Taking at 250 ml cup and assuming an aloe vera gel density of 1.2 g /ml (+/- 0.1) your formulation using 95 % IPA comes in lower than the recommended 70 % isopropanol content for hand sanitizer ...
I will try this as soon as I can find rubbing alcohol and aloe vera gel. Wondering how to carry it. Do you recommend a particular purse-size container?
I will definitely try this! This is really cool! It makes me believe you a lot more when you reference the WHO and I feel very confident this will work and I could achieve this.
I think the recommendation is for 70% isopropyl alcohol. I used 1 cup alcohol plus 1/2 cup aloe vera. 15 drops of an essential oil ... tea tree oil or other.
I recently read that 70% isopropyl alcohol is better than 90%.
World Health organization (WHO) has a recipe that uses the alcohol plus hydrogen peroxide.
I think its the entire mixture that needs to be 70% alcohol to be effective.
You always want to use 91% or 99% alcohol when making sanitizer. The alcohol content gets diluted when added to other ingredients. The CDC recommends the finished product should be at least 60% to effectively kill all harmful germs and bacteria.
I have these ingredients already at home so I will definitely try this!
No more rubbing alcohol anywhere...
These ingredients are no more available than hand sanitizer.
Get creative! I found some at the gas station....
What does the aloe vera gel do? Does it have disinfectant qualities?
No, it just gels the alcohol so it sticks to your hands and doesn't evaporate so quickly. It may have skin-soothing qualities to counteract the skin-drying action of the alcohol.
It keeps your hands from drying out due to the alcohol. Basically a moisturizer. The essential oil is just for scent.
It looks like your alcohol measurement was inaccurate. It definitely didn't look like 2 portions. Also you kept touching the inside of the bowl which isn't sanitary as your hands can easily contaminate your sanitizer mixture making it ineffective. We also never got to see what your finished product looks like. It would be ideal to show that so the viewers get an idea of what the color, texture and consistency should look like.
Made mine with 99% alcohol which my friend got for me . aloe vera gel 100% tea tree
Way too watery at those proportions
