    In this video I present how I captured and turned a real sculpture into a game ready asset using photogrammetry.
    I also have some key updates regarding to my previous photogrammetry workflow about image preprocessing for photogrammetry reconstruction
    In details I present:
    - capture using Mavic 2 Pro Drone
    - the photogrammetry reconstruction using Agisoft Metashape
    - 3 different ways for retopology in ZBrush
    - UVmapping the lowpoly model in the RizomUV
    - and finally generating the texture in the Substance Painter with the smart material I made for this purpose
    The offline version of this video which also includes the smart material I made and used in this video
    as well as the high and low poly versions of the scanned sculpture for those who wanna give it a try
    are available on my gumroad:
    gum.co/RfjWr
    For those interested getting even more into details, here is a link to my photogrammetry guide:
    gum.co/YanD
    Thanks to those who bought it already, as it really helps me to move forward with my research and creating even more content like this one.
    Feel free to follow me on Artstation: www.artstation.com/gbaran
    Hope you have found this video helpful.
    Thanks for watching.

    You're a real craftsman, sir.
    I have a burning question though: If you had wanted to create an albedo map to preserve the original surface... how would you do that? It looks like the UV-map creation process destroys your ability to do so!

    • @GrzegorzBaranArt
      @GrzegorzBaranArt  3 роки тому

      Thanks. I would bake the albedo map directly from the highpoly model. I would use a texture to transfer it. As long as UV doesnt overlap on the lowpoly you dont destroy/overwrite anything.

    bro, if you have problems with the landing in your hand you can disable the sensors with the RC button on the right side (on the side), change the knob to the sport mode (S) position and you will no longer have a snesor reading, also be careful when trying , good video in any case

    • @GrzegorzBaranArt
      @GrzegorzBaranArt  4 роки тому

      Thanks, the drone in sport mode is way more sensitive :), also have heard that sport mode turns off all sensors except the bottom one but I might be wrong.
      Regarding to the hand landing.. I just keep practicing and its getting easier every try I make, have noticed that sensors doesnt see my hand when I grab the drone behind the gimbal what makes hand landing easier. But every time I can land on a the ground I prefer to land on the ground :). Cheers!

      @@GrzegorzBaranArt in sport mode turn off all the sensors and of course it is a bit more aggressive but if you handle it with caution it is very useful for when you need to get down fast and the place is full of obstacles but you already know that a certain point down is released, you just also have to pilot feeling very safe I hope you stay well

      @@GrzegorzBaranArt On the Mavic Mini, if you put your hand under it to catch it, it immediately pulls up, but if you just hold your hand there, and keep pulling down on the joystick, it will then go ahead and override its sensor, and land in your hand. Does the Mavic 2 Pro not behave that way?

    • @GrzegorzBaranArt
      @GrzegorzBaranArt  4 роки тому

      @@dougdavis2523 I guess it does but you have to catch the drone, not just land on your hand since the drone looses stability with the rotors speed slowing down.. I mean that any wind blow can push the drone and when it happens you risk contact with propellers or crash.

    I use a simple cardboard as a lanidng pad. Once I tried to land in hand, and cut myself with propellers, drone drifted towrads me.

    • @GrzegorzBaranArt
      @GrzegorzBaranArt  2 роки тому

      After 3 years I know my drone well enough to land safetly and take off from my hand. Even in tough windy conditions. Bear in mind that the wind is really strong and the drone struggles to maintain its position I dont fly as it makes no sense for me. Anway. when I do, I take off from hand always when the drone is keept away with the wind direction so the wind cant push it backward to myself. Of course it also faces away to me. From the same reason I use inversed rule while hand landing .. so I stay with the wind so the drone aproaches always against it. Next I hover at some distance and approach the drone by myself. I dont drain batteries to none so if something is worng, I simply correct the position and repeat the landing process. With some practice it seems to be really safe but even tho, if I have any flat surface available like a flat rock, bench, asphalt, I prefer to take off and land there. In most cases I take off from them as even if small, its quite easy to adjust drone position between the take off.. while if landing can be an issue I simply use hand. Personally I bleieve that hand take off is much harder and dangerous to the hand landing.
      After I learnt how to hand take off and land, I dont cary any landing pods with myself. I used to use one for a while just to setup the gear in dirty, dusty environmet but now I use my backpack's cover for this purpose. So honestrly, I would suggest to get a bit more practice with proper drone landing and take offs and you will never ever need any landing pad solution.. and dont fly in conditions where drone isnt able to handle itself as you risk loosing the drone.

    Hi, Gregorz. Great job! Can you share mavic 2 pro barrel distortion preset for Photolab 2?

    • @GrzegorzBaranArt
      @GrzegorzBaranArt  4 роки тому +1

      In Geometry tab I used 'Auto with Dx0 Optics Module' mode in distortion settings with the intensity set to 100%, I left 'Keep Aspect Ratio' option turned off. Also turned of the 'CROP' since it cuts part of the image. I also turned 'focusing distance' and 'horizon' off.
      But these options are useful for single image based reconstruction where you need an image to look correct already. As I mentioned in the video, for photogrammetry any geometry fixes like barrel distortion are not recommended. Hope that helps :)

    • @GrzegorzBaranArt
      @GrzegorzBaranArt  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Yegor, I would not agree. I am considering to record a video to compare RC, Metashape (not Photoscan anymore) and 3DZephyr...currently I am experimenting and researching a 3DZephyr .. and planning to release a video about it pretty soon. Each photogrammetry software has its own pros and cons. Metashape after version 1.6 has changed totally for better. Its more stable, doesnt need as much resources as it used to (32GB for extreme scenes) and finally with the depth map based reconstruction results are really good. So even if RC seems to be slightly better, the difference in reconstruction quality in my opinion is not worth the price you need to pay for it. Metashape is way more cheaper. It costs 179USD and when you get it.. you can keep it forever. You get all future updates to version 1.9 for free. I can tell you that I bought it 4 years ago for something around 150USD and didnt pay a single penny to get all updates. So no subscribtion.. no bs :). SO I would encourage you to givbe it a try as every software is in constant change and moves forward. Something what is mediocre today.. might be great tomorrow.
      If I get the RC for 179USD and can keep it forever with future updates I would probably pick it :).. but now.. especially when pretty tough times are coming and you never know how long you can afford to pay tons of subscriptions.. having a piece of software you can simply use no matter what has really big value if you know what I mean.
      Thanks for the tip with the collision detection. It saved my drone a few times already.. especially during windy weather. In my case it helps a lot since its super easy lose the sense of space when you scan from distance... but I totally agree that its a pain in the 'bottom part' and there are certain cases when I would do a better job with sensors turned off.. like probably this sculpture :)
      Hope that makes sense :). Anyway, big thanks for watching my video and for your comment, very appreciated. Cheers! :D

      About collision detection - im using one trick - going above sculpture, getting close as I need, and go down to the height i need. So I get closer then collision detection will let me and can go left right without problem. (On Mavic Air, I dont know how its will work on Mavic Pro)
