All of the Scary Pocket covers with Elise on vocals just sound soooo lovely, her breathy clean delivery is sublime, and works so well with the funky fat bass guitar, drums, and in this song of course the fabulous Koz sax solo. I literally have watched this video about 100 times already.
a lot of the singers who feature here do a lot of really big acrobatic stuff, which is all impressive, but not always what the song calls for. elise trouw sings exactly the notes that are necessary and nothing extra, and still manages to do it with tremendous style. as a keys player who likes to play a lot and have fairly intricate band arrangements that really play with the space everybody takes up in the mix, if i had to pick a scary pockets vocalist to front my band, i'd probably ask her first. she also plays drums, which is really cool
What's great about DK's solo is not just the lines he plays, but the way he structures the solo so that it builds and releases tension naturally and in perfect harmony with the structure of the song itself. That is not easy to do and takes a lot of experience and practice, but he makes it look simple.
Legend has it, if the funk is good enough, a travelling saxophonist will join your session. Always have a spare mic ready in the studio in the case of this event.
Strolled in...?? You know it's just a video.. right? Editing techniques have been around since the 1800's. And if it looks like they're all having one big happy jam-fest, it's because they've already laid down their tracks and are just lip-synching off tapes to make the vid look exuberantly spontaneous. Also, there is no Santa.

This is such a beautiful song that I listen to it several times a day. Elise is taking up my precious time. KIDDING. She is a witch who placed her vocals in the kingdom she conjured, creates feelings with colors, sings exquisitely, elegantly, she is completely unique. Hey Elise, you illuminate us with emerald! Oh, that saxophone... You are a saint and remain so
The mix is always flawless of course and the chemistry is always great with these fantastic musicians. Great to see Elise Trouw again and she always gives great performances, but Dave absolutely stole the show at the end.
When I saw Elise's and Dave's names I knew we were in for a good one! but the whole routine with Dave driving and his entrance to blow our faces off? Chef's kiss!
OMG this is off the scale. The whole band are amazing. Elise on vocals is incredible and she can play too. And the sax, wow. Amazing you guys, amazing. ❤️
Love how Dave Koz, legend that he is, doesn't stomp all over the song but nails it perfectly...I've been a DK fan for 30+ years now and will never stop striving for that sound!
I was unsure about this song without *that* baseline, but I really enjoyed the reinterpretation! It made it more of a pop song and I think that the heart of this song is a pop banger
The funk that comes out of every project that Jack Conte is part of man. This, Pomplamoose, he is so good at surrounding himself with the right people to really pull off these incredible covers. I don’t know who the creative mastermind is, or if it is a communal project. But I am so thankful that this group of musicians found each other.
This song is pure good memories to me. I hop into my car, hear my old 70s engine rumble, switch on my bluetooth radio and instantly feel the insane kick of the drums coming through the subwoofer in my back. A godlike feeling whilst cruising home over a dark highway with 130 kmh in an old car. Never gets old.
Man. This is so good. The whole bands groove is just on point, and really know how to mesh. Dave's funky increcendo is so cool he makes seem easy, even we all know what he just did there is not. And Elise's voice is just pure honey turned into sound waves.
I'm a smidgen disappointed. Kinda hard to beat such an impossibly good song in the first place. Bassline totally inaudible. 😢 their stayin alive is their best 👌 work by far. Imo.
The best outcome of thiis project is Elise's singing. An ethereal, yet strong voice, beautiful with clear articulation of the lyrics. Everything else is fairly standard fare.
Skilled musicians with cool equipment and instruments. Always tasteful and rarely over playing. I appreciate y’all . Recorded music doesn’t sound like this anym
Dave Koz is an incredible sax player, however I did not appreciate the beautiful and the super, multi-talented Elise Trouw being ignored at the end of this set as if she did not contribute to this video. Elise is an incredibly talented singer and musician as well as a beautiful women. This is a great music video!!!
Jack Conte must be the epitome of the "f*ck, I'll build it myself" concept. His pure amateurism, exploding at the end of the song, is contagious and inspiring.

The drummer is using Elise's signature sticks. Nice touch!
Jack’s face when the sax drops 😂😂
