Veg tanning leather takes 2 month max. Anyone can check some people talk about that in youtube and google.

I think you miss that many chrome-tan leathers get mislabelled as Oiltan... which is an entirely different process. Most products labelle "oiltan" are just chrometan leathers with lots of waxeds and oils fed into it.

There are vegetable tanned leather that is labelled oil tanned leather, pull-up leather and even crazy horse leather. Italian leather for instance is veg tanned calf leather that is literally an oil tanned pull up leather. Feels oily has pronounced pull up effect but is vegetable tanned. Depends on the brand you buy and what tannery it came from.

The best way I've found to guarantee how to tell if it's veg or chrome tan is to cut off a piece of leather about 1 inch long and half an inch wide then put it in boiling water. If it curls, it's veg tan. If it doesn't, it's chrome tan.

Very informative. Thank you. Can you tell me how veg tan or chrom tan related to anilin leather or pigment leather? I guess anilin or pigment leather are subcategory of chrom tan, am I right?

For identifying vegan tan and Crome tanned I find if you put a small piece of both in boiling water the veg tan will curl but the Crome will not. Not sure if this will apply to all types or not

Great video tutorial as usual..Thank you..any thoughts on oxidation patina techniques on veg tan leather ? Hydrogen peroxide, bleach, vinegar with iron oxide..all make different colors of patina finishes..by changing length of exposure time such as 5 seconds to 30 seconds different shades colors from London tan , brown, black finishes can be made, followed by a good leather conditioner afterwards to prevent damage and nourish the natural oils..

Generally the problem is that once you start messing with the PH balance of the leathers, it becomes very very unstable. All of the leathers I have tried vinagaroon on have peeled and cracked after 2-3 years.

@@Stevieboy7 true I have used peroxide on natural veg tan without problems..only seen other people use the others..guess it also depends on exposure time and after care and conditioners..most leather dyes contain high amounts of alcohol that really dries out the leather unless you use a conditioner afterwards..

Hi I have some questions for a major project I would like to work on. Is there an email or somewhere I can send a picture of a leathered covered art piece and ask some questions.
