    This little dust collector that you have placed on your 46-460 is awesome. Very nicely done. Loving it!!!!

    Nice setup! I'd have to get used to a shield covering the work, but it sure does pickup a lot of the chips.

    That is clever! I wish I had one when I was turning pens! Especially those acrylics.... :)

    Okay. So far so good. What do you do when you need to get at the blank with sandpaper?

    I came here for lathe dust/chip collection ideas/hacks, and left with that.....but also an extreme jealousy of how sharp your gouge is. HAHA. I guess that's the difference between a real quality tool and the junk HSS ones I use. Nice job man, I like.

    I wonder if you wipe down the plexi with a dryer sheet it may prevent dust from sticking due to static. Nice dust hood btw.

    Hi Dema - good job ;) question - what is suck pressure or speed or efficiency of your dust collector ? I'm thinking about to buy such collector and just wonder is 50l/s ok for it. All the best ;)

    That is very cool, should probably add foam inserts at the bottom and side holes. The less places that air can come into the hose the better it should draw dust off the work space.

    • @DemasShopforEverything
      @DemasShopforEverything  9 років тому

      MsSomeonenew I thought about that, but fast cap has this new brush thing that may work better. havnt tried it yet

    Need to build something like that if I ever get the main shop going again. That's where the lathe is... buried :p

    very nice stuff.
    I think you need a bigger hood, though. There's still some chips escaping your dust collector.
    Oh , and the remote thing is awesome.!!

    Here's another simple dust remover. Find a Jenn Aire downdraft ventilator and duct it to your lathe just like that. Then place a box under your lathe to catch much of the shavings. There is very little fine dust escapes the powerful Jenn Aire squirrel cage ventilator, however you either need to screen it or clean the squirrel cage once in a while because it will suck your sandpaper and shavings also. I set mine up with a single screw to remove the ducting in order to access the squirrel cage. Very simple with no restrictive chunks of wood in the way when you go to hollow out your bowls. Very little noise too.

    Dema I have a Nova Comet and I want a dust cover that can be adjusted to use with a 3 wheel polishing rig. Any recommendations/suggestions?

    Is this connected to your harbor freight dc? The hose looks larger than 4 inches?

    Your video certainly shows that your collecting a lot of the dust. And it doesn't look very hard to make - but where does the curved plexiglass/acrylic come from? It also looks as if it would get in the way making bowels?

    • @DemasShopforEverything
      @DemasShopforEverything  Рік тому

      Yeah it’s not 100% but it does best when sanding. The curved plexus was heater in an over and molded over a curved mold

    Great video, Dema. I saw this and used it as an idea for the one I just made for myself. If you can plug the area under your tool rest with some foam or something else to block the airflow while you are turning, you'll get more airflow across the top of the spindle and should be able to get a lot higher capture percentage. It all boils down to air velocity at the tool-workpiece contact point. More velocity will allow it to catch more dust.
    Below is a vid I just made of me testing out my cobbled together hood. This is only like my second youtube video, ever. Just learning the process, no narration, etc.

    Nice Video clip! Apologies for chiming in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried - Antonello Astonishing Woodwork Takeover (Sure I saw it on Google)? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my buddy after a lifetime of fighting built the most amazing woodwork project with it
