  • Woodturners know that dust collection is challenge when working with a lathe. The Dust Right® Lathe Dust Collection System includes several tools to help improve your lathe's dust collection. The centerpiece of the system is a C-shaped ''dust scoop,'' which wraps around spindle turnings to catch dust right at the source. Add to that a highly adjustable solid steel boom arm support system, a flex-form hose to connect to your dust collection system, and a chip deflector and you have an all-in-one package that will dramatically reduce the amount of dust in the air and on the floors of your shop.

In dry climates like where I live, static is a major issue. That chip deflector can be wiped occasionally with plain old unscented static control dryer sheets to help it repel dust that the static likes to grab. I use them on my face shield and safety glasses. Cheers! Chris.

I'm glad you mentioned using static control dryer sheets. I'm definitely going to try that on the inside of my deflector shield. But I'll probably get the scented type so I can smell Spring in the air. LOL Thank you for that tip.

Hey Chris, Until you showed the sanding part of this very enlightening tool demonstration I was quite hesitant about spending the $80 for this 2-part dust collection apparatus simply because I didn't want to also have to contend with wood dust from my projects clouding up the view under the deflector shield of this system. However, I was quite surprised to see that you did not have that issue, so I'm going to give the whole kit a shot. Thank you for the thorough review of this set up.

Why not make these with a 4 inch hose connection to the scoop and include an adapter for 2.5 inch vacs? That 2.5 connector chokes down the air flow from a decent dust collector. Going the other way wouldn’t hurt those with the 2.5 inch shop vacs.

I concur. Very good point if Rockler wants professional turners to consider what otherwise might be only considered an infrequent using hobbyist's dust collection setup.
