Do you have any questions on what a solutions architect or solutions consultant does? Let me know! Also do you like the “on the go” format of this video? Let me know in the comments!
@Christine Wong I was just accepted into this position, from a business development career path, about a month ago!😄 Do you have any recommendations for courses I could take to help leverage my overall tech skills, etc? I am in the solutions consultant role/side, but I would like to move more into the Solutions architect side, which I believe might be more tech heavy?? ...versus my current responsibilities, which are sales and project manager-heavy (on the consultant side). Thank you!!!
@@marshmallowpeeps241 congratulations! The roles can be very similar depending on the company and team you’re on, but generally solutions architects are more technical! A better way to evaluate is to figure out which space you would like to be in such as cloud, AI, web, data, etc. Getting subject matter knowledge and skills will be a better approach than overall technical skills. Coding skills dominant in that area would be ideal to supplement!
thanks for this explanation theres no other videos on this outside of amazon aws. which is important for IS grads to know what careers are possible in their fields which is really helpful because some of the advise u have on youtube helped me land an offer at Big 4 as a tech risk consultant
I agree! I also wish I knew about this role too! I didn’t even know this role existed until recruiters reached out to me about it! And congratulations, I’m glad my channel helped you get that job offer!
So it sounds like your roll isn’t very technical. Would you say having project management experience in a tech consulting role would be a good prep to get into a Solutions Architect role? Also what is the difference between this and a product manager ?
It is pretty technical, more technical than my technology consulting role at Accenture actually. I’ve used SQL, work with feed files in data architecture, feed rules, and working with crawlers and Internet tools. It’s by far more technical than my past role. Solutions architects can be technical and can also not be technical. Mine just happened to be more technical than not technical as our external facing “title” to clients is technical specialist.
A product manager is very different. Their only focus is on the product. Our focus is on the customer but we do provide feedback and work with product teams for any gaps the product doesn’t support for our high priority clients.
@@ChristineWong While i work with mostly Oracle Implementations, I am in the Project Management role on these engagements, do you think this is helpful to transition to working at a tech firm working with cross functional teams to either manage products from the PM side or from your SA side? I guess my concern is, i don’t specialize in Oracle or workday or whatnot, but i have experience with software implementations, delivering & understanding client needs for the solution, & managing internal business functional teams, and engineering teams. Are these good skills to continue working on to get a role such as yours?
Project management is still very different from the actual implementation. You’ll need the hands on work to be able to be even more transferable, but I do know PMs who have transitioned to solutions architects as well as long as you show extensive knowledge in experience with executing on doing the implementation itself vs managing it. I do wear a PM hat when it comes to these implementations as well with my clients at Google.
@Officialyasirbadawi for consulting companies, it depends on the clients. And for tech, I’ve seen the spectrum. You’ll have to look at both but you can guarantee knowing with tech before starting the job while consulting firms all differ in the agreement with clients. You would have a higher chance actually traveling to the client than to the office itself.
@@ChristineWong awesome! Last question: You mentioned you had some opportunities to work remotely in the past - did they allow you to travel offshore while working remotely or is that unacceptable ?
What are the top skills which every consultants need to make money online as beginner to understand the competition of the market & stand out as unique value provider ?
It’s a bit hard to answer that because it really does depend on your target market and unique sales proposition! There are many different business models you can take but ultimately it’s up to what work you’re willing to do and the challenges you’re willing to take. You’ll have to use your best judgment and do your research on your competition and also who is your ideal client and why they would choose you.
@@mohibquadri4053 honestly UA-cam is even better. There are so many free resources of how people make money in general online. Books are very outdated and hard to enforce a lot of times.
@@ChristineWong I also thought the same but here on youtube the videos related to digital marketing, data & technological related stuff is more but my field of hvac construction industry is very less so i get confused sometimes that will those advices help me in my particular field as its a different on many levels in service based business methods..
