and power! (reloads etc) HLL equalises the guns which is weird imo.
IS1 should be as bad as it is from what ive read. Was a bit of a dog. View from inside was horrendous and the gun took an AGE to reload. It was 122m though!
JUMBO - Less said the better? 😂
Sherman76 i cant say what i think anout HLL representation. Would cause too many arguements! 😂
You guys need to update with new update 14 tanks 😁
The viewport on IS -1 ain’t that bad
Stewie not being S tier is sacrilege!!!
As a noob I enjoyed this
I know in my head the Panthers better
But my heart means I always pick the Tiger 😂
"S" for Strike.
Sherman is a solid S
Why no British tanks?
Sorry... its a 50mm gun my friend.
Tank rank
Tank rank
I thought S tier was just "superior"
stuart S fast , behind killing all tanks and piu other place and panther S other are more camping tanks
S teir=superior ?
Straight from the Military specs manual for the IS1 Main gun and it's role in WW2
"D-25T 122 mm gun
They were mainly designed as breakthrough tanks, firing a heavy high-explosive shell that was useful against entrenchments and bunkers."
In other words they were not meant to fight open country battles
Is-1 was more of the test tank, only 200ish were built and they used mostly 85mm and some tested 100mm. The IS-2 has the upgraded 122mm and was the main produced tank spanning thousands
Where ever your getting your information from , I would heavily question it if they think a IS1 has a 122mm gun
The IS-1 used a D-5T 85mm gun, the IS-2 used the D-25T 122mm.
S tier = God tier
Awesome
A tricky list... i'll put the M8 on the D, it's a 1 shot/schreck/mine vehicle.. and if you stop you gonna die, the T70 it's a solid F, that useless piece of crap sucks, only the ricochet save that piece of crap; and maybe move the Panzer 2 to the D, it's very fast but clips on every brick of the road and... it's quite jumpy on the bumps, plus the slow turning turret and the fact that's mainly useless againist tanks with a full crew, since the U7 or U9 that i don't kill a tank (a medium) from behind with a PZ2, the rest of the list it's fine by me.
The IS-1 was in fact an 85mm.
The only incorrect gun, that was ever in the game, was the original M4A1 which displayed a 76mm gun but inside the tank it stated it was a 75mm gun.
Penetration values are completely wrong though.
Well, to be fair, the IS-1 had a mislabeled gun when it was added, too. It was called an IS-1, and clearly had the D-5T 85mm modeled on it, but the UI for a while still labeled it as the D-25T 122mm, the IS-2’s gun. Eventually the UI was corrected though.
Driving an American heavy tank= dead by grandmas rpg. Vsing a American heavy tank=dead because it’s godmode unless your in a tiger.
IS-1 is realy a shame... it was using a 122 mm gun in real
That was the Is-2 that had the 122mm. Though its easy to mix them up because there was a lot more IS-2's made than IS-1. The game has asymmetrical balance anyway, I dont see why they didn't add the IS-2 with a 122 and have the gun be stronger but reload slower
@@bumblebeepotato The IS-2 is (or at least WAS) planned to be added alongside and as a counterpart to the Tiger II and Pershing. Whether those plans are still intact or not is up in the air, as those were plans of the old devs, not the current ones. I do think the IS-1 is a better counterpart to the Tiger I, though.
A short except from a dev briefing back in July of 2021: “Ultimately, the sight of a Tiger 1, Jumbo and IS-1 (and eventually the Tiger II, IS-2 and Pershing) should be rare, exciting and terrifying to the enemy, and indicate specific intentions of the Commander.”
What does the S stand for?
The S ranking in a tier list is typically regarded as standing for "superb" or "super" and is considered the highest ranking on a tier list template. Under S tier, the tier labels use a traditional A - D grading scale. Tier list labels can be customized and at times a row for "SS" will be placed above S tier.
A fighting game character, fast food restaurant or any other thing ranked S in a tier list would be considered the very best, OP, elite or whatever other adjective you want to give it.
There doesn't appear to be a definitive origin story for using S as the top placements in tier lists or definition of what it actually stands for. Here are some of the top definitions and meanings for the acclaimed tier list placement.
S stands for Superb, Super, Superior, Special or Sugoi
Most frequently you will see the meaning of S in tier lists referred to as meaning superb, super, superior, or the Japanese word Sugoi or shuu.
"The word すごい (Sugoi) can be used for expressing something extraordinary meaning something like "wow" or "amazing" or "incredible" in English. It can be used in many situation." (Sugoi definition source)
S stands for "shuu" (秀), which is Japanese for "excellent".
