I am currently living and working at the South Pole Station through the United States Antarctic Program. I am not down here as a filmmaker or photographer, but instead work in the Housing and Dining department. All of these videos are being made during my free time and not during working hours. We are very busy down here keeping the station running at maximum efficiency, but I have managed to find some free time to make these short movies!
Memphis REPRESENT!!!
Even though I'm late to the party just discovering your channel now, I absolutely devour these videos and it makes me want to work hard to be able to experience something like that.
Thank you for sharing so much of your life with us thousands (EDIT: hopefully hundreds of thousands at some point) of strangers!
I just wanted to thank you for your videos. As we have been forced to do online learning because of Covid-19, I have been combing through your videos to use to engage my students in their 5th grade science unit on Antarctica. Your channel has been a blessing to find. Thank you!
Oh amazing!! That’s so cool to hear!! Thank you so much ☺️ I hope they’re helpful! And if you have any questions about anything, feel free to reach out by email! goneventuring@gmail.com!
Me, who lives in a really cold place: this looks familiar!
I usually put on me: cotton tights (synthetic materials sting after a long wear), leggings, cotton shirt, wool socks, sweater with a neck, wadded pants, shoes made out of deer leg fur (idk what it's called in english), scarf for face, additional scarf for neck (if needed), fur hat and finally warm jacket. Also gloves with no individual fingers, you can put inside metal things (coins, keys) to keep it warm longer.
i worked the ramp at MSP, -50 winters, with windchill.. It hurt to just breath!!! Unless you experience that cold, you have no idea how cold it really is.. your home freezer is a tropical paradise, compared to that temp...
It didn't matter what I wore, base layer was hot chili expedition weight poly, company uniform shirt then a pull over fleece, then a parka and a Heavyweight Balaclava, legs, thinner poly full length under garment, company uniform pants, insulated, water/ and wind proof pants, and still felt like I was wearing a nothing but a speedo, when I stepped outside... you're a hardy bunch to do what you do!!
what do people with perscription glasses do to prevent fogging?
Awesome video!!!!!! Planning on going to Antarctica in a few years and your video on what people wear was great! Love how you included other peoples suggestions depending on their job!
Thank you so much!! It’s funny to look back at this one because it’s my first proper UA-cam video I ever made 😂
I’m glad it was helpful though!! You will love it there so much!!
I love these videos! i'm writing a story that takes place in Antarctica and these videos have been extremely helpful!
Awesome!!
Thank you so much!!
i loved the video
Thank you so much!
Good info, cheers!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊
Do you do anything extra for the feet or hands?
What gloves do you wear
Are your bedrooms warm enough at night when its 30 below?
Hey, thanks for the info. Is the standard parka Canada Goose? And explain the Antarctic logo vs the Canada Goose logo. Thanks !
Hopefully the don’t have a problem with Canada Gooses and they’ve marinated on it.
Really like your work, young dude. Keep it up. Let me know you do Patreon…
Thanks for the video great tips. What type of goggles Do y’all wear in the winter?
Of course! Thank you!
Some people wore goggles with clear lenses since it’s dark out. However, I personally didn’t wear any. I just pulled up my neck gaiter all the way up to my eyes and basically made just a little crack to look through between the gaiter and my hat. I found that the goggles were hopeless and just fogged up all the time. Haha.
Thanks for the reply! Makes sense with how little precipitation there is there.
No worries! Happy to answer! But yeah. There’s practically none!
Would love to watch this without the background music so I could just learn what you do at the pole.
Fair enough! Sorry about that! It's one of my very first videos so the music isn't exactly balanced well. Sorry!!
Video about wildlife regulations and how penguins can become an issue please.
Ooh that's a good idea! As of now everything coming out is more active and showing different stuff, but I might do more of a "talking" video eventually. I was actually thinking of doing some sort of Q&A eventually, but I need enough of a following for that :P
@Noobz Threefortyseven Well I don't think the internet is good enough down here for a live feed, so instead I would ask for questions on IG/Twitter/Fb/etc, and then pick some of the most interesting or most asked questions. I plan on doing it this time while I'm down here!
SPIFF??
Any of you hear of "bunny Boots"?
Yeah! We still have them! Just didn’t show them in this video! They have like three different types of boots they give out now, depending on your job.
background music too loud
Why don't to do daily videos that would be interesting
I sweat from literally everything so I would 100% die...
