"Finish the job" - best advice you can give to people getting into this work. I started a small earthmoving business a few years ago and that's my attitude too. Always finish the job. You may not make any money from it in the end, but your reputation is what gets you the next job that makes up for that error. But if you burn the customer then you may not get that next job. Word of mouth is a powerful thing - negative and positive!
Springs!! It’s always a good idea to write in contingencies into quotes / contracts to cover unforeseen issues that arise during excavation or installation. All the contracts I do anymore have a rock and water clause to cover exactly what your dealing with now. Communication with the property owner is key with a signed change order to cover the cost 💲! Remember We’re in business too make money and we can’t predict what we will find on site. Got to cover your butt so we’re not losing money and out of business.
Thanks Todd for talking us thru how to get across the crater left by that grandfather stump. Glad you didn’t get the 309 hard stuck. I’m still impressed how much strength the boom has to pull you along provided you have strong enough dirt to grab onto. Hope you bid that job right - to include the surprise that you got when you ran into those springs.
SPRING'S, now Todd that's 1 muddy mess and I love it, I was told by a wise ole man ( grandpa) if it's not a challenge it's not fun and yah won't lean nothing
Good advice as always. Rock and spring clause in the contract is a good idea. I’m in the process of starting my own small excavation business, and it’s good seeing how you work through these situations. All with a positive attitude also. Nice work!
This video was AMAZING! To watch and see how you work around the varies of issues that have come up is great to see. I just didn't realize the amount of complex situations that come up during these type of projects. Can't wait to see what is the next steps to complete. Thanks for sharing and I appreciate the information. Again, this is something I just enjoy watching as a way to relax!
This series has been great! Love the start to finish and troubleshooting. I ran into this exact problem last year as an amateur and seeing how you handle it is great!
Many times i've had to big rock fabric and rock again and fabric again in the swamps, in the south we call them 24's little bigger than your hand ;;;;;;
Suggestion: see if you can return the new audio gear you bought, then you could search for some audio gear that works better for you. The audio deficiency is subtle but it is noticeable.
No thanks your ok keeping the smell your end and the mosquitos as well. 🤗 I think it's incredible just how these springs crop up, no wonder the root ball on that tree was massive it's been been getting a steady supply of freshly filtered water. Looking forward to see what your going to be doing next with this project, is you thinking to put in French drain and tile pipe?
Hey Todd, would you be able to do a video on how you handle buried utilities? Or even just sharing your knowledge that allows you to confidently dig without worrying about hitting anything.
@@Simonsimon-fy3hq you are correct! I've used 811 whenever I've needed to dig, I do however see a lot of these channels (not necessarily this one) where it seems like they ask the customer where stuff is buried and go from there. Just curious about others and their process. Cheers!
That makes s sense. We tried a system like this in the UK but no one ever updated the information so it was useless. Of course our utilities will sell you the information you need!@@TreachourusJdogg
Been watching you for quite some time now I love how you give details of what you're doing and why you're doing it. That turned out to be one super soggy mess. Awesome job!
Hang on…. So did you put organic fill on the creek side of the road (and there is a public road culvert pipe at the end of said creek?)? Also the road base grade you pushed in from my angle looked heavily mixed with organic material aka topsoil.
I’m new to your channel and really enjoy watching your videos, but man it would be a lot easier if you numbered them through a project. I feel like I’m missing different parts when I go back and try and watch all your videos. Just a thought, keep up the good work.
Hey Todd so when you run into something like this, how do you go back to the customer? I’m guessing you do t eat the cost of drainage tile and rip rap do you? Or do your customers just pay you by the hour and any material? Thanks for the content!!

Those springs are pretty wild. Looking forward to seeing how well you dry it out. Looks like your plan should work well.
SPRING'S can be difficult to deal with at times but you got this under control. Awesome job so far.
Great vid Todd! Thoughts on throwing a short 4" piece of perforated drain pipe in where those springs are?
Never mind. Should have finished the vid before I commented lol
Hey Todd, would you be able to do a video on how you handle buried utilities? Or even just sharing your knowledge that allows you to confidently dig without worrying about hitting anything.
I'm a Brit, so this may be old news, but don't you guys have a "Call 811" system that will identify utilities in the area you a planning to work in?
@@Simonsimon-fy3hq you are correct! I've used 811 whenever I've needed to dig, I do however see a lot of these channels (not necessarily this one) where it seems like they ask the customer where stuff is buried and go from there. Just curious about others and their process. Cheers!

Springs. Curious do you put in a rock or spring clause in your bids. We do in Henderson county NC.
Been watching you for quite some time now I love how you give details of what you're doing and why you're doing it. That turned out to be one super soggy mess. Awesome job!

How do you like the DJI mic kit? I've been thinking about getting one and I just haven't decided between DJI and Rode

That clay when it dries out it will be hard.
How many inches of dirt do you require at a time topack down?

Time and materials is very fair on a change order
There is always a clause in a good contractor’s quotes for unforeseen extra work or materials in a quote/estimate of an excavator’s work
