Genuinely wanted to try it but it’s US only. Would love to try it but I’m in the UK, just to try it. I have a feeling I’d hate it, but I’d still love to try it.
It's ~65lbs. I managed to bring it in by myself and even managed to hang it. But I would recommend help, it's bulky making it difficult to handle the weight.
It was only on the workbench in the workshop temporarily for the video. It's currently hanging on a wall, I used a standard TV wall mount and it bolted to the back of the TV with no issues. The legs are detachable.
Do you need to connect it to a Network? Must have its own mobile data connection otherwise what's stopping people from just not connecting it to the WIFI so you don't have to see the ads?
Hated the concept but seeing it like this, it’s not as bad as I though. The secondary screen ad isn’t too intrusive, the newsfeed is somewhat helpful and like you say, smart TVs already take your data and you pay for the product!
Here because i saw this on a fb post Seems insane to me, okay cool that its free... But a night watching movies with an ad banner would be a nuisance. I could probably lean towards it, buuuuut 4k 55" tvs can be picked up pretty cheap nowadays. Doesnt seem worth it to me, the tv can take a year to get, youd have a tv by then 🤣
I saw movie ling back that resembles your channel name. And it showed a TV with ads surrounding all 4 sides of the actual programming. This is similar but less extreme.
And to think this technology probably started with the Nielsen TV box. I went down a rabbit hole of learning just before doing this video and pretty much found out if you own a device that connects to the Internet, it's probably collecting data.
@1D10CRACY true, but alot weren't as intrusive as Telly came out to be ( or sound like initially at least). I say "weren't" because of how Roku had that scummy have to agree to their TOS otherwise you can't use the TV as a TV lol.
@@durillongamingit was the way they initially talked about the camera and how you couldn't put anything like tape over it otherwise that would be breaking their TOS that made them seem sketchy.
Just signed up thanks for the heads up i don't even own a TV at the moment. I spend most my time at work and when I'm not I'm on my phone which is like a TV now so...
The trouble is Telly just isn’t taking your data, it’s everyone who shares the household, you signing the user agreement means you’re agreeing to everyone who uses the tvs data to be sold. Even then once Telly has collected more data than the tv is worth you never “own” it, it owns you. There is never a pay off amount to my understanding, so essentially there will never be a point where you are opted out of their tos after the monetary agreement has been met. Seems like they just collect your data and sell it and once you break their terms they care you 1k and still get to sell your data
So, Telly is doing exactly what every other smart TV is doing, except they openly let you know. The difference is you don't buy it, you are just borrowing it and you have added space for advertisements. If you wish to opt out, Telly will take the TV back, they even tell you that you do not need the original packaging. Seems pretty reasonable for just allowing them to collect your viewing habits. If you are concerned over data mining, you should see what google is collecting!
I reserved one two years ago when the site went live and still have had no communication from them about getting one. I won't be holding my breath. I feel like they are only sending it out to very specific demographics and areas.
The TV itself has only a few apps and none of them are currently for streaming TV service. Telly does ship with a 4K Android Streaming Dongle that plugs into an HDMI port, or you can use a streaming device that you prefer.
I signed up a month ago just got an email yeste5dayinf it'll be here anytime through dec-feb but after reading comments and fine print I think I will cancel ❌ this order
I would cut the wire to the microphone and black-tape over the camera. Otherwise, the spying is an acceptable trade-off if you have to have a TV.... In my case, when the neighborhood converted from analog to digital, there was no point getting boxes or digital TVs because we were too far from town to get digital transmissions.
If telly is playing a movie or tv show and telly can say there's 5 people viewing that movie/show on that tv, then that's 5 views telly can tell the audience measurement people (used to be nielsen via paper surveys). And the total number of views matters for advertising revenue as well as the viewership counts we can all go look up for any tv show that airs Yep.. I used to work in tv and radio audience measurement in that company lol
With the advertising screen below the sound bar, it distracts from the size of the TV making the screen seem smaller than it’s 55 inches. However, there is a serious glitch to this TV … it absolutely hates the Google dongle it sends along with the TV so you can connect to all of your favorite streaming apps. If, for any reason, you turn the TV off, and I do mean the upper TV not the lower advertising portion, it turns off the dongle so that when you turn the TV back on, you have to unplug the dongle and plug it back in and order to get it to turn on. Just quickly becomes a painful chore if you have somehow put your TV on the wall. It also has a nasty habit of providing the style sound . This means that all of the sound effects will blow your ears off, but you won’t be able to hear them say anything. I am about to get a Roku device and connect that to the TV and see if that is an easier solution to work with . But what do you expect with being a beta tester?
I'll give it to them at least they are being upfront and honest my question is can you actually switch to the different HDMI ports without the TV being connected to the internet what would happen if you were to desolder some of the unnecessary Hardware
You can but altering the tv or software in anyway will cause them to request the TV to be sent back or they will charge you 1000 dollars. Not sure how they would know but I would not chance it for it being "free".
@@fungdark69 so if they ask for a payment information upon requesting the Free TV you're saying I should use a preloaded Visa gift card I'm just saying I see stuff like this and my inner Hardware tinkerer comes out

Is it also possible to turn the bottom screen off and just watch the TV portion of the Telly?
It appears the bottom screen is on whenever the top screen is on. You can however just turn the top screen off and allow the bottom screen to stay on.
What happens if the tv isn't connected to the internet?
When you confirm all details, it says you must connect it to internet within 5 days of receiving it. I just got my confirmation so I'll get my tv soon
@@M49_Apocalypse Then when you take it back off the internet?
They will know and request the tv back and charge you $1000.
They charge you 1000$
Their terms say they may request the TV back OR charge you up to $1000.
Everyone freaking out must have never been poor. As a white boy from the hood it's hard to turn my nose up at free lol.
I think they are just worried the TV is spying on them and they don't realize most smart TVs are already collecting their data.
I will get one, ads, spying, or not, its FREE. :)
@@1D10CRACY That's easy to avoid, simply don't connect it online and treat it like a "dumb TV". I do that with my TVs, and use it as a monitor for my computers. I do agree with you though, anything "smart" is going to "spy" on people, at least this TV is upfront about it.
AI comments... daaaang xD
@@MrWirelesscaller You can't with this one, it requires connection and if you disrupt it on purpose, you get charged.
This looks like something out of the film Idiocracy
My thoughts also
Some say it took a year before they got their TV. It's it still taking that long or has the wait time improved? A year is a long time to wait. I'll probably forget I even did this in that amount of time.
it did take about a year for me. I just received mine couple days ago
It took me over a year and the only reason I received it was because they emailed me about a giveaway event, I had to drive 2 hours to it and reserve a time. The line was huge but I just walked in, showed them my reservation in the telly app and it was mine. I drove 20 minutes to the pickup warehouse from the event space, would not fit in my car so they shipped it to me for free.
A Year? I could just save up and buy a regular smart TV by that time.
I signed up 12/19/24 and just got mines today , I been seeing a lot of people saying they had to wait a year or 2
It's taken a year and I was approved today, they are shipping again.
Is the ad screen muted? That would be a deal breaker for me if not.
It is muted.
Is it only available in the US?
do I physically own the tv? am I allowed to break it if I want?
just make a cover for the bottom screen or electronically disconnect it and do the same for the motion sensor. keep the camera covered at all times
I don't believe you physically own the tv. Telly can request you send it back, but that is mainly if you do not use it or if you "hack" it in anyway.
@@fungdark69 yup, but they can also remotely disable if need be.
they also said if you try to hack it, you can brick it as it's a single processor for both screens - both run android.
They will charge you $1000. They know if it's covered or otherwise off.
@@psfilmsbob You can't turn the bottom screen off and have the top screen on but I don't think they would know if you cover it at all. A good black piece of construction paper would work great!
@@fungdark69 Nope, they know. It's all part of their TOS. It's built so they can tell if they're covered. They aren't going to give away this TV if they couldn't monitor something basic.
The tv is asking for permission to watch most moves you make. That’s fine if we agree. My issue is how good is their security. They want our info to sell to other companies to try to entice us to buy products. What if they got hacked and the bad guys was watching right along beside them and they didn’t know it? Do they have any claims of top of the line security, encryption servers or cameras? Telly is being somewhat honest but what a disaster if they got hacked and we had weird-oh’s tracking us.
It is basically the same information that Google, Roku, Spectrum and others sell to advertisers. Telly is just open and honest about selling the data and you can even ask them what they sell and who it goes too and they will happily tell you. They want you to know where it is going, what is being collected and why. That is the deal, we sell the data, we also tell you who and where it goes, and in return we will give you a free TV.
@ such a useless comment that is regurgitating what’s already been said. You didn’t even read my comment, just the first line or two. Please…..don’t even respond back.
then bad guys know what shows you like lol
i sigtned up for this originaly in may of 2023 i still have yet to get one but i am curious if it can be used as a computer screen everyething i watch is on my computer all of my shows and stuff and like 90% of its youtube
Yes it has hdmi ports, so it will work. But don’t get this TV go buy a cheap one at Walmart.
It has 3 HDMI ports. The top screen appears to be pretty exceptional as far as quality and clarity. I like the idea of the bottom screen configured as an information screen. And I'll also add that the sound bar is pretty good. The added screen makes the TV's physical aspect tall, keep that in mind. But overall, I like it. It's free, so you're not out much and can always send it back. As far as collecting your viewing analytics, even a cheap Walmart TV will do that. What makes Telly different is the ads on the bottom screen, for some this may be annoying.
@@MeatbrickProductions alredy signed up for it back when it was first announced in 2023 no plans to retract my reservation now the whole reason i signed up is becuase i cant even afford a cheap tv i am on SSI once i have paid rent bills for food and household supplyues i have maybe 2$ left to spare every month

How long did it take for you to receive the tv?
I think I registered about a year ago.
@1D10CRACY thanks for the info!
@@1D10CRACY That's a bit long though, I could just save $1,000 and get one from Best Buy. :(

It is funny how so many people on here are already trying to find a way around the agreement that gives the user the beta tester a free 55 inch TV
I signed up for one and I'll use it exactly as they intend, that's the trade off for being free
Wait til they find out about the $1000 penalty if found breaking the TOS
Does the ads have sound, if not I dont mind at all.
It does not have sound.
@ nice
@@1D10CRACY I am on list now. How much time did they take for your TV?
Not available in Canada
Wait. So will the ads be there if I use the tv for gaming?
Yeah... I signed up for their service A WHILE ago and never heard back from them. Wasn't even sure if they were still around
Yeah, I don't think they got any momentum until recently.
@1D10CRACY not quite sure why they wouldn't use more small time reviewers like us promote until the name is more out there. Give them a chance to start spreading their name and allow smaller reviewers to grow
I hear you. I signed up almost 2 years ago, right after it opened. I checked back about a year ago and was told that I was still on the list. I still have the app installed that they say is the only way that they can contact you to tell you that it is your time, but moved it to a second phone because I am 100% confident that is collecting information on me continuously as well. Why else would they require that. I'm still not convinced anyone is really getting these yet.
@@1D10CRACY Suppposedly they were supposed to send out most of the initial signups around Black Friday 2023, but I still haven't gotten mine yet. I gave up on it about a year ago. In January 2024 they admitted that they fell short of their goal of 500,000 by that time and had only sent out "a few thousand" and were already having to find new partners. I'm curious, when did you sign up? I have a feeling that they just abandoned people who signed up initially and started working from more recent sign ups.
@MrBluesMessiah Same. Signed up immediately. deleted the app shortly after downloading cuz I figured the same thing, and wasn't gonna do it for a TV I'll never see
How is it for gaming
Whats the total height of the tv without the stand
Do you know the specs like refresh rate and is it hdmi 2.1?
Big part of me wants to get one of these just to see how hard it is to do an i-opener
Can't get the verification to work in order to reserve one.
Been on this waitlist for 2 years, weird to see it popping up on UA-cam suddenly
I received mine a few days ago. Unfortunately it was severely damaged during the delivery. I've reached out to Telly several times, but all I'm getting are responses that they got my message. It's very frustrating. I really want to like this, but what can I do?
It's still a small company and I would guess they are probably taking advantage of the holidays.
My original set was damaged as well. They immediately sent me out a replacement and took the damaged one away.
Take pictures of the damage as well as the box it came in . They will give you a return shipping label to print out and fix to the box. FedEx will pick it up and FedEx will bring you a replacement. It was really quite painless.
do you actually own the TV or is this like a lease? When you cancelled older satellite service you had to return the "box"
That is a good question. I guess it's like a free lease? Digging through the FAQs, I found this... "What is the process for return if a user wants to opt out or upgrade and on that is there a base timeline for inclusion (If after receipt someone opts out tomorrow versus 6 mos from now versus 2 years from now as they want a newer or bigger tv) As an early adopting household that has agreed to help us improve Telly for the millions of Americans who will receive the biggest innovation in TV since color in the years to come, we are grateful for beta program members' partnership. Should anyone wish to return your Telly at any time during the public beta program they may do so in compliance with our terms and conditions."
Genuinely wanted to try it but it’s US only. Would love to try it but I’m in the UK, just to try it. I have a feeling I’d hate it, but I’d still love to try it.
So how heavy was this? It says I'll need 2 ppl to bring it in and I'm curious if that's true
Yes it's Very heavy
It's ~65lbs. I managed to bring it in by myself and even managed to hang it. But I would recommend help, it's bulky making it difficult to handle the weight.
@@1D10CRACYyou say hang it but it's on a stand? Does it have VESA?
It was only on the workbench in the workshop temporarily for the video. It's currently hanging on a wall, I used a standard TV wall mount and it bolted to the back of the TV with no issues. The legs are detachable.
@@1D10CRACY nice name btw, we are living it now.
Just curious what is the power usage/wattage?
Do you need to connect it to a Network? Must have its own mobile data connection otherwise what's stopping people from just not connecting it to the WIFI so you don't have to see the ads?
My immediate question is: will the company know if I disconnect or cover the ad screen?
There is a $1000 fine for violating the TOS.
@MrBluesMessiah Ah. Damn. Oh well, no free TV for me.
Hated the concept but seeing it like this, it’s not as bad as I though.
The secondary screen ad isn’t too intrusive, the newsfeed is somewhat helpful and like you say, smart TVs already take your data and you pay for the product!
How long does it take to get 1?
Here because i saw this on a fb post
Seems insane to me, okay cool that its free... But a night watching movies with an ad banner would be a nuisance.
I could probably lean towards it, buuuuut 4k 55" tvs can be picked up pretty cheap nowadays.
Doesnt seem worth it to me, the tv can take a year to get, youd have a tv by then 🤣

What happens if you don't connect the tv to the internet but only your fire stick/ruku

I saw movie ling back that resembles your channel name. And it showed a TV with ads surrounding all 4 sides of the actual programming. This is similar but less extreme.
I just got on the list. I wonder what the insides look like..
Would be fine as a tv for a waiting room or lobby but that weird screen at the bottom would be distracting to have if you have this at home.

I just got my confirmation that my Telly tv is ready to ship but it’s asking for my credit card information is it safe ?
The terms state if you violate them, they will ask for the TV back and if they don't receive it, they will charge you for the TV.
Does the bottom screen have inputs?
Missed my TV shipment. Now i have to wait until December 26th to get it
Damn next year?
@moji3812 no?? Got it. Works great
ive signed up like 2 or 1 year ago and i havent gotten it yet
I really dont like the precedent this creates. Very 1984.
And to think this technology probably started with the Nielsen TV box. I went down a rabbit hole of learning just before doing this video and pretty much found out if you own a device that connects to the Internet, it's probably collecting data.
The device you're watching this video from does all of this already, and you carry it around all day.
i mean their business model is pretty good, all smart tvs and stuff track you nd give you ads anyways, why not make the tv free in exchange for that
@1D10CRACY true, but alot weren't as intrusive as Telly came out to be ( or sound like initially at least).
Awesome! Mine will be delivered soon!
HOW DO YOU GET THE TV
You could Google Telly TV and find out. Or you could just use the link in the description.
Is this only available only in the US?
Yep,US only
What state are you in I signed up but still didn’t get it
Just signed up thanks for the heads up i don't even own a TV at the moment. I spend most my time at work and when I'm not I'm on my phone which is like a TV now so...
I fully plan on covering those ads lol.
I feel like they are only sending it out to very specific demographics and areas.
do they have apps for all the streaming services?
The TV itself has only a few apps and none of them are currently for streaming TV service. Telly does ship with a 4K Android Streaming Dongle that plugs into an HDMI port, or you can use a streaming device that you prefer.
This is actually really good!
How long did it take to receive yours. I signed up over 6 months ago
I did too and I'm finally getting mine today
@KimberlyM48 wow that's great I hope to hear back soon
I signed up a month ago just got an email yeste5dayinf it'll be here anytime through dec-feb but after reading comments and fine print I think I will cancel ❌ this order
I just got an email mine is on the way
Everything is slowing k!lling us with ads why, why not get a TV out the deal 🤷🏾♂️
I just reserved my spot
I would cut the wire to the microphone and black-tape over the camera. Otherwise, the spying is an acceptable trade-off if you have to have a TV.... In my case, when the neighborhood converted from analog to digital, there was no point getting boxes or digital TVs because we were too far from town to get digital transmissions.
If telly is playing a movie or tv show and telly can say there's 5 people viewing that movie/show on that tv, then that's 5 views telly can tell the audience measurement people (used to be nielsen via paper surveys). And the total number of views matters for advertising revenue as well as the viewership counts we can all go look up for any tv show that airs
Yep..
I applied for one of those TVs, but didn't get it. However, I did win a Roku TV, which I think is just as good.
@@fungdark69 so if they ask for a payment information upon requesting the Free TV you're saying I should use a preloaded Visa gift card I'm just saying I see stuff like this and my inner Hardware tinkerer comes out
Throw some 100% tint over that bottom corner and its perfect
Isn't this the tv with very strict requirements(you must spend a certain amount of time in front of it, etc.)?
I heard about this when it first came out.
The T&C is a bit gray right now. They just ask that you try to make it the main TV of your home and try to use it a few hours a week.
@@1D10CRACY it has been that gray for a while.
Not gonna lie, I signed up for this after doing a bit of research. Everything you say is completely true. If you are on the internet in any fashion all of your data is being collected and sold. The fact that they are straight up about that is cool. I don't mind a little ad on the bottom screen if the entire thing is free. Thanks for this video! Hopefully I get chosen! :)
I hate to be so skeptical, but a free TV seems too good to be true. I don't trust it.
Can’t you just put a picture or a plant or soundbar in front of the ads
