I forgot to mention a few of my thoughts at the end, so I might as well say it here. I like Maisie, she's a strong girl. She kept her chin up and believed her parents' died great deaths because "hunters live the greatest lives and die the greatest deaths". After she found out the war began with the humans, she was devastated. But she didn't blame the sea monsters for her parents' deaths. She did not seek revenge, but sought to end the war instead. In her heart, she forgave the sea monsters that took her parents. This is different compared to Captain Crow. Crow would sacrifice his ship, his crew, the hunter's code, and even his life to get revenge on the Red Bluster. Captain Crow hunted sea monsters all his life because the monsters took everything from him. The sea monsters also took everything from Maisie (her family was all she had) and yet she chose the path of forgiveness. Jacob also hunted monsters since he was a child, but his thoughts were less on revenge and more on protecting the people around him. Maisie was the first to question the war and believe that not all sea monsters are bad. Jacob needed a bit more convincing, but believed her in the end. Captain Crow refused to believe it, even though Jacob and Maisie being alive should've been proof enough. A young and open mind is more flexible to change.
