I lost 200 pounds from water fasting for 6 months. Then slowly added food back into my diet over time. I now eat 250g protein every day and lift weights for the last year. I've gained so much strength and muscles my friends are shocked at how small I look at still 200 lbs. I did use the fasting tool to detach from my highly process food addiction. It worked well for me. I wouldn't recommend doing this if you are already close to a healthy weight.
Detaching, they mentioned that. Actually said it was a good tool in that case near the end of the segment. He said it worked well for the athletes who were stuck on the "I must eat every two hours or my muscles will fall off thought".
That second caller truly displayed so much courage and vulnerability. What she said was heartbreaking but also inspiring. I know she's going to be fine, her strength came through the screen.
Fasting has been great for me to lose weight. I think people have to find what works best for them and their own relationship with food. There’s not one way that fits all. It helped a lot with my mindless eating at night. It’s not hard at all to get your calories and macros in your eating window. I’ve eaten more protein as well and retained my muscle while losing body fat.
Guys.. Fasting does work.. especially if you are insulin resistant (which most peeps don't know they are .) Not talking about 7 days etc.. 16-18 hours.. but do Resistance Training and High Protein at same time. Not low calorie..
100 percent agreed! Done right and combined with the right foods and amounts-- best way to live! That’s how our ancestors lived. Wish they would talk about this rather than just weight loss.
@@crispy9377 I listen to them all the time! But fasting is typically frowned upon. I don’t think it’s healthy to eat so many times a day. I know it’s not ideal for getting enough protein in, but for my genetics and what I’m prone to (diabetes, cholesterol etc) I have tie watch it. When I didn’t, I was infertile but still looked healthy. 😅
We homeschool. My 19 year old finished at 15.5 yrs old and has 3 years work experience in a blue color field and is starting his own business on the side. He's confident and secure in his person and is reliable and honest. Cheers
Yes! WOW! Genuine compassion, for sure! Plus, Sal seems to not only have a ton of experience with health and wellbeing, but he seems to be very knowledgeable in physiology. Bravo, guys! Not the first time you all put me in tears. Prayers for that young lady.
Come on guys I’ve done IF for past 12 months and resistance training for past 5 months now I’m in stage 4 fat loss with abs showing thanks to fasting - I’m not sure why you say fasting is bad.
Because they're trainers. If everybody knew that DIET is 99.9% of it, these dudes wouldn't have a business. Don't fast, eat protein and then come to us for an exercise program. Thats what they want.
I’m sending a big ❤❤❤to Lana (2nd caller hope the name is correct)❣️ For her to share the story takes a lot of courage, and it’s truly inspiring. I was very touched by it.
Former Faster here 🙋🏽♂️ Many people fast and it becomes an addiction where if you eat anything before your window you feel like you cheated. Terrible way to view the benefits of food!!!
And many people fast and have no problems adjusting their eating schedule and have found a wonderful freedom getting away from the typical overeating most people engage in. Once you step away, you quickly realize the standard 3 meals a day plus multiple snacking in between is way more food than the body requires. It's no wonder when you look around and see why most people are obese.
I've been using fasting protocols since 1978; I'm 64 and very healthy. I still fast. I don't fast and binge. I eat an insane variety of healthy foods when I eat; but I also fast. When I break my fast I'm very careful to do it right. I use fasting as a maintenance tool. I have a healthy relationship with food; I love it. But, again, for decades I've eaten the heathiest foods you can imagine, my weight is ideal, I never get sick, I have endless energy. Fasting may not be for everyone. For me, with decades of experience, it's great.
I can’t thank you guys enough for changing my life. Because of mind pump I am now 8% body fat I lost 100 lbs and I’m eating 3500 -3800 cal. God bless you guys and your families. Weight training 4 life!!
It depends on the person. 1) Are they lifting weights? 2) Are they mindful of calories? 3) Are they getting enough protein? As someone who has been doing fasting protocols for over 10 years, I've had great success. But I've also always gotten enough protein/cals in my eating window and lifted. BTW : This is purely anecdotal based on my own experience. But when I used to eat 4-5x a day, I got sick at least 2x per year. But I haven't even had a cold in 12 years since I started. I've noticed that all of you guys get sick at least 2-3x a year every year of the podcast. So fasting can offer immune system health benefits.
Yep.. well said.. Been doing what you said for 4 years, not a single cold, flu, sneeze, cough or even c19 etc.. (and no jabs taken) Prior to that, I used to get colds, flus etc all the freaking time.
I lost 18 kgs / 39 lbs doing OMAD. NEAT, with resistance training and no specific cardio was done. It worked for me - but there is no guarantee it would work for anyone else. When tracked which was rare - my intake comprised of 60% fat and 20% each from carbs and Protein. Did I lose fat and muscle - no doubt - only a DEXA would have confirmed it. That said - having less fat covering the muscle I had, made the reflection very pleasing to the eye.
Fast every week for 36-60 hours straight… have not lost muscle and don’t get sick…. High protein and try to eat clean but don’t stress If I eat at a surplus …. Way healthier than trying to have 5 Tupperware meals a day and heating them in a microwave… Whole Foods ..this type of eating will do wonders for your health…that’s why the industry of big pharma and this idea of eating all the time tries and makes it look silly…if you don’t want to have better health and experience ketosis and autophagy then keep getting sick and eating all the time… not to mention it brings you closer to the Lord and increases my prayer life… that’s why fasting is an ancient practice..it works and it’s powerful medicine
Fasting properly is fine, I do 16:8. Just got to be disciplined and make sure your getting you calories and macros. I have 3-4 meals of various sizes and make ups. Like they said too many people starve and binge. My body is well fueled, lost muscle, and added weight and great strength levels.
I’m literally in bed right now recovering after my third egg retrieval procedure!! I’ve been listening to Mindpump for two years now (have used Maps Aesthetics & Prime & HIIT in the past). My three egg retrievals took a lot out of my body and had a negative impact on my workouts. So your help in this episode couldn’t come at a better time. I’ve felt so lost lately, and listening to you reminds me why I tune in; you always offer great advice no matter what phase of life I’m in. Thank you!❤
Fasting saved my life. Between fasting and counting macros, I have been able to stop binge eating. I had pain in my stomach that doctors don’t know what it is, it goes away when I fast consistently. I don’t do it daily. I no longer fast more than 19hours. I take electrolytes. But if you are in a sticker place. Fasting to me has been amazing.
When I was 28 I got really into fasting, doing 16:8 all the time. I dropped to under 130lbs at 5ft 7, lost loads of muscle and lost my periods for 6 months. I had hair loss, felt cold and exhausted all the time. Fasting is not good, especially for most women in their fertile years. It disrupts the production of progesterone, thence all of a woman's hormone cycle. It takes longer for it to appear to be a problem for men. Fast forward to now, I'm 33, I go to the gym 3 times per week, 10k steps per day and try to hit my protein goals. I'm at 152lbs but look far better than I did at 130 with lower muscle mass. Mindpump has really helped turn my life around.
Totally relate to everything you’re saying! I was in the same place when I was in my 20’s. Now, in my 30’s workout 3 times a week and have balanced meals (no strict timing) more strength, muscle and feeling really good. All the things I would have told my younger get self 🥹❤️
Fasting isnt a "diet" sir. Its a lifestyle. And its about learning your body. I dont need to binge and gorge on a daily basis. I do one cheat day (MAYBE 2) per week, with 5-6 days of IF and low carb. That's how I avoid getting fat. If i don't stick to my plan, I start gaining weight very quicky. IF is just what i do, its not something I find difficult or struggle with. It just comes naturally
That’s your experience, but many see it as a diet. I used to fast as a fat loss protocol & it ruined my relationship with food. Most people don’t understand the importance of nutrition & macros; if they understood nutrition first, I think more people could use fasting when needed
You gain weight quickly because you've affected your metabolism through fasting. I eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks and am in great shape. Much better than when I did 16:8 and 20:4
I eat Tuesday to Sunday and I fast each day and from Thursday to Sunday I fast for my cheat day and one on Thursday then fast Friday, Saturday, and Monday for long periods of time and I feel great it becomes easier once you've found the right protocol for your body.
What’s most important, and even the MP guys have said it 100 times, is finding what works for YOU. If I’m not disciplined enough to count calories or macros but fasting is easy for me, then that’s the route. It is NOT optimal, of course, but if it works then use it.
I just discovered you guys a week ago and I have been binge watching/listening everyday. Such wide range of topics and conversations that just speaks to me! Thank you so much!
Five years ago I adopted IF. Never had the inevitable rebound claimed as assured in this. Within 3 lbs. Aside from dropping some lbs (I wasn’t obese) it also crushed my A1C. Also natural and not based on a drug. I don’t always fast. Now I’d say 95% of the time I eat a low carb breakfast, skip lunch, don’t snack and quit alcohol 6 months ago.
I haven't eaten breakfast since I was around 8 years old. Now 36, I could eat breakfast but don't feel like I need to, nor desire to. 3 meals a day ( or even 1 ) is a social construct not a biological requirement.
I also didn't eat breakfast as a kid. My Mom was worried so she would make a carnation instant breakfast (fortified chocolate milk) so I did drink that, but would have been fine with nothing til lunch.
Love your show, but fasting does have great benefits. Dr. Mindy Peltz would be an amazing guest on your show. The info will really open your eyes. I once was a skeptic.
I lost fifty pounds by fasting for most of the day; I only ate a small dinner. Well, I gained it all back because it simply wasn't sustainable. Today, I'm working on eating three healthy whole food meals that are high in protein and fiber. And I've joined a health club and plan to do strength training three days per week. Thanks to you guys, I have more of a sense of direction when it comes to weight loss.
I normally listen to mind pump over my podcast app. This is my first activity watching mind pump on UA-cam. Normally I don’t have the time to just set and watch what I want. I am glad I had a couple of hours to just chill and enjoy the uplifting vibe. Keep up the fun and I will continue on listening or watching your channel.
I'm a Master's student in sports science in Freiburg, Germany and your podcast teaches me so much that the university does not! I've been listening to you guys for about 2 years now and did Maps Anabolic, Maps Perfomance and Maps Powerlift. I made great gains following your programs. Keep it up guys. Also made my experience with fasting and you're AGAIN absolutely right with what you said.
I’ve done Red light therapy prior to my workouts for the last 6 months and without doubt it makes a significant difference in performance, but also recovery. I don’t get any DOMS since using RLT. But there’s another thing that I do prior to working out that is also performance enhancing…Grounding. Pairing grounding with Red light therapy is a synergistic enhancer for ATP. Grounding un clumps/separates your cells which then allows more oxygen to each cell, therefore highly powering them up and inhibiting fatigue. This also subsequently enhances the benefits of Red light therapy for the cells too.
Watched the Doug P doc "Alone in the Wilderness" on PBS years ago. Man, it was beautiful. Another guy is Totch Brown, think he was a hermit in the Everglades, 10k islands
Mind Pump is always shifting my perspective! Here is another example. I’ve totally had to rethink fasting. Thanks guys for always guiding me, encouraging, and inspiring. Mind Pump is the best!
Well, thanks to fasting, or rather saying Intermittent fasting I went from morbid to 13% body fat and being fit, and I still eat some junk food, a very balanced diet with healthy and some unhealthy foods and not gaining fat thanks to the small window of eating, and I'm extremely healthy as my blood markers show, as for fat loss and muscle gaining itself, is the same as any other diet as long as you eat enough protein and less or more calories as I have prove with myself. So guys, if you are going to speak about fasting or Intermittent fasting, bring an expert because you are old school regarding nutrition. Best
You’re the one who’s old school buddy. The research on fasting is overwhelmingly clear: when you equate for calories, there are ZERO significant benefits fat loss-wise to fasting as opposed to calorie restriction. Furthermore, the mind pump guys literally trained thousands of people over their careers, many of whom tried fasting and failed before meeting them. If it works for you, amazing. But it doesn’t work for a lot of people and the data is quite clear about that
@@brennand933 did I say that Intermittent fasting was better for fat loss? I said thanks to that I went from morbid to fit, because of the small eating window, and because of the ability to eat big meals and then having stable insulin throughout the day when fasting, but is the same as any diet regarding fat loss and muscle building as long as you fit the macros and calories.
@MiguePizar terrible may have been the wrong way to put it. In their experience and on the whole for most people it is not a good strategy for fat loss - I would trust that they have seen it. If it's working for you, then you are part of the 10% that make it work (they quoted 90% failure rate in the long term). These guys are all about doing things that are sustainable. If you were one of their clients and demonstrated that it was sustainable for you - I would hazard a guess they wouldn't steer you away from it.
Why bring an expert on to confirm what they are saying tho? They’ve been in the industry for years. They have clients who tried the approach to lose fat loss by fasting. And it failed. Majority of folks who fast for fat loss want a quick fix/quick results. Your approach may have worked but be mindful that you are amongst the small %.
@@skillz78 let's see the % of failed clients vs failed clients that do the standard diets, is way superior, that's why obesity is in the rise, because of that way of eating, the 3-6 meals per day, and if they failed with fasting it was simple, because they did extreme fasting and didn't meet all the macros, just like people who failed to lose weight with normal diets, the big difference is that with Intermittent fasting you still can eat foods that you enjoy, you don't suffer hunger and have steady energy levels and insulin throughout the fasting, but with several meals per day, that's not possible, if I could I would gladly be someone to do tests on why intermittent fasting is more effecting than normal diets, but as for fat loss, is exactly the same, no more no less, is just more convenient and less problems than with normal diets. Best
Public school teacher, here! Points all well made on our public school system. If I hold rewind the clock, I would have figured out how to make homeschool happen. So many better ways for our kids to learn!
I am so confused with nutrition. I have just watched the documentary on the twins study promoting vegan diet. In the meantime, I started eating my target weight in grams of proteins and I don’t dare to weight myself because I feel that I gained some weight… but most important, I follow thé Anabolic program and my body starts to please me for the first time of my life, so I will continue on this path. Thank you guys 🙏
Some clues that may help: the vegan diet eliminates the constant activation of the Randle Cycle, which causes systemic inflammation. As such, it does seem healthy and offers decent results in the beginning. This can be great for a while, but then reality hits. If someone doesn't cheat and stays truly vegan, at some point, usually around the 5 year mark or sooner the body breaks down with several serious health issues from nutritional deficiencies. Reason being, that the vegan diet excludes certain fatty acids that are essential for a healthy human body and at the same time high in carbohydrates that are non-essential. Systemic inflammation comes from the chronic activation of the Randle Cycle that is the result of mixing fats & carbs. As long as you substiantially reduce one, the inflammation goes down. So there is your question: would you reduce something that's essential for your body or something that's not?
Another clue: look up & read about crude protein. In case you're counting plant protein currently, you're taking in less than you think. Also note that labels can be 20% off in any direction. (Eat whole foods, don't use items with a laundry list of ingredients.) Also, with increasing age the % of consumed protein that also gets digested and taken up by your body decreases. So make sure you truly hit your target. And yes, MAPS programs are great for training. Anabolic is a good choice. Train with focus & good form. Have fun & be proud of your results!
I used to get hunger pangs at night but after fasting for 12-16 hrs daily, I don’t get hunger pangs at night anymore. I will say that I no longer let myself fast beyond 17 hrs since I don’t feel good whenever I do. But 12-14 hrs of fasting helps with my digestion and controlling hunger pangs which is huge for me.
Yall I was just looking in your Mindpump shop and I’m pretty excited about the sale plus I saw the kettlebell workouts! I’m so excited to learn more about those workouts and their effectiveness. Do yall have any shows on kettlebells ? I’d love to learn more I’m a mom -glam ma and am diggin these KB❤ Great show today btw thanks for always bringing it! Love how you encouraged the callers today ❤
3:00 cognitive dissonance. How many times have you guys talked about how in current times the f@od industry makes people addicted? So then maybe, people these days can't and often don't distinguish between real hunger & craving. Also, I've heard you mention that there're people eating as a way to sooth emotions or handle boredom. So then maybe there ARE benefits of a restricted eating window, that helps people to regulate these non-natural eating behaviors?
Completely disagree on the fasting…. I think you guys need to look more into what happens when you fast and how this can actually be beneficial when done right. Fasting has been so helpful for me in regulating my cravings and introducing healthier options. I mostly do 16:8 and throw some longer fasts in there occasionally. I’ve combined that with strength training and more activity and I am seeing great results and don’t ever feel the need to binge. I actually for the first time in a while time feel amazing! I don’t feel like I’m starving and still get to eat from 9 AM to 5 PM.
That's eating in a window. Not really fasting, but I wish you would listen to mind pump more often, they talked about this for years. Ton of people in the comments are saying they disagree, which shows they haven't listened to a full episode EVER. Would you tell a person with body dismorphia who looks at food only for nutrition and cuts out food just for their looks in the mirror, to fast?
@@crispy9377 yikes… I forgot this is the internet… but if I must explain in detail: Yes on most days I eat between 9 AM and 5 PM (which is 16 hours of fasting with an 8 hr eating window) - I change it up Sundays, Mondays and Fridays and also change it the week before my period if you must know. I include a 24-36 hr fast occasionally. You can call it whatever you want… And btw, I listen to at least one FULL Mind Pump episode daily… but yeah.. keep making assumptions. The intention of my comment was simply to state that I disagree with their stance on fasting and the title of THIS video. You can’t discredit something like fasting which has worked for so many and I think it’s irresponsible to do so. It may not be for everyone (as many things aren’t - I.e the caller that they recommended not doing 1 gram of protein per target weight which is what they normally preach) but it sure has helped me when nothing else in the past has and I feel better than ever. If it’s not for you, no one is forcing you to do it.
@pamelamolina27 read your first comment. You said you completely disagreed. Then said they should look more into fasting..... come on now, you really think Sal of all people don't understand the benefits? You then go on to explain what the guys have said before, WHEN FASTING IS DONE RIGHT. Great it works for you, but do remember 'this is the internet' and the title is to catch your attention, which it clearly has done
Hey guys! I love you guys but this is the only thing I disagree on. Especially because you have to consider if someone has healthy insulin levels and sensitivity vs someone who does not. I was able to regain my fertility back due to fasting. Couldn’t have done it without it. Dr. Benjamin Bikman speaks a ton of this - how most if not all disease stems from insulin resistance! You guys should have him on the show!
Lana got me a little choked up. Such a lovely girl. Another suggestion for her... there are free virtual healthy cooking classes that may be fun. Also, cook along with UA-cam videos. Those are both great ways to learn new healthy recipes that will help to break the cycle of eating the same thing every day.
I’ve learned from you guys that the goal is health, not aesthetics, and that’s changed my approach to diet and exercise for the better. But, for health (cancer prevention/mitigation etc) ketogenic diet and fasting show promise in studies , so for those that have had a health scare I’d say considering using these tools as a therapy rather than a way to drop lbs , could be valuable Also the way you handle vulnerability is incredible. We need more people like you guys
I think fasting can work if done right (hit macros, move, and resistance train). My friend lost ~80 lbs and kept it off using fasting. (Fasting can be a method for running a cut. Some people find time restricted eating to be an easier way to reduce some calories. )
Love your content! Doing some meal prep for the next few days! Love all of your content. I’m in my 50’s now and just getting about getting myself healthy with nutrition and strength training, and just enough cardio! Keep up the awesome content!
Sry guys, you’re gonna get a lot of haters on this one for fasting. Anyway my two cents (500>310 pounds): skipping dinner is extremely consistent way to turbo my results. After sunset, some monster comes out with my hunger sometimes, and my appetite no longer makes sense often. Morn prayer> study+workout > breakfast > errands > optional nap > work /projects> 2nd meal > walk if I got time or 2nd light workout > extreme chilling. Extreme chilling starts at sunset or sooner, no work, no food, no exercise, calm down and zzz.
Really great advice there to caller numbed 4. I'm on the fence with intermittant fasting or time restricted eating. I've done it for over three years now. I generally do a 16 hour fast, but I have my last meal when I have my last meal. By that I mean, if its outside the 8 hour eating window then so be it. My eating window is generally around 8 hours, but if it's less I will start fasting from that point. I lost about 60 lbs with intermittant fasting, but I also combined this with calorie counting too. I was probably not eating enough and list soem muscle. I've started eating more and gained about 20 lbs back and have been at the same weight for a year now. What works about intermittant fasting is that it makes you realise what hunger is. It also means that I eat less than I would have normally done ad I used to snack after eating my last meal of the day. There are some odd days where I will binge though. This is not a good thing about intermittant fasting as it would probably work better if I was always making sure that I was getting the right amount of nutrition and calories. I've tried to come off it, but found this now to be my eating pattern by default. Prior to this I had tried just calorie counting with no fasting window but it just didn't work. I think it works for some and not others and if it stops working then it's time to try something else. I don't think inteemittant fasting is the magic of weight loss that some fitness influencers say that it is, but it may work for people who are obese and with health conditions.
Intermittent fasting trend was everywhere in my work industry but it was sad to see the individuals work so hard and abstain from eating for so long and then give in and then have all the weight bounce back. They were so defeated.
@ammorninggirl Winner! Please email: ann@mindpumpmedia.com with a screenshot of your youtube username, winning episode number, and the email address you would like the program under and we will get you hooked up!
Left almost two hours early to the gym, to eat my pre workout small meal (it’s a heavy day) and drive around to listen to this episode before the gym 💪🔥🖤
54:54 just "protein rich" isn't good enough. Vegetarians have to pair certain types of foods in the same meal, because otherwise they may run into an issue of underconsuming 1 or more essential amino acids. It's not just that there have to be all 9 essential amino acids in the diet, the percentages of each also count. If someone misses the right amount of limiting amino acids like tryptophan or lysine, they'll run into health issues long term. So what to do if you're weary of tracking each amino acid for the right amount? Just eat animal foods in the sufficient amount (70% or up of total food intake).
I went from around 220 to my current weight 180 or less with fasting. However, I fully agree with you guys.. I don't do it consistently any more.. I've been lifting weights for a while now, prioritize protein in my meals, and sometimes calorie count to redice a couple of hundred calories if I start gaining fat weight. I do though think that intermittent fasting is one way to detach from food, and it is a good tool among others to improve your insulin sensitivity.
After about 3 weeks of probiotics, my eczema that I’ve been battling for over 10 years has basically disappeared. I couldn’t believe it. That’s the biggest difference I personally notice
You guys will probably never see this but no one around me would get it. I have been yo-yo dieting all my life. I have been from size 4 to size 14 in my adult life. I was born in the mid seventies so I was a teen while heroin chic was the trend. My body couldn’t handle that standard, even if I was very active and at a healthy weight. I was already struggling with self image…Ya know, I didn’t look like Kate Moss…All I knew was to eat less…always less. But, most of the time, I was still eating mostly healthy thanks to my parents, at least. In my family though, it was extremely common to hear all the men of the family criticizing women’s bodies (my grandfather, my uncles, my father..). They all were very lean and active and wanted the women around them to live up to their standards. I always was a very sensitive person I that affected me so much. The comments I was exposed to towards women around me and sometimes myself at a very young age were sometimes very mean and totally uncalled for. And the only thing we knew at that time was that we should move more and eat less…At that time, being more active meant doing mostly cardio. Now I am 48. I was recently obese according to my BMI. I didn’t look that big but I didn’t feel good about myself and I had high pressure. I was sometimes binging because I felt bad and it made me feel kinda « high » while it lasted. 6 months ago, I decided that I wanted to see if I could find solid science based info about nutrition and exercise on the web. I am from a scientific background and I have never trusted those cute influencers with 0 studies on those topics but with all the answers. I do not trust anecdotal fact either. I know how to find real solid sources but I didn’t know where to start. And to be honest, I didn’t think I would find much besides what I already knew about the subject (move more, eat less). To my tremendous surprise, knowledge had evolved incredibly since the 80s..I found Layne Norton, Abbey Sharp and you guys. I was blown away. For me, for months, I was kinda hesitant to try a new way of doing things because it was going against years of brainwashing and believing the other way around. But I managed to convince myself to switch from cardio to lifting (I am very active anyway so I told myself it might be ok). I also started counting calories for the first time in my life. I started increasing protein, even adding protein powder to my diet to help. I started taking creatinine also. I started at 1275 cal a day and I was fine. I lost 20 pounds which moved me from obese to overweight. I was really happy. Recently. I have been extremely hungry, hitting kind of a plateau. I felt miserable. I turn to you guys. I leaned about reverse dieting for the first time in my life. Again, since it was going against all I knew, I was really reluctant. But I still tried because I felt I couldn’t live with that intense hunger much longer. I was literally starving now. I slowly started increasing calories, and that allowed me to finally being able to hit my protein goal (minimum of 120g a day) and sometimes even above it. GUYS! I cannot believe what happened. I am shocked. I trusted the process and didn’t weigh myself for a while, increasing weight lift. AND IT WORKED!!!! I am now eating 1700 cal a day in average (I am 5”3) and I do not starve anymore. AND I am still slowly loosing weight! It is so counterintuitive for me but I gotta trust science. And I do trust you now. Well all that being said, I wanted to thank you for all you’ve done for me. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Former Faster here. Wished I had known this before. Did 20/4 fasting, I didnt lose 1 lb even, but lost Muscle, lost my sleep and my Period..Thankfully I gave up after 3 months.
Extended periods of fasting can benefit both the body and the mind by aiding in the healing process. Fasting can also be an effective method for weight and fat loss, particularly when combined with consuming fewer calories than needed after strategically breaking the fast.
Imo it's more of what "happens with food and eating after the actual fasting is over" is what's important. Mind pump is right that most people will go to extremes after a fast and erase their gains after fasting. I know cause I did it before. I came off a fast better next time though. I used keto foods post fast and didn't give back fasting gains. I focused on foods 30% protein like whole eggs and post fast it worked.
Maps strong would be awesome! Given the feedback yall mentioned, I would like to run it with my fiancé and try it some of my female clients. I did not have a chance to buy it with last month’s sale, so in the words of the winner of Ep. 2352, “Give me that program!!”
Gotta admit, guys, you're really engaging in some mental gymnastics and tortured logic with your anti-fasting episodes. You don't feel the cognitive dissonance when the comment sections are filled with comments of people saying how it's worked so well for them for years. You just have to accept the fact that tons of people successfully use different types of fasting to lose weight.
My 2yr old daughter got c. Dif when she was 7months old and the lead GI doctor at Children’s Dallas said it’s as or more effective to take the probiotics during the time you’re taking the antibiotics then just taking it post dose. So idk if that’s helpful for future antibiotic corses, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Love you guys!! ❤
I love the story about the 70 year old man, reminds me of my father. Men just don’t know how to live that way anymore it’s truly something society is losing as a whole.
Thanks to fasting and carnivore for weight, I lost 12kg in six weeks (lent). Put half back on in about 3months. Continued IF. Did carnivore fasting in August for a month and lost 1kg. Realised I’ve crashed my metabolism and now need to spend a long time to get it back on track. Fasting is for my spiritual life only from here on.
I homeschool my 2 younger kids, best decision I ever made! I wish I would have done it with my older 3! Also, I saw that documentary... so heartbreaking 💔
Who makes money from fasting? Nobody makes money telling people to eat less. Also, this idea that it was just a spiritual practice seems to oversimplify. What about the biological evolution of humans to go long periods of time without sustenance in order for the species to survive in times of immense scarcity.
Hi What about protein for someone who can't/won't eat eggs, dairy or anything from meat - Vegan. I've been looking into "Huel" because it is vegan and they offer 20g and 40g protein shakes. Their 40g shake has Omegas. So far that is the best one I've found for the benefit and cost. I know my protein is low and I just found you guys and bought Muscle Mommy so I know I need to get my protein intake much more. I'm 56 years old, 5'3" and 114lbs. I can't add the animal products, vegan from my heart (not for health reasons). Thank you so much - I really appreciate your advice and love listening to your shows.
Great topic! I love your podcast and follow you consistently. I recently purchased the Muscle Mommy but never received the 'extra books'. I emailed your team but haven't heard back...Any chance you can help? Thanks!!!
Tell that to people who are being healed … fasting increases metabolism if you do it the right way… calorie restriction destroys metabolism… generally like mind pump but they are way off on this
Any tips for endomorph petite women? 156 cm, 62kg, body fat 35%. Muscle mass in the normal range. Low metabolism. Stuggling for 2 years to stick to eating in a calorie deficit.
So, you' guys are okay with Ozempic being a tool for weight loss (according to a recent podcast) but not fasting? You referred to it as a diet. Perhaps you should do more research on it's effect on weight loss.
I totally agree. Having watched them for a while one of their pet things to hate on is fasting. And every comment section is filled with people saying how good it's been from them.
If I want to lose more fat, would adding your hiit program a couple days a week to maps aesthetic be too much or just do one at a time? I just finished my second round of aesthetics, my weight is going up on the bar, but I’m not losing many inches anymore
You guys should definitely have Cole from Snake Diet on, that would be a good episode. Especially on this topic! Or A Healthy Alternative, they are good too!
You can find success stories from any diet or program. At the end of the day, you have to look at what the first or program is, how it’s working to cause weight loss, and then recognize the weak spots of it. At the end of the day, a calorie deficit is what causes weight loss. So how does fasting help with that? It can help by: -limit snacking through routine -limit the amount of bad decisions you may make with more meal choices -etc. What are its weaknesses? -your body may respond to going long periods of time without food by lowering your metabolism. -your body may respond by sending more cravings signals. -you can fall into a pattern of fasting and then binging If you’re someone who isn’t as susceptible to the weaknesses of fasting, and who needs the strengths of fasting to help you reach a caloric deficit-then it may be a good routine for you. But if you’re someone who is more prone to the weaknesses of fasting, then it won’t be a helpful routine. Any time I see comments like, “I’m unsubscribing-you guys don’t know what you’re talking about,” I think one of two things is going on: 1. That person has subscribed to the cultism of fasting as a community/miracle cure. 2. They _did_ experience success with it, but fail to realize it may not be helpful to others: and could even be detrimental to some people.
Yeah man fasting is supposed to help fix your relationship with food. I couldn't imagine 6mons of only water. That's crazy
Detaching, they mentioned that. Actually said it was a good tool in that case near the end of the segment. He said it worked well for the athletes who were stuck on the "I must eat every two hours or my muscles will fall off thought".
@drip369 - It was definitely hard at first but it was worth it to get all those cravings to go away.
@@Genevieve-es1jl that's major toughness tho. If i had to I'd find a way, yet i still can't imagine

Guys.. Fasting does work.. especially if you are insulin resistant (which most peeps don't know they are .)
Not talking about 7 days etc.. 16-18 hours.. but do Resistance Training and High Protein at same time. Not low calorie..
100 percent agreed! Done right and combined with the right foods and amounts-- best way to live! That’s how our ancestors lived. Wish they would talk about this rather than just weight loss.
They do @karinaglz0220 just have to listen to them more often.
Insulin resistant woman, and it increased my insulin resistance.

I loved the 2nd caller. She was so vulnerable and I loved Sal's advice about talking to yourself in third person. I really needed to hear that today!
We homeschool. My 19 year old finished at 15.5 yrs old and has 3 years work experience in a blue color field and is starting his own business on the side. He's confident and secure in his person and is reliable and honest.

Can we all just take a moment to acknowledge the genuine compassion these guys have for the callers?
Love watching the podcast on YT!
Indeed.
Yes! WOW! Genuine compassion, for sure! Plus, Sal seems to not only have a ton of experience with health and wellbeing, but he seems to be very knowledgeable in physiology. Bravo, guys! Not the first time you all put me in tears. Prayers for that young lady.
Thanks for the segment on homeschooling. We chose to homeschool our kids and one of the big reasons was to be able to spend that time with them.
Come on guys I’ve done IF for past 12 months and resistance training for past 5 months now I’m in stage 4 fat loss with abs showing thanks to fasting - I’m not sure why you say fasting is bad.
Well they explain why so maybe listen :)
Because they're trainers. If everybody knew that DIET is 99.9% of it, these dudes wouldn't have a business. Don't fast, eat protein and then come to us for an exercise program. Thats what they want.
I totally agree. Been fasting for 15 years. It works well
@@petermurphy2106 it works FOR YOU well. For many people it doesn’t in the context of fat loss

For her to share the story takes a lot of courage, and it’s truly inspiring. I was very touched by it.
Former Faster here 🙋🏽♂️
Many people fast and it becomes an addiction where if you eat anything before your window you feel like you cheated.
(and no jabs taken)
Prior to that, I used to get colds, flus etc all the freaking time.
You guys are amazing. Your response and the support you were providing the second caller was heart warming. High respect for you four. ❤
Small fasts are amazing. Having a small eating window is an excellent lifestyle. Super simple, easy and does yeild good results
Fasting properly is fine, I do 16:8. Just got to be disciplined and make sure your getting you calories and macros. I have 3-4 meals of various sizes and make ups. Like they said too many people starve and binge. My body is well fueled, lost muscle, and added weight and great strength levels.
You mean not consistently eating food ? Wow you discovered a calorie deficit good job

So true. I starved myself (fasted) all thru my 20s and it worked, but then my metabolism drastically slowed down and I started to feel extremely weak.
Love that you guys connect fasting to the removal of things. Not to lose weight.
Same here 👍
That’s your experience, but many see it as a diet.
The second caller was so great. I felt like I had some crossover questions answered in that one call. Thank you guys
I greatly appreciate the information you guys are putting out on this show! Thanks a ton for staying truthful to your viewers!
YOU MUST EAT BREAKFAST…. SO SAITH THE FOOD COMPANIES
You guys did an absolutely amazing job with that underweight caller, you were so patient and understanding.
Sending big hugs to caller 2, my fellow buckeye ❤. My heart goes out to you, I'm so happy you are on a healing path.

100% Doesn't make sense sounds like they can't make money off of Fasting and don't like that
Completely disagree on the fasting….
That's not really fasting then, is it? If you're eating between 9 and 5.
@@kimmaclean3234 emphasis on “mostly”
I saw that Maya documentary that Justin referenced. Never cried so hard in my life. As a mom, it was shattering.
I’ve learned from you guys that the goal is health, not aesthetics, and that’s changed my approach to diet and exercise for the better. But, for health (cancer prevention/mitigation etc) ketogenic diet and fasting show promise in studies , so for those that have had a health scare I’d say considering using these tools as a therapy rather than a way to drop lbs , could be valuable
Also the way you handle vulnerability is incredible. We need more people like you guys

I think fasting can work if done right (hit macros, move, and resistance train). My friend lost ~80 lbs and kept it off using fasting. (Fasting can be a method for running a cut. Some people find time restricted eating to be an easier way to reduce some calories. )

Yes, lots of defensive people on here.
Fantastic show again lads keep up the great work 👍
Sry guys, you’re gonna get a lot of haters on this one for fasting.

They might still play it on PBS. Great doc, awesome narration

I learn so much from. Watching you guys
Left almost two hours early to the gym, to eat my pre workout small meal (it’s a heavy day) and drive around to listen to this episode before the gym 💪🔥🖤
I watched PBS specials on that man in the wilderness. So good 🎉
54:54 just "protein rich" isn't good enough.
Id like to see you guys discuss this with Dr Jason Fung.
I just recently stopped fasting and I’ve been losing body fat. I was that binge eater and now I have a healthy relationship with food.
Tremendously proud of you 👏
Listen to your body as you go, you’re doing great!

Former Faster here. Wished I had known this before. Did 20/4 fasting, I didnt lose 1 lb even, but lost Muscle, lost my sleep and my Period..Thankfully I gave up after 3 months.
Same for me. People are very ignorant to the dangers of fasting and defensive when anyone calls them out on it.
Something else the fitness industry has an issue with is making sweeping declarative statements for click bait.
Saving Maja was the documentary Justin is talking about. So sad. Made me bawl😢
Red light on balls = good
Sunlight on b-hole = bad
Got it😂😂😂😂
I love the story about the 70 year old man, reminds me of my father. Men just don’t know how to live that way anymore it’s truly something society is losing as a whole.
Im thinking of doing a 24/36hr fast once a month
Do it once a week!
St. Francis Assisi: “Preach the gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words”.
3:22 Sal is correct about fasting binge. The reason I don’t fast longer than 18-20 Hours these days.
13:12 worshippers we are!
I homeschool my 2 younger kids, best decision I ever made! I wish I would have done it with my older 3!
Also, I saw that documentary... so heartbreaking 💔
May I ask how can I get started with glp1? I asked in one of your other videos
Who makes money from fasting? Nobody makes money telling people to eat less. Also, this idea that it was just a spiritual practice seems to oversimplify. What about the biological evolution of humans to go long periods of time without sustenance in order for the species to survive in times of immense scarcity.
Hi
What about protein for someone who can't/won't eat eggs, dairy or anything from meat - Vegan.
I have not eaten meat since 1996
Great topic! I love your podcast and follow you consistently. I recently purchased the Muscle Mommy but never received the 'extra books'. I emailed your team but haven't heard back...Any chance you can help? Thanks!!!
Tell that to people who are being healed … fasting increases metabolism if you do it the right way… calorie restriction destroys metabolism… generally like mind pump but they are way off on this
I fasted for years and struggled to maintain any muscle it might be good to assist with some kind quick fix but long term it sucks
In exchange for showing my husband Mind Pump clips, he makes me watch the cabin videos followed by some from the New England boat builder 😅
Which digestive enzymes are recommended? Thanks!
Wait, so sunshine on the jewels is no good. But we can spend a bunch of money on red light and some how that’s ok. 🤔
And since it “helps grow more hair” you’ll have the most luscious pubes ever 🤣
I disagree.. I’ve been using intermittent fasting and fasting for about 15 years.. works well.

Any tips for endomorph petite women? 156 cm, 62kg, body fat 35%. Muscle mass in the normal range. Low metabolism. Stuggling for 2 years to stick to eating in a calorie deficit.
Ahh you guys should watch the series “life below zero” these are ppl and families that live in Alaska. It’s amazing. 😊
Most of the comments are saying how fasting has worked for them.
You can find success stories from any diet or program.
At the end of the day, you have to look at what the first or program is, how it’s working to cause weight loss, and then recognize the weak spots of it.
At the end of the day, a calorie deficit is what causes weight loss.
So how does fasting help with that?
It can help by:
-limit snacking through routine
-limit the amount of bad decisions you may make with more meal choices
-etc.
What are its weaknesses?
-your body may respond to going long periods of time without food by lowering your metabolism.
-your body may respond by sending more cravings signals.
-you can fall into a pattern of fasting and then binging
If you’re someone who isn’t as susceptible to the weaknesses of fasting, and who needs the strengths of fasting to help you reach a caloric deficit-then it may be a good routine for you.
But if you’re someone who is more prone to the weaknesses of fasting, then it won’t be a helpful routine.
Any time I see comments like, “I’m unsubscribing-you guys don’t know what you’re talking about,” I think one of two things is going on:
1. That person has subscribed to the cultism of fasting as a community/miracle cure.
2. They _did_ experience success with it, but fail to realize it may not be helpful to others: and could even be detrimental to some people.
