I personally think they’re going to have a “moment” with this program. I think it’s going to stand out and be a crowd favorite. This team always thinks about the audience. Not sure if it will medal at worlds but I sure think it’s going to be a crowd pleaser. Love that final lift. And doing push-ups on slippery ice (during a competitive program) is sooo difficult given that a lot could go wrong.
The whole time I was thinking “Nooo” only to realize I had a big goofy smile on my face! They skate with conviction and I’ll bet this program can evolve into something really memorable.
I watched it twice to be sure I didn't miss something. this program pulls them back, makes them regress. Sorry but, that's my opinion. They have a great potential and one would expect them to evolve in a different, more "mature" way. It's not even funny. it could have been. I don't even understand the concept of this program, what they want to express, what emotions they want to share with us.
@@66bayouboy There were not my favourite team these last few years, but I saw the potential they have. Technically and artistically, I thought they could improve more. I'm disappointed, because normally an ice dance couple has to evolve. since the retirement of Papadakis and Cizeron, and given the age of the italian skaters (who are very good technically, but less good artistically, in my opinion), they had the opportunity to become n°1 in Europe. But I think it will not happen with this program
I think after Smart/Diaz pulled off Mask of Zorro so well, a film theme with a difference could have looked like a good idea, I'm just not sure about this. I love them, but I do agree with you.
Класс! Люблю таких людей: творческих, мыслящих, ищущих новые формы. Как далеки от этого современные русские танцы, где всё делается по одному примитивному шаблону, где всегда одна безизбежная тема - демонстрация похоти.
I would love to see them getting out of their comfort zone and trying something classical, especially since it’s 2 more seasons before the next Olympics.
I love these two so much, I think they are fabulous, but this… not sure. That’s me being kind. However, I watched it again and it is beginning to grow on me. It’s so early in the season, they have time. It has potential.
Hmm, wow, I'm surprised at how much I liked that. I do think it's different from what they've done before (I mean, not miles different, but different enough to feel fresh). Of course I still want to see better skating skills from her.
That was difficult to watch. Lewis dropping down to do "push-ups" towards the end of the program was a truly jump the shark moment for me. They need to come up with something else, and quickly. This program won't get them very far.
When Fear and Gibson are leaning on the boards or jump-roping or sparring or doing push-ups in full stop, they're not really displaying any real ice dance skills. I get that the function of the Choreo Sequence is largely performative with choreography taking full center stage, but ideally from a world-level team of this calibre, you are still expecting some kind of marriage between skating and dance and performance. But the way this program is done, especially in the ChSt, is leaning too heavily on sheer performance antics with little in the way of skating or dance substance. It's not that I don't think a Rocky program is doomed to be cringe, but I don't think this is the way to do it for F/G at this point in their career. On a related but different note, I have always disliked how the Choreographic Character Step Sequence limited skaters to the short axis. I understand why they've introduced this element, it's in line with how the ISU progressively made ice dance step sequence requirements more and more lenient since the nascency of the IJS, so that teams can focus on performance and individuality by being less overburdened by series of difficult turns. But skating is about continuous movement and flow, yet an element where teams are boxed into skating along the short axis kills speed and flow, and most teams end up resorting to doing a show-off moment in front of the judges while barely skating which gets old very quickly. But there was a rule change this season that allowed Choreographic Character Step Sequence to be done on the long axis, diagonal or circular pattern as well. Yet it is quite puzzling to see not many teams taking advantage of this. These dance teams could be approaching this with so much speed, edges and power, blazing across the long axis for instance without being limited by IJS difficult turns and transferring that energy into delivering projection and real dance while skating big. I was looking forward to this when I first saw this rule change. Yet these teams and choreographers don't seem to be taking full advantage of this to innovate in what could be the most inventive skating discipline, so far it's disappointing.
Hmm, I've loved the dynamism of these two in past years but this just seems so wide of the mark and lacklustre that it's going to either need a total rewrite or dumped in the bin and replace. 😢
This is pure cringe. I'm baffled as to why judges seem to be willing to back this team with her non-existent skating skills and their embarrassing programs. It reduces Ice Dance to a laughing stock to have them ranked so highly.
Maybe a more talented world level team can pull off this ridiculous program, but this performance here looks like an exhibition program by your good local club skaters.
I’m not too sure. Hopefully it will grow on me but, right now, I feel a little disappointed. The opening section seems slow and it’s too gimmicky for me. I was really hoping that Lilah and Lewis would do more of a romantic fd, along the lines of their exhibition this past season. I can’t see the judges going for this but …..
While I'm pleased they did not go for another diva medley, this hasn't yet grabbed me. Early days though and I guess there are tricks under preparation, especially for that opening sequence.
Personally l love it but it's probably still in the early stages. Needs feedback from judges in some minor competituons. What we see now will probably be quite different from Europeans but it is innovative.
(Sharon Shneyer, Philadelphia) After watching this program, I don't think it's as bad as comments would suggest. I would like to see their Rhythm dance though.
This music doesn’t hide their (her) lack of power well. The Czechs or Hubbell could pull this off, but I think this will be a tiresome watch for the whole season, and that’s sad because I have loved them the last couple years.
@3:31. Their kicks by the board must have been inspired after watching Elaine Zayak's 1984 LP at Nationals where she too used a Rocky piece for the last 1/3 of her program and did a high scissor kick by the barrier. There was a reason that section was dropped from Elaine's LP when she got to Sarajevo. Just saying.
I see this working with a strong female skater like Madison Hubbell and giving the woman some uncharacteristic lifts and playing her strength up. I still think it could be cool and physical. more modern-dancy even with Lilah. Just the choreography and music edit doesn't live up to it.
I agree. I thought she is a bit too girly. Same with him tbh. I wish the performance, apart from having to be cleaner and crisper, was too dancery and pretty. It needs more physical power and fighting spirit. Maybe needs to be a bit rawer or authentic if you know what I'm trying to say.
Well, there's a fine line between a creative and original concept and cheese, and they may have crossed the line here. If David Santee were dead, he's be rolling over in his grave...even he never leaned into "Rocky" quite this much, and he skated to it for years! I don't want to be overly judgmental this early in the season, as all programs grow and mature, but I do think this one needs to. They need to make sure they focus on the dance elements and not go too overboard with gimmicky moves...which means I think the pushups need to go. They're not dance any more than miming drinking a pitcher of eggs would be...or lying on the ice trying to avoid being counted out. Figure skating is already reaching Peak Unnecessary Cartwheel (you don't skate with your hands, people), so let's skip the pushups and try to make sure most of the dance is about edges and two people, well, dancing. Not just miming punching each other and jumping rope.
On top of that the first half feels completely disconnected rom the second half. I think about bad Riverdance programs where teams were just standing in one place doing steps and kicks. Good Riverdance programs made sure the Irish step dancing moved across the ice.
No one embraces camp (with a wink) like tgey do. This is fun. I've always loved this music for skating. But will this program bring them up to yhe next level? Not sure how judges will get it. It is a big gamble. We'll see!
Don't like the music & 1st twizzles were dodgy. Lift at 3.11 looks dodgy. A bit slow over the ice it seems? This routine not really my cuppa tea. Quite awful really
I love them but this is awful. Remember all those Russian programs where people mimed talking on the phone or writing a letter? This has mimed jumping rope and boxing. It's really kinda cheap and tacky.
I feel like this is more of a show piece than competitive dance
I love it!! I love it!! I Loveeeeeet!!
I love the push-ups, sparring, and jump rope, in the workout step sequence. Perfect.
Nobody knows anything! They won today in Osaka with this routine!! I loved all of it!!!!!🎉🎉😊
I can see this routine evolving over the season. Good foundations there.

(Sharon Shneyer), Being from Philadelphia, I know that the Rocky program will be a hit.
@@DeathSpiral777 they seemed to really love it.
The whole time I was thinking “Nooo” only to realize I had a big goofy smile on my face! They skate with conviction and I’ll bet this program can evolve into something really memorable.
It did! You were right. Check out their performance at the NHK
I am a huge fan of theirs, and British but I am really not sure about this at all!
It does tell the story! I hope they can improve it and make it a clean program.
Lots of stopping and starting, and so camp it veered all the way back to cringe
I can't decide if I love it or if it's ridiculous, campy nonsense. Both, I think!
Standing still doing punches and pushups is so not the Ice Dance I fell in love with watching V/M in 2010...
I don’t get it either.
Lewis is such a fantastic skater. I feel bad for him, to be honest.
Exactly this is not ice dance I've always loved.ISU have ruined it.Where's all the closed holds?

I see they really don't want to be European champions.
The Lithuanian Reed Team might score higher than this.
agree. Bad choice of music, bad choice of program
As long as Guignard Fabbri are around that won't be possible for them
@figureskating2023_ with GF's scores from last year it will be tough even for the Russians
@@DeathSpiral777 girrrrrrl
Fun concept. Something feels off. It’s hard to try new concepts as it’s a big risk.

Very true. Always about cheap love and romance.
Interesting choice. The push ups ruin the choreo step sequence.
I would love to see them getting out of their comfort zone and trying something classical, especially since it’s 2 more seasons before the next Olympics.

Unpopular opinion: I like it, but I consider the lack of a callback to Adrian's and Rocky's first date on the skating rink a missed opportunity.

This type of program sets ice-dancing back in term of it being taking seriously as an Olympic sport.
it just did.
Das Programm wäre im Schaulaufen besser aufgehoben, als im Wettbewerb. 🙈

oh boy, a little too gimmicky for my taste but I wish them well and have liked many of their programs.
Love the Rocky concept. But I’d have stuck with just the original movie’s soundtrack and built the relationship/love story.

This needs to win Worlds/Europeans/GPF/4CC, I don't care if they aren't eligible for 4CC, it needs to win everything.
Love this dance team but , sorry. Wrong music for them. They have time to change.
Eh shouldn’t this be in gala and not a program for competition??
It should be in the the trash can.
Feels like a story as the Zorro for Smart and Diaz though not as good
They have never progressed just same old tacky shlock! Plumbs new levels!😂
