    What i liked about this movie was that even though theyre only voices, i had a perfect image of where each character was whilst talking to Ivan. This is a good movie.

      Yes, it painted the picture of other characters in your mind. Made you picture how it was like back at his house, with his wife being devastated, and him not there to watch the football match with his kids.

      InfiniteVoid : I totally get that. That old line, about BBC Radio4 dramas, may be corny, but it’s still very true; “With radio, the images are better.” This was a clever mix of mental images, held together by Hardy’s awesome performance. You really did SEE what was going on with all the characters, from Donald, running around, outdoors; his boss, I pictured in a high rise office; the cold, clinical maternity ward; to his family, in their comfortable, if average home, around the TV. You SAW it all.
      That was a great comment, because you got it. I get what he means about it not be a re-watch movie, but I’m so glad they made it. Experimental movies are the cutting edge, that push the envelope. What score would you give it? I think the, “A minus,” was fair, do you? 👍

    • @ashroskell
      @ashroskell 4 роки тому

      Vito Corleone : You got a domestic drama instead. Glad you liked it, though. I was expecting, “crime,” of some kind, too. But, I’m pretty much with Chris on this one. InfiniteVoid hit the nail on the head, and I think that’s what’s the makers were going for; the mental images. Chris should have picked up on that aspect, and talked more about that. What score would you give it?

      Cant believe Tom Hardy’s range to go from The Revenant to Locke is beyond me -excellent actor in everything he does -could not guess the ending to Locke and I usually can figure out the ending to a film, but this one kept me guessing.

    I was watching the movie and as it built and built, I was like "Oh man, he's gonna die or something, like get in a car crash and leave all that jumble mess irrelevant." And then the movie ended, and immediately I thought, "Oh, that's better." Because it made it real. It didn't cheat the audience, everything that had happened in the film still counted, and Locke would still have to deal with that, while still having the rejuvenation embodied by his newborn child.

    I absolutely loved this film. So real and genuine. I praise Tom Hardy so much for this, because his acting is excellent. To be able to act so genuinely when you have a camera right in your face, takes courage and serious amazing skills. I didn't even know that he used another accent. His voice did sound more calming than what he actually was in the film. I loved his character, because he's one of those guys that is very demanding and persistant and knows how to get a job very well done. His conversations with Donal were my favorite, because it shows Locke's work ethic and organized, determined attitude towards his goals and his determination to achieve success. Locke is so persisting and demanding to the point of being hilarious, at times. I love how he's highly nervous and anxious due to his issue and yet he pulls away or goes more in depth by having these rants with his father whom he's pretending to be there. These rants give a more of an insight as to why Locke is how he is and who he believes to be. Locke also becomes very dark in these moments of outbursts with his father. I love how Tom can become very dark with his characters, yet other times very sweet or kind. The script was beautifully and genuinely written. It seemed so realistic. I would watch the film atleast once, because it's honestly brilliantly crafted I usually do not like films that are set in one place. I've only come across a few and this one is at the top of that list. ;)

    This is a very well done movie review for an extraordinary movie :) But I can watch "Locke" again and again, or rather listen to Tom Hardy's soothing voice and accent. If it's not rewatchable, as you said, it is "relistenable", don't you think ? And also, I sorta fell in love with de character. His integrity and his will to take good care of all the people affected by his choice make him a profoundly human person. Really, Catrina is VERY unreasonable there...

    I'm so glad that you liked this movie, Chris. Personally, it's gotta be my favourite movie of 2014 so far. Not to spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it yet, I'll just say its only flaw was this subplot which created the moral background for the main character (you'll know what I'm talking about). I think it was a bit... random. But that's maybe because it was not very expanded. Tom Hardy's accent was really awesome, loved it. It's interesting that you don't find "Locke" rewatchable. That's the single think I don't agree with you on. Me, I'm getting it as soon as it gets a Blu-ray release and I think I might rewatch it quite a few times.

    • @jakubgil
      @jakubgil 10 років тому +3

      ***** Yes, that's true. What I'm saying is that this subplot should've been expanded. There was too little of it in my opinion. Not enough was said in the movie concerning "the passenger".

      i just watched this movie and yes i do like well anyways
      spoiler for people soooooo
      do you think maybe locke had a double personality the little outbursts he had with the passenger or himself pretty much explained it when he said like the second or third time he talked to himself was, i think, about once he crossed over to london to see the baby "I" will be there not you or somthing like that. and the multiple times he says ill bury you with a shovel or whatever and well the ivan locke who was concrete guy, husband with wife and kids, and overall best man of England when his friend said, until... he lost all of it i think 'that' locke broke and the other lived on as he made the final call with the other lady and drove off i dont know or maybe its both him being sick,driving late, stress and drinking that "stuff" probably cough medicine well thats my 2 cents
      there might not have been enough dialogoue as you felt but maybe it was made for a reason you can say it begs the question........
      and its like 2 oclock over here so yeh :) the car drive for an 80 min movie felt like a solid 3-4 hours T.T

    • @samvisser9408
      @samvisser9408 9 років тому

      I don't think his, errr..."interactions" with the "passenger" were supposed to be too well expanded; I thought it gave Locke's character a lot more depth to just have it as this thing that he referred back to every now and then without having to spell everything out for the audience.
      Remember this is a film where we join the main character knowing nothing about his life previously and piecing together bits of information that we pick up on the way, so naturally we won't be privy to all the small details in his life. Anything we do learn is gathered up out of only partial information.

I think, while Tom Hardy will be remembered for the Venom films and being Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, I hope people remember him for his low-key amazing performances like in Locke. His demeanour, the way he carried out his dialogue, just excellent acting. Also surprised that pre-Spidey Tom Holland (in a voice role) was a part of this too.

    What I like about this movie is a simple problem we faced everyday in our life. It is up to us either to face the problems or run away. This is where I like about how he saw his father and remembering of what he did to himself and does not want to end up like his father whereas he drinks, run away from his problems, and regretted it. He decides to face the worst problem he ever made and had to make it up instead of running away. I like this part because I feel a connection between me and Ivan and reminding myself this is why I should not run away from my problems and instead, face and learn from them. Shame it is 1 1/2 hour movie. Should have it done for 2 1/2 hour.

    This reminds me of the film Sunset Limited with Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson. All shot from different angles and only set in one apartment, really makes you feel the texture of the apartment and emotional moments of the film. Also written by Cormac MaCarthy. Hopefully I'll be inside a car for 90 minutes with Tom Hardy and feel the same emotional tension given by solely by dialogue.

    A24 keeps pumpin out good movies! I love Tom Hardy as an actor, and he drove this movie (pun intended). Also, all of the conversations were done in real time over the phone with Hardy in the car and the other actors in a hotel room.

    The ending was so anticlimactic.. the movie up till that point? Was simply phenomenal.. extraordinary acting, even the voice actors; I swore I can see them & their surroundings in such detail. Almost like reservoir dogs, I swear I saw the robbery, I promise I thought I saw the robbery after watching the movie- same here, you’ll swear you’ve seen everything in detail. Great movie, anticlimactic ending.

    I frickin' love this movie. The movie's constraints really help to tighten up the script, and the movie's focus makes it relentlessly riveting. Tom Hardy's performance is the best I've seen in years. I enjoyed it just as much the 2nd and 3rd time just solely on the mood it conveys. My only substantial complaint is that the shaky cam gets violent near the end and gets me a little headachey. Overall I'd give it an A.

    this movie will make you feel like you are part of it in a way , you feel there somehow and other aspects of the movie make this a very enjoyable , relaxing and comfy film to watch(besides the bad stuff happening to the characters) whenever you feel a lilttle off or bored. For me this and the Drop are very cool movies.

    As someone who works in a callcentre I was blown away by the dialogue. People don't speak in the same way over the phone as they do face to face or in movies, movies rarely get it right, it's a subtle difference, but very immersive they put effort into this dialogue.
    I never would have thought a dialogue only movie would have me this immersed.
    Tom Hardy always has a tendency to be type casted into roles where you plays Tom Hardy, this is one of the few he seems to actually go above and beyond. Don't get me wrong, when Tom Hardy plays Tom Hardy he makes great movies, but here he shows a different set of talents.

    Remarkable film, tension amped to extraordinary levels. I had a problem with the basic plot point; however, in the interest of not ruining the film for those who have not seen it, I will not expound upon it. In this role, Hardy achieves heights I did not think possible after his role(s) in Legend, also a fabulous film. Must-see film.

    Fan theory: HE DIDN'T GO TO THE HOSPITAL. all exits leading to a hospital have a sign saying so, this exit did not. Also his right blinker is on but he turns left. Similar to the very beginning. A symbol of deception. He tells her he's coming but in reality he is not. You can see the hospital later on, if he was going there he would have taken an earlier exit. His sons voice mail changed his mind.
