- Stargate fan favorite actor Tony Amendola sits down with "Dial the Gate" to reminisce about his first appearance on STARGATE SG-1, in the first season episode "Bloodlines." Tony shares hilarious memories about everything from the costume and his golden First Prime forehead tattoo to meeting the cast ... and accidentally snubbing series star Richard Dean Anderson!
This is a clip from our hour-long conversion with Tony last weekend on "Dial the Gate." Watch the full interview here: • 002: Tony Amendola, "B...

THANKS for watching! Last week David also talked with Stargate writer and executive producer Joseph Mallozzi. Among many other topics, they discussed whether the writers ever planned to make the Stargate public. Watch here: ua-cam.com/video/I3Jj8QZgj9Y/v-deo.html
Apologies to whomever posted about an actor recently passing away (I hit the wrong button and deleted your comment). You might be remembering the great Carmen Argenziano, who played Jacob Carter on the show.
I hope all these interviews and canceling the stargate online site means something is in the works. Almost seems like they are all trying to build up interest in stargate.
How old is this interview because this guy hasn't aged a day
@@dosmastrify Just a week and a half ago! Good genes, I guess.
@@GateWorldDotNet he was great as Kagame too, hope he keeps getting roles which show his skill
What the literal crap, this guy looks better than he did 20 years ago... Jaffa is confirmed.
He does not look a day over 132 years old.
Symbiote's mate, symbiote's
It's called makeup.
@@Thornbloom Ka kek!
lmao
Who didn’t like Master Bra’Tac? He was the best! “Hammond of Texas”’ is missed too!
He is dearly missed, indeed
Absolutely. My late wife adored both of them and we were both a little heartbroken when Don passed. He played General Hammond as a fabulous leader ... stern but loyal and compassionate to his people, personally brave and wise.
Master Bra’Tac had such gravitas and confidence as played by Tony - you really believed that the venerable Jaffa could still kick ass with the young bucks but his experience and 'centredness' spread courage and steadied nerves whenever he took the field. And whenever he came on screen my wife would hail him with a welcoming "Bra'tac!", a bow of her head and double 'rock horns' :chuckles in fond memory:.
Yes,God bless Don Davis!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@dallassukerkin6878 Sorry about your wife dude
@@JonathanFlexx Thank you, Felix. Most kind of you to say :bows head:.
Serious things below so if readers don't want real world tragedy injecting into a happy fan-thread about a great character, stop reading at this point.
Losing your spouse to cancer so relatively young (she was just turned 42) does rather shatter you as a person but, as with anything hard, you have only two choices, give up or get up.
As a somewhat cautious hint of hope for anyone going through something similar, it took me five or six years of fulfilling my death-bed promise to my wife that I would not 'give up' but I have finally started to 'get up'. A great help in the first year was the bereaved spouse forums on the Macmillan Cancer Support site.
Not to say that the pain is gone, but you get more used to bearing it. Watching Stargate always brings things back to the surface tho', as we used to watch it pretty much every day in some form or other - and seeing Don or Tony or Richard ever sparks the memories and emotions afresh. But Stargate is too wonderful to leave ...
His best line is when he first sees Elizabeth Weir and he asks if Hammond of Texas has fallen in battle. Pure gold!
He had some pearler that’s for sure...
When the clan of female Jaffa is staying at the base when jack is the general was brilliant...when he is all smiles an calls him “o’neill of Minnesota”
Jack calls him on his “sweet talking”
And the wedding rehearsal going poorly, he lifts the chalice with the wine to drink it and mutters “I see now why one must rehearse these things”
I also love the gesture he'd make whenever referring to "Hammond of Texas" holding his hand just above his head to indicate his baldness.
He was one of the best characters in a show full of great characters. Until his introduction the Jaffa were not fleshed out enough or easy to sympathize with. It was his first episode that really completed Teal'c as a likable believable character.
I liked that scene but the one scene that was better was when he was trying to convince O’Neill to let them have Ra’ac’s wedding in the SGC so he calls him O’Neill of Minnesota and O’Neill called him on his bs, lol
Thanks to Bra’tac, no matter what role I see the late Don Davis in, wether it’s in the X-Files or Twin Peaks, he’ll always be Hammond Of Texas to me.
I rewatched the pilot of Psych the other day which had Don S. Davis in it and all I could think of was General Hammond yelling at Shaun and Gus for driving a golf ball into the gate.
@@gunnaryoung Your head canon is fun!
I'm currently rewatching Twin Peaks and having the same thing happen. Though his cameo in ConAir is so different, at least for me.
@@Coolman13355 I kept thinking of ConAir "So, THIS is what Hammond does in his down time."
@@celiashen5490 you know, we know Hammond had grandkids, but we never met wife and kids.
O'Neill: Well we will just have to cross that bridge when we come to it.
Bra'tac: No the bridge is to well guarded.
That had me laughing so hard first time i saw the episode with Bra'tac and also Jack saying sorry for knocking the 130+ years old on his butt.
“You’re over 100 years old!?”
(Knocks jack to the ground)
“133”
“You must work out...”
My favorite quote is between this and "things will indeed calm up"
@@lextheap1638 "He means that things will escalate, of course."
I met Tony at a GateCon in Vancouver and I can attest that he is the most cheerful, gracious soul as was Don Davis who gave me 5 of the most genuine and intense hugs of my life. 2 truly wonderful human beings.❤️
If anything, master Bra’tac looks younger now!
I'm really glad they developed Bra'tac into a more of a regular character, I liked him the moment I saw him in the show, so glad toward the end they put him and Teal'c in alot of episodes together. I wouldn't mind seeing a direct to DVD, movie featuring the Jaffa point of view with Bratac
After having Patrick Stewart stomp on my heart, seeing Tony clearly still have so much love for the show, Bra'tac, and the fans was very much what I needed.
Thank you.
What happened with patrick stewart?
I thought it was great how he played the character like a reject of the royal Shakespeare company. It just really made him more likeable.
I met Tony Amendola years ago at Collectormania Milton Keynes. He is such a humble, sweet person.
He's so young at heart! Bra'tac indeed is immortal! :)
I normally listen to youtube videos at 2x. Respect for Bra'tac had me listen 1x normal speed. Ja'fa Kree!
they must've left the goa'uld in him. He hasn't aged a day :D It brings back so many good memories seeing him, thank you for the interview
"I guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it"
-O'niell: "I don't think that particular cliche works here" >.>
yea Amendola really played this character well; his fighting ability with the staff was quite impressive on top of his acting chops, and he made the Jaffa struggle with ethics believable. One of my favorite moments with him is the episode where Tealc gets brainwashed by Apophis, and is faking being better. He manages to fool everyone at the SGC, but they bring in Bratac to make sure, and they make eye contact and he knows immediately... HE IS DECEIVING YOU!!
As a not native English person that idiom was the first one I ever knew of because I watched Stargate in English back in the day to better learn the language
Helped me a lot and have already watched through the entire show (and Atlantis) in English 3 times over
@@Kronos327: "You are Hammond of Texas?"
@@Kez_DXX *gestures above his head*😂
Been watching again lately. And I LOVE his head-pat "tauri salute"
It's amazing that he hasn't aged a day and is a very happy and congenial guy! I remember seeing him in "Dexter" as a bad guy and couldn't get it out of my head that Bra'tac went bad.😁
This is probably one of the best interviews I've ever seen when the interviewee stays on-topic and is genuinely interested in the interview. He reminded me of John Rhys-Davies' interviews on "The Lord of the Rings" movies and he spoke just as passionately with his experiences.👏
You hit a homerun with this one David, great job.😉👍
Whenever i see Tony in any other Tv-show or movie i got " It's Master Bra'tac!" I do wish we had another Stargate series
Tony Amendola is perfect for EVERY role is he is cast in.
Tek ma tae, Master Bra Tac
he looks exactly like he did in the show lol.... Bra'tac is definitely one of my favorite guest characters and Tony Amendola did a really great job with him! His and Christopher judge's acting imo is really what brought the Jaffa to life and set the tone in the series for them. I feel like a lot of the time there is a disconnect in between the writers and actors as to what a certain sy-fi race should be like it.
Doesn't look a day over 120. Tretonin works!
Tony is a great actor and one of my favorite characters on SG1. Everything I’ve ever seen him in he was good.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I love it when actors are enthusiastic about the beloved roles they've played. Fans truly appreciate it.
I had the absolute privilege of working with Tony, very briefly, some years back, doing photography in the "get your photo with the stars!" things at a scifi convention. I worked that convention for a number of years, and probably worked with a good three dozen (or more) stars, and Tony was one of the most -- if not the most -- memorable experiences I had there. He was kind, humble, enthusiastic, and genuinely cared about the people who had come to the convention to see him. We talked a good bit, and he talked about things like how he would gently squeeze the shoulder of the fans he was getting pictures with, to make the experience a bit more human and thus get people to relax, so they'd get better pictures as a result.
Over my time working that convention, I learned that there's basically two kinds of stars I worked with: The stars that thought the fans were the privileged ones for being allowed to be in their presence, and the stars that felt *they* were the privileged ones because there were even fans that wanted to come see them. Tony is literally the embodiment of the latter of those groups. He is one of those people that I will always think back to when I need to be reminded that there are good people (and Jaffa) still in the world, and I'm grateful for that.
So nice to see Tony Amendola looking great !
Tony Amendola is always delightful on-screen (or audio track when he does VO). Bra'tac was by far my favorite recurring character on SG-1. Tony Amendola is to SG-1 the way Andy Robinson was with DS9... at least to me.
As far as I am concerned every role in this series was casted to near perfection.
That's why it lasted for 10 seasons.
Tony you were such a joy for me to watch! I've grown up with the show, and you were one of my favorite characters. Thank you so much for your effort, its given me years of enjoyment!
I love Tony! Great guy and really enjoy watching him even in other shows.
I actually wish we could have explored bra tac's storyline more than was done. Tony was great and the character was very interesting. Thank you gateworld and tony for the interview
Thanks for watching!
HAMMOND FROM TEXAS.....
THANKS 🙏🏻 FOR THE MEMORIES
Sharing Stargate with my kids for the first time from the beginning. They LOVE Bra'tac. He is one of their favorites.
Netflix will give you a boost my friend! I'm Rewatching it now, because I'm sure I missed a few episodes when I was younger and it was on tv.
Tony was great on Stargate SG1, great actor, he added so much to the continuity and action scenes. For an older guy he's in great shape!! I re-watch Stargate SG1 from the beginning to the end every few months, can't get enough of the show. I pray Brad Wright is able to sell the new Stargate to Amazon who just bought the floundering MGM, I think they'd be nuts not to go for it. Stargate has a mammoth fan base who are dying to see the show revived.
Master Bra'tac is my absolute favorite recurring character ever, does not matter the show, nobody comes close, for me.
I loved Bra'tac so much! He brought so much history and lore to the jaffa nation
what a great guy , great actor and great character.
Such a nice guy! And thank you for the great interview
I don't think I've ever seen him play a character that does not have an accent of some kind, so this is the first time I am hearing his true voice.
YOU WERE BORN FOR THAT CHARACTER, AND CAN BE IN THE FRANCHISE FOR GENERATIONS.LOL
He was such an amazing character, he's such a nice guy, and he looks incredible. All hail Master Bra'tac
Favorite Bra'Tac quote "Your shuttle are a formable craft".
He was one of my favorite characters in the series and his portrayal was indeed perfect!
I just realized that Tony Amendola is the perfect actor to play George Carlin if they ever do a movie about him.
“Talk to me in one hundred years.”
“Indeed I will, old friend.”
😢
Bra'tac has some of the most hilarious quotes in the entire series. Some from season 1:
O'Neill: Well, we'll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it.
Bra'tac: No. The bridge is too well guarded.
O'Neill: No, actually there, I was using a cliché that...
O'Neill: All right, here's the plan.
Bra'tac: You will do as I say.
O'Neill: Right.
Great character. I always enjoyed his screen time.
When we learned his name, we saw him everywhere! There's Tony!!😁🌟
Dude hasn't aged a DAY since his first appearance in Stargate
It's my Gould symbiote you Tau'ri dog.
Amaizing thanks! Could listen and watch these stories for hours and hours :) the best tv show franchise forever!
Also Tony havent aged a day from the bratac days :)
I looked up Tony's filmography on IMDB to see what movie he'd be working on before getting cast on Stargate SG-1, and I have to say, Tony must be one of the hardest working actors on television.
Was on Stargate and on Continuum, where Tony played Kagame. He's in everything shot in Vancouver. One of the best local actors. A seasoned professional.
Indeed he was💙
Tony played Master Bra’Tac so well. Bra’Tac was a stalwart character needed as part of the Stargate series. I've been in hospital for a few weeks. After a decade I have watched all of SG-1 again, picking up on episodes I never saw or remembered. I'm now up to Atlantis Season 3. Like Startrek, Stargate, and Firefly, I've been hooked since the late '60s. But I've never taken to any Starwars movie (boring)
WHO GAVE THIS A THUMBS DOWN??, APOPHIS?
klorel probably apophis was eaten by the replicators
Shol'va!!!
Indeed.
They are not true fans.
Apophis, his sun and his queen
My theory is that some douchebags thumb down every video for no reason whatsoever. They’re toddlers in adult suits.
Simply one of *the* most iconic actors in the sci-fi series world.
Master Brae'tac was fantastic. Always. And would love to see what else Tony Amendola has done.
Great actor, spot on for his character
He hasn't aged a bit. He looks the same as he did 15 years ago!
I Love Tony, he’s awesome!
SG1 is so perfectly cast with everyone, especially Tony, Christopher Judge, Amanda Tapping
And Jacob and Hammond...May they both rest in oma desalas embrace
Bra'tac wouldn't have been Bra'tac if it wasn't Tony Amendola. He ABSOLUTELY nailed it and every time I see him my heart goes warm and while he's in so many other things and I see him in pictures, the fondest is always Bra'tac. I want him to be my stand in grandpa.
I hope Stargate comes back i loved all the shows
he could literally play the character now and he would be even more convincing
Really admire his performance and story, great actor
Loved his work in Stargate and in Fallen Empire. Eno Cordova had an awesome light saber.
He's still very handsome! I really liked him through the whole series.
One of my favorite characters! What a sweet man!
I went and checked the date that vid was published cuz man he looks good !
I miss ole Master Bra'tac....Would not want to cross that Jaffa warrior.
Master Jaffa Warrior
One of my favorites! I liked them all but definitely one of the ones I enjoyed seeing in episodes more than others. I don't even think he has aged at all since his last appearance on Stargate lol. I'll have to see what else he's been in lately.
lmao so weird to hear his accent after all these years hearing his Bra'tac voice
Master Bra'tac was one of my top favorite recurring characters. He was like the grandfather who could love, protect, and simultaneously kicked your butt into the dirt. His character was just pure gold. The first time I saw Bra'tac gesture to his head and say "Hammond of Texas," I cackled so hard.
I loved Bra'tac. He was kind of like Teal'c's Obi Wan Kenobi or Master Yoda. And I'm so glad he survived through the end of the series and they didn't kill him off.
this man has been a great master across two universes. Master Bra'tac and Master Cordova
Stargate SG-1, Contunuum as always a revolutionary! Most importantly I will die free!!!!!!
I've been a fan since The Mask of Zorro. There was a scene at the beginning of the movie opposite Stuart Wilson where Tony asked, "Who are these men that you would risk your life to have them killed?" Stuart replied, "Who are they? No idea. Three peasants pulled at random from the crowd." The face that Tony made in response was the most iconic scene of the movie in which I'll never forget and it's a tribute to his acting ability.
great hosting btw...so nice to have someone giving space for the guest to just talk.
"forget the polaroids" , that's pure gold
Why does he look like he hasn't aged. I wish the rest of the cast took such good care of themselves.
I think he was one of the best characters in Stargate the old wise warrior that could still kick anyone's ass.
Gran actorazo del sg1
Awesome! I know a lot of mad stargate fans, they are a bit older so don't really use youtube but I think if i tell them about this you will have a few more subs ;)
Keep the good work up!
It's not fair - Tony hasn't aged A DAY! 😂
Bro, you have to spill the deets on your skincare routine because you hardly look a day over 133 😂
It's weird to see Him so relaxed and enjoyable...he was always tense in series xD Same with Real actor when U see him when he's not playing it's weird ....you expect seriousness and calmness but he's so fun :)
Very interesting. I watch a lot of interviews and mostly come away with nothing. this interview was the high point.
Watching from Cameroon
Actually I was thinking that he looks the same or better than when he did the show. Everyone else is showing their age,
well maybe except Amanda Tapping still looks terrific. LOVED STARGATE SG1 .
He hasn't aged since SG-1....symbiotes are awesome xD
This man has not aged
They picked the right man for Bra tax. I love this guy still watch Stargate every day it’s on comet TV and I record it daily I love it love it love it.
I am also recording it off of Comet, I should have the entire series recorded in less than a month. Only 2 seasons left.
He did an amazing job 👍👍
Tony! What a legend!
"Do you have more of this 4c?"
Tony has also been voicing Archmage Khadgar in World of Warcraft since 2014.
I really miss this franchise
Simple solution...buy the dvd sets. You get 10 seasons (plus the 2 movies) of "SG-1", 5 seasons of "Atlantis", and the 2 seasons of "Universe".
@@debbie9769 I did all that , great watching during this pandemic .
He hasn’t aged at all.
