Another favorite of mine. She has the most fantastic control of her voice. I am so glad that I saw and heard her in person at Carnegie Hall! She has a wonderful personality as well!
I guess to be in a masterclass with such a supreme soprano you have to have what it takes. She's a wonderful teacher. Brutally honest but she knows her stuff and then some.
Caballé probably has one of the most solid techniques among all sopranos. It could also be the reason why she was singing until her last years. RIP La Superba.
I have studied just for a year and I'm a heavy bass and I really want to be in her master class! :3 I have been in other master classes and I have sing ... Before you start singing it is horrible! hahaha you feel so nervous... But you start and :3 it starts to feel good.
tutti insegnanti parziali, compresa Lei,grandissima cantante...ma come al solito discretissima insegnamte..certe cose non si lasciano passare soprattutto il gusto e l'ascoltarsi e fermarsi se si fa orrore.
@18aaronjames She holds her master classes in September in Zaragoza, well that's where it was last year. You can apply to be an active participant i.e to sing if you have the right singing qualifications and have studied for long enough - no amateurs it is a MASTER class. Or you can apply to be a listener and watch all the fun. It is a terrific experience that I would highly recommend!!
Beautiful voice... hopefully he will get a more homogenuos sound and sing the high exactly the way he sings the middle low. At the moment high notes sound more like he´s singing "with the breath" instead of "on the breath". But a beautiful voice indeed and will be perfect for this repertoire one day. Keep on working, man!!! :)))
So I am going into my first year in college, majoring in music education and I kinda wanted to get an idea on what is considered "good teaching". I think what I appreciate about her is that Caballe wants to make it sound more natural and more "emotional". What I noticed with both this student and the soprano she was working with was that not only are they loud, but I think there were a lot of technical issues that weren't brought into consideration. You can tell that all that was wanted from them was to be heard and for it would sound beautifully forced. In other words, okay, it was beautiful, but it could be better and the dynamics would be more aligned if they used their diaphragm. I hate to say this, but I feel as though the director (obviously not Caballe) either never taught them the proper way to sing or they were taught, but it went right out the window. Even the diction as well as some of the pitch isn't accurate (I do not know the song but it just didn't exactly line up). One more thing. He should keep his head up when he sings. When he sings down at the floor, a completely different sound comes out and it sounds darker and even more forced.
Must be unbelievable for her and frustrating too, but she really wants to help. I hope theses student knew how lucky they were to be in that master class with her teaching it, and most of all inspired by being in her presence!
in the old days masters used to take people as beginners and imo the opera world was better for it ..people end up learning junk from junk teachers ..if the good teachers were out there ..then well ...they WOULD know the basics ..but the teachers are not obv out there today or we wouldn't be saying this
I don’t think they had to know all the basics but at least they all should have had the ability to listening to the key and giving the right notes that is in harmony. Nothing’s more stressful than having a student that keeps singing off key 😢
La Superba is a good teacher. She looks pretty good in this video as she must have lost a lot of weight. She is truly one of the great sopranos of this century. I agree with one of the comments below that the singer sounds more like a bass, and Il balen is a baritone aria.
So you think I might be a bass :) then check my No puede Ser aria actually in the tenor key and then you can listen to my Otello duet and many others...
Hi everyone, im confused. I tack clases for fun 😊 my teacher tell me to support toward out side and I see the maestra asking her students the exact opposite thing and it sounds so much better. can anyone explain to me what anatomically happening? what organ is she lifting?
@Orfeus80 There are some videos of just the singers, and more to upload when I have time. These are master classes and watching Montserrat teach is part of the experience. All the participants appreciated her help and constructive criticism and it's important to show that. Other videos to follow...
me too at first ..but you get used to being prodded and poked after a while tho....you will forget its happening she is trying to feel if he is doing it right ....also to guide his muscles
@@debbiejohnson2789 she is pushing ...but also feeling what he is doing ..muscle memory and the correct muscle memory is important. She isn't like shoving or hurting etc but all singing teachers usually do this to feel if you are doing it right ...also they feel your face ...like when you sing you can feel vibrations on your nose etc and she feels if its in the right place ..also if you are using the muscles in your face and throat right..people end up damaging their voices otherwise
She knew these things & more techniques that most singers didn’t know about. She credits this practice by what she learned early in her training. Read the book, Casta Diva where she discusses all that she learned from Ms. Eugenia Kemmeny.
I think this guy shouldn't sing in this tessitura, definitely not at this stage of his development. His very nice big voice could develop to a huge voice.
Somebody have taken this video without my permission. Madama Caballe put me on the floor before this aria using heavy weights on my diaphragm, but instead I used stomach muscles :) Someone here thought I might be a bass, so I told them to listen to my No puede Ser actually in the tenor key, Otello and many others...
This is a travesty to say the least. This man has a wonderful voice and she does not correct his obvious technical error on singing in the upper register. He does not lower his larynx. Instead he elevates it . I can only assume because his teacher is in the audience, she brings this up in private not to embarrass the teacher. Ian Kaye
Too much air and unorganized sound. Highs are deep in the throat, too many simple technical mistakes for an opera singer, it's quite surprising that he was elected for a master class with the primadonna.

terrible. he do it terribly... there is no singing.... he is torturing... AND SHE DOESN'T SAY USEFULL!!! COMMENTS TO THE STUDENT HOW TO CORRECT VOICE AND SING BETTER. NOTHING ABOUT BREATING... AS SHE "explains" breating I WON'T get it even if repeat it 100 times...((((
The tone difference from the diaphragm is even noticeable via recording, it’s incredible that she can notice it in an instant

Indeed!
Carlo, you are exactly right about this!
She was a very good teacher, her daughter sing good too.she put his voice to shine, great work!!!👏👏👏👏👍
but she is a terrible teacher!
@@letitsnow8518 I hope this doesn’t come across as aggressive, buy may I ask why you think she is?
Omg,what a wonderful Voice…..🥲🥲🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗😂😂😂😂😂😍😍😍😍😍👍👍✌️😘
This guy has a wonderful instrument, if and when he'll be able to control it.
La Caballe is such a great lady.
He's built like a bass. I was surprised when 'Il balen' came out. He's not ready for a masterclass with Caballe.
Senora Caballe is a strict teacher. Yet, she teaches her students well how to classically and beautifully.
Obviously she seems to be an excellent pedagogue!
Meraviglioso avere scoperto l'America, ma ancor più meraviglioso avere scoperto Montserrat Caballé R.I.P Soprano assoluto
Learning how to breath is one thing, but one must have the discipline to go and practice practice practice until one really gets it.

This baritone is killing me. I cannot bear it.
he sings not so well on technic, but has a great body and is soulful.
Jawoll.....jawoll hat Montserrat immer gesagt.....wenn es dann doch gut war!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍
What did the master say? who can translate it? Thank you!!!!
Does anyone know who he is? He’s handsome
Where was this class held?
utube just in time by John bavas
You come to my class you do as I say lol
@caltrask51 In Zaragoza.
Does anyone know the name of this aria?

Bien sûr cette chère Montserrat a raison mais elle est si drôle ! Un merveilleux moment avec cette grande "maître" !
Talk about intimidating
Montserrat looks a lot thinner. She’s such a beautiful lady still at this age.
:o But She passed

@operamusicfan yeah, much less sing one of the most difficult Verdi Baritone arias out there.
I find it so difficult to keep focused when the teacher is pushing on me physically.
She was doing g this gently and really trying to impress in him this technique. She well knew about these things!
I think she was pointing out on him physically and not pushing hard.

Wer ist der Sänger? Who is the singer?
The singer is me; however somebody have taken this video and posted without my permission.
Hallo Albert, iam a singer, too. And I know such problems. I would like to get in contact with you...
This guy only knows forte and fortissimo. Dude just yelled at us!
singing quietly is hard
@@silverkitty2503 I know, I am a musician myself. What was your point? That's why he didn't sing quietly? 🤪
what the hell is she talking about, pushing the sound up, and breathe first then push the sound up 2nd

That guy must really be tall. Maybe he is standing on a platform or a step. Can’t see his feet.

zinchel You are an idiot then!
Somebody have taken this video without my permission, but even the greatest singers don't always sing well :)
Don't let all the so called "experts" get to you.
Good technique starts with proper breathing or breathe support.
