My dad took us away from my mum for 4 years. It was very hard. At 51, I love my dad but its hard to forgive him; he doesnt understand yet the harm he caused us and the scars we still carry.
To all fathers and mothers out there: dont make your children a weapon for revenge. Children are the one suffering for life.
Believe me! That leaves a huge pain for life!!!

Powerful to see this written so well.
Judges need to recognise mind games are real and listen to children not any adults.
This is the main problem for families in a domestic abusive situation, male judges are too idiotic to the point he could possible think it was all her fault anyway? - so it does not matter too much( look at the results of many cases) example Avo's what good are these pieces of paper useless. In my opinion.

This movie is about events from my childhood.
My mother is Hannah Nyala, author of the book Point Last Seen that was made into this film. Linda Hamilton's character is my Mom. I believe her name is Rachel in the film. My character is the boy named Jon, her son.
I haven't seen this film in over 20 years. I will watch it again soon.

A very powerful movie with a good ending... Linda again proves what a great actress she is! My many thanks to all the men and women who risk their lives doing search and rescue and all of the behind the scenes people who help to it all together!!! Ladies if you are in a bad marriage or relationship do something about it don’t be abused GET OUT it is not going to get better.
Why can't men just not be assholes? It isn't difficult.
Men, if you are in an abusive marriage or relationship, get out. If that means leaving any children behind, do so, as judges will award custody to the abusive mother anyway, even if she's a drug addict to boot. If the children want to look you up later, they will, but don't expect a glorious reunion, as the mother will have had years to propagandize them and poison their minds. Accept your part in the whole scene, even being honest with the children. They'll appreciate the honesty their mother never had, but the scars she inflicted will influence their perspective of you even more than your honesty.
My cutoff used to be if the woman tried to kill me twice, until I realized that once was too much. I used to think that, as a man, I should accept physical abuse, as I could inflict far more than was received, even if I didn't retaliate. That, too, is wrong thinking. Men do not have to accept physical abuse just because we can. The same applies to death threats. Having a firearm pulled and pointed at us isn't acceptable behavior, and complaining to law enforcement or a judge will likely not be believed, particularly if you have any military or martial arts experience. Get out and don't look back, as once a woman figures out that she can get away with inappropriate behavior, it will only get worse, not ever better. If you doubt society's perspective, look at the title of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), noting that it doesn't recognize the most underreported crime in the United States of America: violence perpetrated on men by women.

GREAT movie, I raised 3 children who were the result of an abusive father and their Mom who was my childhood sweetheart. I am a United States Marine and a Law Enforcement Officer. I simply pointed out to him it just ain't worth it pursuing them. Bully's are COWARDS they thrive on terror of weaker people, even their own family. Up to the point when someone calls them out, someone that doesn't scare so easy.
The kids are grown now with families of their own, I'm still around
Thank you for being there in time. I had been abused too but I stood up after the first incident because being a coward afraid of Police, loose face, he changed to verbal abusive. I divorced him in 1996 and that was it.

Powerful. Not sure it's good for anyone who may have survived abuse, but it's a tribute to the strong women and children who have.
We survive, but then we have to figure out how to thrive despite the life long memories that will resurface from time to time. It can be done, but not without the psychological damage. I know.
I understand what you mean. My mother took us all far away from Dad. To Another county. My older brothers had to leave school to work and help mom. Dad was not able find us. After my brothers got married, they went back to school and finished. They had good careers. We all did. The sacrifices of a mother for her children cannot be measured. But the scars remain 😢
What a gem of a movie. She's been through hell and back. It's unbelievable how ignorant some judges are when it comes to protect the most vulnerable.

I thought at one point... the little girl didn't have her shoes on anymore, but when she was put into the helicopter... she had them on.
Linda Hamilton is my favorite actress. Loved this story... wasn't going to watch it, but saw she was in it. It was very emotional.

Watch her Christmas movie, free called Home for Christmas or Homecoming Christmas. She is Wonderful in that movie. Very heart touching 💗
Loved this movie. Great story with no profanity or sex scenes. Even the domestic abuse was handled as tastefully as such a subject can be.

The day my toddler learned how to open the yard gate, he followed his puppy along a trail.. Search & Rescue in the Colorado Rockies were called out. It was so frightening. He was found, safe & alive, yet had paused at the edge of a pond, where tracks were found, & also fresh mountain lion tracks were found in the area. I didn't even know in which direction he had traveled. I was right at the window doing dishes. I looked up & he was gone. We were living thirty miles down a gas line road, at 7,000 feet, with no near neighbors. His dad was abusive, & had threatened to kill me & chop me up & throw me in the burn hole he had dug for the trash. I got away from him not long after this incident. Just me & my son. He was two & a half when we left. I just put him in my pickup truck & called the police & drove away. They did not stop me. With what came after, it would be easier to change your name, right away.
I'm glad you and your son made it out alive. They do have safe homes for women and children in most of the US if you would ever need a safe place to stay. Glad you were able to change the names. Hope that you're someplace safe.

Absolutely right! And I’m a massive massive fan of Linda Hamilton, especially her late 80s TV Series “Beauty and the Beast” (thanks to Amazon, I now have the complete series on DVD) it’s the best work she’s ever done.
I’ve also met her twice at Comic Con here in the UK & she is just amazing and so lovely.
This movie is also one of the best she’s made. You also wanna see her 1995 movie “Separate Lives”, absolutely incredible performance in that!

In real life, judges who tolerate abusive men and reward them with access to their wife and children so that the abuse continues need to be held accountable. Their decisions need to be reversed for the safety of the spouse and family.

This was a really great movie, and in parts of it I was crying, because of knowing what they went through.
I'm a tracker myself and i try to help out when there are missing kids or adults around here.
But it's usually such a shoddy mess these search parties.
The police and volunteers go stomping around like a herd of elephants destroying the tracks.
Their search areas aren't realistic and too small. Information about the victim's clothes and so on is never given. If the terrain is difficult they just skip it.
So i usually start from the opposite side of wherever the crowd is and get suspicious looks.
I can understand why people want to hurry and find the missing child or it's remains but that just isn't the way to do it.
There can be important clues about the crime or disapearance being destroyed unless the search is patient and systematic.
Indeed, as the movie explains you should start with an ample perimeter search and then work your way in.
There is a lot of good information in this movie.
Wearing a decent hat like Linda does already will be helpful in spotting tracks.

I have never seen a movie like this. It was incredible. I can't believe the judge allowed the children to go with the father. The legal system is not as good as it should be.

Unfortunately all too often judges do let children go to parents who only use them to get at their significant other! The parents who have the child’s best interest often are treated as the “bad one” there is no easy fix to relationship problems unfortunately!!!

I'd have to say the is my favorite one when her in it plus the fact it's based on a true story makes it a bit sadder. Too bad that abuse isn't taken seriously in this country and so many others. There should be stricter laws, severe punishment for the offenders, and more protection for the ones being abused.

At first, I had experienced sad tears, when the kids were thought to be dead, and then, happy tears, when the kids were still alive, and joined together with their Mom!! Excellent movie... The same shit happens here in Australia regarding sociopathic, narcissist ex's tormenting women especially, who then struggle to get a fair hearing... The behaviour of the husband in this story, must be recognised by the law in any civilized society, as a criminal offence, with appropriate consequences...

So I want to say that when I was young. Some where in my 20s. I remember a couple men that wanted to control me by threats and I knew beatings were comming. I left after the first time. Those boyfriends didn't realize that I was from a family that fought each other with great vitality. My mother taught me, never let the man get the upper hand. She used to stay a little longer. But I'd get out right away. Been single since I was 25. I'm 65 now. Can't say I'm happy about it. But to happy to mess it up. !!!
Whoever wrote this script did a terribile job on the mother's reaction in the beginning. God Lord,any mother would be hysterical with worry over her child missing !!!
An intense storyline that highlights, the power of human spirit to survive under the most extreme situations. Nice to see Linda Hamilton is still acting, being that she's had her own health issues to contend with. Always good to read a comment from someone who's followed those tracks, to show even professionals make mistakes, which doesn't help the cause.

I thought that this was a very good film. Linda Hamilton plays a brave woman who devotes her life to finding people lost in the desert, all the time missing her own abducted children, and thinking that she may never see them again. A true story with a happy ending.
This was an excellent movie ! It blended the torture of domestic abuse with an almost lost young girl in the desert....What a sensitive contrast of ALMOST losses but in such a different way. Her ex was a monster, but the desert can show a different way to lose and be brutal, too ! Loved this movie....Thank you for sharing :)

This was my afternoon movie. I watched it with 'Chips Ahoy' - our newly adopted cat who was a surrender, 6 years old, 20lbs of marshmallow, and gentle as a butterfly. We agree that this movie was excellent!
