Hello you! ! I am an amputeeOG who is a survivor of a traumatic boating accident, or hit and failure to render aide. Becoming an amputee in 2001 has been a journey with many setbacks, but having the will to succeed, and move forward with God’s grace I am able to live my best life. I am hoping my hand amputation story will give strength, educate, and help people know the life an amputee. I am aspiring to give some insight into what it’s like being an amputee. I could have never imagined I would wake up one day, and have a story to tell about having an amputation. One is not finally happy, but able to find happiness along the way.

Ouch! I’m so sorry! Mine was motorcycle. I don’t know if I could have made the decision to amputate. It was made for me. But I didn’t realize it for a while even though they kept on telling me it was gone. My brain/soul couldn’t accept and hear it yet. That must have been so hard for you and your mom. I still have trouble really LOOKING in the mirror even though it’s been 30 years! I so understand. Also my grief came in brief waves of uncontrollable sobbing. And then my body/brain would disassociate and I couldn’t remember why I was crying. It was like it was so painful I knew I could only grieve in tiny amounts at a time. So many hugs to you!

Wow.. Your story is difficult too.. The ache of grieving sounds like how I felt when I really realized what happened. It was so tough. I can remember wanting it back so bad! It was even hard for me to see pics of my old self, Thank you so much for sharing this with me. There’s something about the feeling when someone really understands.. I am thankful you stopped by, and many hugs to you-Cristie

Great video. I had to have my right hand amputated two years ago due to bone cancer. I am 18 now and just graduated from high school. I have about two thirds of my forearm now, and last year I was fitted with a prosthetic arm to help me do thing easier. My arm is a myoelectric one, with a split hook, which doesn't look very lady like, but I find it is very functional. Life is good, and without my amputation, I would not have lived very much longer. I am used to people staring at my arm, but in the beginning it was tough have people doing that. Keep up the great videos, they are so helpful.

Oh my. Sweet lady. Thank you for sharing. “Move forward”. You made a choice and over time met the new you. Your smile is contagious. I have a genetic limb difference on both my hands. My mother was upset when I was born. My father said “you want me to get you another baby with perfect hands?”. It jolted my mom. She didn’t want another baby she wanted me. My mother helped me growing up. We are not very religious but she said “God made me special”. I didn’t feel special I just felt like me.
