    Great little video, I have definitely like how Infinity is smaller and cheaper to get into (the free rules and army builder are huge). The minis are gorgeous full of details, I love painting and they pushed me out of my comfort zone and pushed my skills in a way GW minis never could. I do find that CodeOne is a good place to start, I started with N4 and it was...rough, a lot of unit specific rules i didnt know ended with a lot of 'gotcha' on me and that was frustrating, watching and playing a few CodeOne games helped me understand the basics and it was much easier to get into N4 after.

    I sure have spent over 500€ and have now two armies, love this game so much. 500 would net you a barely playable tournametn Army at GW.

    Thanks for another impetus to get seriously into Infinity! Your past videos inspired me to order the Crimson Stone set and pay shipping from the UK, as well as checking Miniature Market for on-sale minis and boxes. They always seem to have something on sale that I like the looks of (whether it fits in the starter factions or not). One of these days I'll get them painted up and see if I can drum up a group at my LGS. It'll be tough breaking the GW logjam, but it won't happen if someone doesn't try.
    Ifnothing else, it gives me more stuff to look at/listen to.

    My biggest problem with Infinity is identifying the models as the great aesthetic does make them all look more similar than e.g. GW model ranges. Even in the startersets I have, there is not handy way to learn which model is which. Is there a recognition guide out there?

      @TesseractMinis  Рік тому +3

      Corvus Belli publish a lot of such guides on their website and someone on Reddit has done some extensive Unit Recognition Sheets. A little Google Fu will get you what you need :)

    With infinity there seems to be a sort of gap in how to paint the miniatures. I was hoping Angel’s two books would cover that, but they skips over bits of how models can be painted. An example is the Red Cross on helmet or Red dots on PanOceania minis. I could not find out how they were done, nor suggestions on how to do them. I missed when SEB_K_MINIS had a commission to paint PanO, to find out more. You notice when you get Operation … box. Minis in them and information about them. Not a lot about assembling and painting. Even a link on their site with this information would be useful.

    • @TesseractMinis
      @TesseractMinis  2 роки тому +4

      The faction paint sets all include the step by step guides for each faction, written by angel. The little symbols are decals, which Corvus Belli sell.
      I do agree that both of these things could be signposted better - but I also appreciate that CB don't try to push their customers into a specific painting ecosystem.

    • @FairieSword
      @FairieSword 2 роки тому +3

      @@TesseractMinis The painting sets are nice, they give you the basic colours to paint a faction mini (and the included mini for fun). But the instructions in them are lacking, there are definitely a few big gaps in how Angel gets from one part to another at times, Ive been painting for a while so I can make the jump or do my own research to tweak what Angel did to my own liking but I could see it being discouraging for a new Hobbiest

    It is hard to purchase Infinity products. I am in the USA - Oregon. Online stores based in the UK seem to have Corvus Belli and third-party Infinity products in stock. Shipping can add a lot to the total cost when purchasing a product overseas because that is where it can be found and is readily available. What do you recommend as the best purchasing method and stores with products in stock?

      These predate Code One, officially - they're about 4 starter sets old. However the simplified rules they use to teach are very similar to Code One.
      I'd recommend grabbing a code one rulebook either as a free pdf on the CB website, or in physical.

    Maybe I was playing it wrong but the reaction mechanic seemed fiddle to me. Trying to figure out when someone was seen at a point of their movement or not just bogged the game down.

    • @TesseractMinis
      @TesseractMinis  2 роки тому +5

      You get silhouette tokens in the boxed sets, which make it much much faster to figure out. Alternatively there's a bunch of premium physical tokens and 3d printable ones.
      I can't say I've ever noticed it bog the game down, but you definitely do have to check sight lines often. However you're typically doing this passively, and constantly, because it's a tactical game built around gunplay. It should be a cooperative experience. My opponent's spot as many of my AROs for me, as I do for myself, some games. And vice versa.

  • @TwinStripe
    @TwinStripe 2 роки тому +4

    Okay, so to be honest, price is still a barrier for me when it comes to Infinity. Sure, you may 'only need 15 minis', but when those minis average £10 a model, that's a big ask for a buy-in, especially when even a company as overpriced as GW can sell you a Kill Team starter set for that kind of price (and as you've said, it's more like 30)!
    Hell, I can get a Firefight starter set with vehicles and some scenery or two Godtear starter sets and 4 additional packs of Champions for that kind of money....
    Shame, because I really do like the look of those minis...

    • @TesseractMinis
      @TesseractMinis  2 роки тому +4

      If you like the look of the minis, I think it's important to be aware of what you're buying. Whilst you can indeed get a kill team, say, for £30 - it's not really the same thing. When you handle an infinity sculpt you quickly realise it's not comparable to a GW squad sculpt - it's much closer to a character, in terms of quality.
      Your starting action pack will set you back £60-70 depending where you buy it, so your average is well below £10/model until you start adding the large pieces, that logically pull up that average ...because they're large.
      You also get no repeat poses, with infinity boxes. Hell... You barely get any repeat profiles, save for 3 basic line infantry and they're still all unique sculpts.
      It's just a very different environment and I totally understand where you're coming from, because until I understood it, the whole reason I steered clear of infinity is because it looked super expensive.

    • @TwinStripe
      @TwinStripe 2 роки тому +1

      @@TesseractMinis Granted, the starter packs do work out considerably cheaper (as starter boxes should do), but I notice the real price hikes tend to come into play after that. Adding to the initial 7-8 minis per faction can work out very pricey from that point onward. The CodeOne Collection packs are probably the most effective way to get a fully featured Code One army on the board at 25-30 minis, and with a handy rules booklet, but that's the best part of £200 after discounts (about £220-230 RRP).
      For that money I could get a Deadzone and Firefight starter set and add in either a Veer-Myn or GCPS strike force which gives you two games (a skirmish game and a 'full size' game), three skirmish armies with lots of variation, three 1000 point (ish) armies and some scenery.
      That's over 100 minis and at least one vehicle, but another vehicle or a booster box (with 8 - 15 minis) will set you back another £25 if you want to take it up to the RRP for the C1 collection box
      Right now, the Godtear starters are ridiculously cheap at around £30 each after discount and the Champion boxes are around £20. £200 will give you two of each faction type, 8 champions, around 30-35 minis, all the rules and cards and two double sided boards
      I was kinda hoping that CBs dabbling with SioCast would make things a little cheaper and accessible. The starter boxes are a great price, the boosters are a little high (about £25 for 3-4 minis is 'palatable', but it's no Stargrave crew box, which would be the same price), but the action packs are pushing it for only 7-10 bodies on the board.
      Price and metal minis are definitely the two blocks for me - maybe not for other people, but with the cost of living going the way it is, I've a choice of my hobby being affordable or 'on hold' and I don't think I'm alone there....

      As a game, more so than any other, I think it leans really heavily in to online play over tabletop simulator. All the in person infinity I've played has been as a result of me teaching people, and bringing miniatures and scenery for both of us to use.

      @@TesseractMinis same. I bought the n2 and n3 battle boxes and fully painted the armies. I put all 4 armies in a carry case and would do the little booklet games with people to try to get them into the game. Letting them pick whichever army they liked the look of more. I kind of gave up on the hobby in favor of MTG because playing online just doesn't have the same feeling and playing 40k just made me wish I was playing infinity.
