“Nurse Practitioner don’t even make that much more money than a nurse”, is a common phrase I heard my colleagues say when I expressed interest in going back to school for my NP degree…in this this video I address Nurse Practitioner Salary and Is Becoming A NP Still Worth IT? from a financial standpoint…
I’m in NP school & after going to clinical in Oncology specialty I quickly saw the difference in expectations/tasks, how my body felt, & work/life balance for providers. Providers use their brain more & less physical strain. I’m disciplined & work out daily so I enjoy the NP schedule. RN life worked for me as an undisciplined person that only cared about making money, worked night shift, & worked OT. I now work out at 5am & my RN schedule is a strain on my life outside of work & not sustainable. With that being said, you made valid points & I appreciate the NP role and look forward to living life like regular folk 😅.

You made an excellent point…discipline vs. undisciplined lifestyle…when money was a priority I would do endless OT, but now health (mentally, physically, emotionally) takes precedence and my NP role, schedule, and lifestyle so far is fulfilling that…thank you so much for sharing 🫶🏾❤️🙏🏾
Very good perspective! It’s the hard on the body part for me. Bedside nursing is not what it used to be, the physical toll it’s taking on my body is too much. I can’t wait to take and pass my FNP boards.
Yes! The demands of bedside nursing has increased dramatically and even on my per diem shifts inpatient as a nurse, I feel it for sure (maybe it’s age lol)…but yes you will pass your boards with flying colors and step into your purpose very soon 🫶🏾❤️…thanks for sharing 🙏🏾
May I say that after 14 years breaking my back at the bedside and still in love with nursing, I beacme an NP and am so grateful. I work at an urgent care, 12 hour shifts so we always have 4 days a week off every other week. The independence is great and no one is looking over my shoulder. No crazy nurse supervisor and night shift. The work-life balance with 320 hours of paid PTO is just the beginning, additional sick leave, and 40 hours of professional paid leave.The salary and compensation for NP to Nurse anesthetist where I work ranges from 150 to 250K, plus a hefty compensation between 7K to 15K annually depending on your specialty. It's not about making money. When I started in Medical Oncology in the early 2000's I had 11 patients for the night shift. That is 1 RN to 11 patients. No one can pay you enough for that. We keep patients alive even if not celebrated. We cannot compare RN's and NP salaries since most RN's have to pick up shifts to make what an NP makes. Thanks, Ya'll for caring for humans.
Of course it’s worth being an NP from the financial point. You’re not having to work 60 hours a week to make the same money as a RN. Who wants to work 50-70 hours a week to make the same money. Not me. I can’t wait to finish NP school! I have a family. NPs will always have a higher base pay and we don’t gotta chase the money. They pay us for those credentials and skill! Plus we can still pick up shifts as a rn if we feel like it 😊
Yes I totally agree…I need to preserve my body and health, while still making a decent salary…and yes per diem at the bedside as RN is me now…but I’m looking to wean off of that eventually 🫶🏾🫶🏾
I watch this twice. Maybe this is my sign not to quit . I'm currently on LOA from NP school because of how discouraged I have been feeling. After watching this video, I am thinking of possibly returning, may not now, but sometime in the future
Yes I agree that it is your sign to not quit…you should definetly consider returning but when you’re mentally ready. you can start slow even if it’s one class (online or not) to start off with just to get your feet wet…thanks love ❤❤

It’s true a RN can make the same as a NP but RNs typically have to work a lot more to make that amount. I’m a nurse who has been working a lot of overtime over the last 10 years along with travel nursing and it can burn a person out.
idk about the associate degree thing. maybe it differs from state to state. i got my first job in a level 4 NICU while having my ADN and i still only have my associates years later. where i live they only require it with magnet status hospitals
This is more so from a New York perspective as I mentioned in the video, but yes you are correct there are certain states that still employ associate degree nurses, while many have phased that out.
@Coacoaishere idk that i would say "phased out" as opposed to you will be required to go back and get your BSN in "x" amount of time if you don't have it upon hire. Although I know certain positions will require your BSN off top. This country can't produce nurses fast enough to "phase out" ADN nurses.
They said they was going to get rid lpn never could nurse shortage is real they cant be picky alot people are not even going in the nursing field and most left during covid where im from the hospitals started back hiring lpn in the hospital setting again

Yes during Covid there was a global shortage of nurses so some came out of retirement to help and LPNs were sought after, but in nyc many hospitals strive for magnet status, so the shift with moving away from LPNs in those hospitals (acute care setting) was implemented. They are still hired in other care facilities however. But i would rather have as many options as possible as a nurse.
