Pha Hee village and places you visited in the vid were the former red zones / red routes for drug transport. Strange faces were not welcome back in the old days (40+ years) and you might be killed or just simply disappeared. Chiang Rai / Chiang Mai along the border line were the area the locals grew opium. But things had have changed, one of key reason was due to the late King Rama's 9. He introduced / encouraged the locals to grow sub-tropical agricultural products and abandon opium (eventually).
Good evening! Thank you so much Natalie and Carles for visiting Chiang Rai which is my birth-place. Wish you the safe journey and happiest stay in our province.
@@NataliesPassport : Hi, Good morning! If you are still travelling in the Northern part of Thailand, I think you shouldn't miss vistting Lamphun, too. During these "Loy Kra-tong festival" 100,000 lights lid in Lanna style paper-lanterns are beautifully hung covering the whole compound of the most famous and ancient temple in Lamphun (more than 1,300yrs old) making it the most beautiful place in Thailand during this Loy Kra-tong festival. The peak of the festival day will be on the night of Tuesday 8th, November.
@@rambodiehardwarrior749 That's amazing!!! I really wish we could go! Plus Nov 8th is Carles birthday 😍 but I have to work in Bangkok all week so I don't know how we could get there on a Tuesday night 😭😭😭
I went to Chiang Rai about 4 Times. Chiang Rai is so cool. I recommended you to go to Chiang Rai between November and January. On the road between border Thailand and Myanmar, you can see the military officer check point because many Myanmar people fled to Thailand for find a job and also some of them bring drugs into Thailand. However this road is a famous tourism , you can find many good coffee shops because in this area, they plant the good arabica coffee tree as well known in Thailand.
Chiang Rai is really cool!! I'd love to drive that road again in better conditions as I'm sure the views would be amazing 😍 in the rain and clouds it was kind of scary lol
Just watched 'Thirteen Lives' (Amazon Prime) a film about the kids rescued at Tham Luang Nang Non cave. Good to know not too far from the Golden Triangle, and hopefully it will be open next month! Do you remember the name of the car rental place?
We still need to watch that!! I'm jealous that you'll be able to see the cave after watching the show! We really wanted to see it but 🤷♀️ We ended up renting a car from พี.เอส คาร์เรนท์ (that's what it says on google maps). It was just like a tiny stand on the side of the road in the center of Chiang Rai, but the guy was SO nice and it was really easy!
Such a bummer you weren't able to go to the cave. Have you seen the Thai documentary on Netflix about it? It was so good! Hoping we'll be able to visit the caves when we are in Chiang Rai next week. 🤞
This trip was wayyy better in a car than it would’ve been on a moto!! Those mountain roads would’ve been so scary on a motorbike!! We actually wanted to spend the night on the mountain! But with the bad weather we decided just to go back to Chiang Rai 🥺 hopefully next time! 🤞

Thank you 🥰🥰🥰

So crazy how different it used to be! That's great that the king encouraged people to change what they were growing! 😍

Been to " Pai" in Mae Hongsorn yet, Natalie? Visit " Huai Nam Dang" National Park in Pai. There's a natural hot spring at the park.
No!! We really want to go to Pai, but we still haven’t been! Hopefully we’ll make it there one day - the hot springs sound amazing! 😍😍
@@NataliesPassport Don't miss out Pai. Many food stalls on " Walking Street" at nite. Many foreigners go there, Mostly Israelis...

Yessss! We’ve been here almost a year now! We live in Bangkok (I work in a school here) so all our travels are over weekends/holidays!
