- In case you don't know, I've been writing music for an Avatar: The Last Airbender Musical on TikTok. I'm working on releasing full songs here on UA-cam and other platforms. Here's the first song!
"In the Clouds" takes place at the beginning of the show when Aang is flying on Appa with Katara and Sokka. Despite ignoring his responsibilities as the Avatar, Aang is haunted by this burden. Throughout the song, Aang repeats to himself that life is still fun even though he knows he has to save the world. I'll be doing an in-depth breakdown of "In the Clouds" on Patreon analyzing and explaining the lyrics, instruments, motifs, and more!

I'm seeing a reprise could happen after Ba Sing Se falls when Katara is healing Aang and she sings a sadder version about how the world down there have violence and betrayal but in the clouds, they can be free from all that

This song is actually really sad because katara is trying to tell aang that his family is dead and to not get his hopes up but cannot bring herself to rain on his optimism because she secretly wants him to be right, she wants to escape the burden of her role as a mother figure and go into the clouds. The clouds represent escapism from the harsh reality. This moment is sad because Aang has not seen the horrors of war in the same way Katara and Sokka have and we know that soon this will change.

i was sobbing the whole time listening to this. you have no idea how much this means to me. i’ve felt like a completely different person since school ended. my last day of school was supposed to be my second show of our school musical, but we never got that. you’re combining two of the very few things that make me happy anymore. thank you.
This pictures very well how Aang and Katara's relationship works: they loved each other basically at first sight, but Aang was too kiddish and carefree to prove himself as capable of caring for her, and Katara was too somber and traumatised to be honest to herself about her feelings and tried very hard to convince herself her love was motherly or sisterly, until 'The Fortuneteller' forced her to reconsider; but from the very beginning, each one had exactly the other sought: Katara had the hope and maturity Aang needed, and Aang had the joy and innocence Katara had lost. The official Avatar channel says Aang won Katara's heart at the moment he stopped the volcano, but I disagree -- that was when she *realised* it; in my opinion the moment he actually won her over was when they penguin-sledded -- at that moment Katara's childhood was restituted.
I love this so much, it shows Aang’s optimism along with Katara’s motherly nature to protect Aang from the truth

aang and Katara really are soulmates, they fit each other so well with katara serious and responsible most of the time, aang helps her relax and have fun. their relationship is so healthy, kind and true, unlike zutara (which i was briefly guilty of shipping as a kid) where they had no chemistry and wouldn’t fit each other at all.
i’m so glad aang and katara ended up together this song is perfect it shows their balance i love it!✨^ . ^

I’m fine with Katara ending up with Aang, but Zutara would’ve been an amazing ship. What do you mean no chemistry? Some of the strongest relationships come from enemies-to-lovers. In fact I believe the team said they were originally going to pair Katara and Zuko but they ended up changing paths later down the line. Zuko and Katara would work well as a power-couple. Both of them lost their mothers, have a strong sense of loyalty to those closest to them, are stubborn about reaching their goals, and have a high level of maturity. They would be able to relate and heal each other’s traumas in order to become better people.
CatCactus i agree i usually like enemy to lover relationships but katara literally hated zuko until only a few eps before the show ended, and their personalities are strong they’d get in each others faces, like it’d be toxic. aang helped katara find peace and forget about revenge. don’t get me wrong i love zuko but i think he really suits mai cuz he gets emotional really easily and mai is super calm. i love the canon ships i feel like ppl only ship zutara cuz fire and water idk

Yo i cried at the animatic version of this. I love how its musically written and how the lyrics are written to highlight the juxtaposition between aang's innocence of the genocide and Katara 's gentle attempts to ground him... this is beautiful 🥰😱😭😭😭

I don't like Zutara as a ship and I am in Kataang gang. It's...I guess I just love fluff and purity and just-
THEY'RE ADORABLE OKAY. Besides, we see their relationship develop throughout the seasons.

This gave me goosebumps. Thank You so much for making this. This honestly makes me so emotional. This really displays how much Aang was falling for Katara, while Katara is trying not to fall and mothering him. I can imagine them flying there. Sokka napping and Aang and Katara having their moment. "Aang, you know I'm your girl" whould have Aang blushing uncontrollably... oh my gosh I would LIVE for this!
When I hear this, I just imagine Sokka laying back and saying "I'm gonna nap" or somth like that and Katara and Aang begin their conversation and start to sing this. My hearttt.
Idk if it's just me but since Sokka doesn't have a part in this song, I just picture him sleeping during this number while Aang and Katara sing

I played this song for my mom and told her it reminded me of my childhood, and we both started crying. I don’t know why, but this song just represents childhood happiness and wonder, and not to get to dramatic, but has really helped me through a tough time I’m going through. You see, there’s this boy who likes me and we’re in this friend group of couples but I know in my heart I’m not ready for a first boyfriend. But, I started convincing myself to stop being baby and just go through with it. This song came into my feed, and reminded me that childhood and being myself still exists. That you for that.

This sounds like it could be from a real episode. I love that it has a similar theme as "View from Up Here" from Tangled which also is about a carefree spirit who feels like they are trapped in a destiny that might consume their life.
