This is a film that left an impact on a generation of filmmakers in the likes of Wes Anderson, Sofia Coppola, Alejandro G Inarritu and Alfonso Cuaron. It was a huge influence on Moonrise Kingdom and The Virgin Suicides. Surely it deserve so much more attention.

The scenes filmed in the cemetery when Melody(Tracy Hyde) and Danny(Mark Lester) are sat at the grave stones taliking about 'how long is 50yrs' is perfect. Alan Parker wrote a gem here and it can never be repeated as Waris say's. Of it's time and a demonstration of what has been lost. George Harrison(Beatles) said that the perfect record ever produced was River deep mountain high. Melody has to be in the same arena as far as fims are ranked. Perfect actors, perfect locations, perfect music and perfect cinematography just look for use of telephoto lenses when you watch the film, perfect. Well done to all involved.

This film was an introduction to my journey of the big screen. The experience was seeing the film at the oden in bolton. Also that led to the music of the bee gees ect., the songs, mark lester hair and locations have left unforgettable memories of a film from that moment in time.

The ultimate bromance movie before the word had ever been invented. The film is a work of art.

Fascinating interview! I love when Mark says filming Melody wasn't like work, but more like a holiday =).

I went to see this at the cinema when it came out. I always remembered it as SWALK. Gosh - 1971. I was 10.

My mom took me to see this movie when i was about 11. So, I identified with the movie a great deal. I fell in love with Tracy and I wanted to meet someone like her. I wanted to have a girlfriend. Of course, the music really made a mark in my mind. I thought it became like a music video. It is available on Amazon.

I am 66. And have this movie on CD. Watched it in 1971. I watched it ten times at the Odeon sneaked through the side doors of the picture house. Sealed with a loving kiss.S.WA.L.K.

This film was first to open the world of films to me. that experience was in odeon in bolton and that thread led me to the music of the bee gees. do remember the s.w.al.k. on the poster into the cinema. The hair of Mark Lester & songs during the film haven't me after all them later.

I watched this movie at the Odeon cinema when it was first released. I was a very small kid. Little did I know that several years later I would be going on holiday to Tenerife with one of the actors in this movie. Life is full of surprises!

This movie goes way back for me, so long I can’t recall if it was on t.v. (U.S.) or in the theater. I was in love with both Jack and Mark 💕

Like a lot of these BFI interview videos, the sound level is far too low and wants increasing by at least twice as much.

The fact that they "had" to have Jack and Mark as a "package deal" doesn't surprise me at all. Sheila, why would he be furious??? The rapport is obvious, and they made a great team on the screen!

The “PC” discussion near the end is interesting. I cried with laughter when the bomb finally worked & they blew the car up! That’s what makes this film so appealing - reminds us all of our schooldays. Most of us tried to make “bombs” & set fire to stuff, but we didn’t turn out to be terrorists...well, most of us didn’t, anyway!

I don't think I've ever seen a Sheila Steafel interview in which she makes even the slightest bit of sense. Completely hatstand.

darrenburnfan I think this impression was because it was discussed with Jack Wild in mind, and "Melody"was the movie they made together after Oliver! I have to give Mark kudos for moving on in a constructive manner with his osteopathy practice ☺
