  • Imagine a light bulb that can switch to it's own power source if your home's power goes out - well the new NEBO Blackout bulb can do exactly that. With an internal rechargeable battery and 4 brightness settings (1 fixture setting and 3 backup settings), this bulb functions as a normal light bulb in any standard light fixture socket and the socket keeps it charged and ready to go!
Battery specs and estimated runtime are discussed in this video, as well as an in-depth explanation of the bulb size.

Is a bulb like this a good idea?

But... what if I actually flip the switch and *want* the light to go out? Do I have to wait for the battery to drain for it to finally turn off? I mean, hell, if I unscrew it from the light fixture, will it stay on in backup mode or will it shut off? It seems like a cool idea but there are definitely some problems I see with a battery backup light bulb.

You're right - this bulb is not actually "autonomous" (for all the reasons you have mentioned).
You will need to manually turn it on in the event of a power outage. And you can then cycle through 4 settings (High, Med, Low and Off).
