      I still have one case like that. But inside is quite modern hardware. Its a Backplane with a PCISA SBC with a Core2Duo CPU.
      The first one I got like 17 years back from the trash had some really interesting hardware inside. Was a board with NexGen CPU. Maybe you know that stuff. But I've sold that already... can't keep everything...

    That is the coolest AT cabinet I have seen. Depending on what you want to use it for (media player, gaming machine or a ordinary computer) You can restore it back to original state, go latest tech or go simple with a Raspberry Pi. Many choices. Just remember to make a video series of the build 👍🏻

    I know it’s a huge amount more work, but it’d be great to have you give a quick history of the hardware and why it’s special/significant to you. I’ll keep watching regardless, It’s so cool seeing the Hardware I lusted after back in my Teens. Thank you RETRO 😊

    Hi, this is really nice restoration, but please note one thing. The wiring are done wrong, you have replaced the + and i - on the speakers, that's why the lower frequencies are bad. When you turn the balance to the right speaker the bass is ok. The same for the only left speaker. You need to unsolder the wire on the left speaker and replace + with - wire and solder it again and the sound will be even better. Regards.

    • @RETROHardware
      @RETROHardware  5 років тому +11

      Thanks for notification. Wiring is like original. Both blacks on - and coloured on +. You can check in 5:32. I will try replace it handly on PCB with external cons. You right with balance. Thanks for this.

      Both are 4ohms which means load is the same. There's no such thing as "struggling"...

    • @RETROHardware
      @RETROHardware  4 роки тому +4

      @JAzzy: yep
      Actual info: I tried change +/- on this "angry" speaker and nothing. So I switched sides L/P and problem run to other speaker = some problem is with amplifier. Need check all components on amp PCB.

    • @Ojref1
      @Ojref1 4 роки тому +3

      A couple of thoughts on this, 4 ohm 10W speakers are rated for 2x the power of your original 5 W, so they probably take more power to drive in lower frequencies, hence if you have an amp that was designed around 4 ohm 5 watt max load its probably not going to be very effective at driving those. Also, if you reverse polarity on one set of speakers, it can effectively cancel out the other side, reducing lower frequency, but this doesn't seem to be the case. It would be a pretty easy thing to upgrade the amp on that unit anyway. :)

    • @meaninthemirror
      @meaninthemirror 4 роки тому +2

      Try to change and increase main filter capacitor(s) on amp's power unit (if exists) or where the ps cables connected on amp's pcb. Otherwise I would suspect on tone control unit and sealing of the loudspeaker room.

  • @BoomBox02
    @BoomBox02 4 роки тому +1

    I love these old cases. One thing i noticed when you adjusted the balance from left to right was that you got more bass when only one speaker was playing then when both speakers played the bass died down. You may have to swap around the negative and positive speaker cables on one of the speakers to fix the issue. When i started installing car stereos i would always wire the wrong cable up to the terminal resulting in low bass when both speakers played and a pounding bass when i played the left or right speaker only. Sometimes the marking on the speaker or cable dont match up resulting in what i use to call a negative bass effect.

      wow, within 20mins I already got a like, It never happened to me. LOL Those built-in speakers , those volumes meters, all the audio settings in the bottom, the turbo button, the mhz display , the multi cd, i mean WOW !!!!! did I forget something ? NICE RESTORATION !!! I just recently ordered some nice pieces to assemble an at-pc running Windows 95 OSR2,a Fujitsu 10gig HDD ,ATC-1000 motherboard which can be set from 75mhz up to 200mhz, Intel pentium 1(166mhz) socket 7 with a heatsink + fan already installed with 32 mb Ram and a Gainward Dragon 4000 Voodoo Banshee Pci which has a heatsink+fan with a Soundblaster Vibra 16 (or maybe Ess1938) all in a very big tower with a 3 digit display ,turbo button and both floppy drives (3.5 and 5.25) I/O card for a Mouse in the printer port and some AT keyboard. I already have a power supply Enermax E200P-U along with a CD-Rom drive and a USRobotics 56.k pci modem. Yes !! I intend to use some Dial-up connection and try to download some file with the program called 'GetRight' which is one of the first program to Resume a download. You know ,that dark era when you would try to download whatever you wanted to download BUT someone in your family tried to use the phone and they got LOUD NOISES instead while your download just aborted !! You would have to restart that 1 hour download !! There was GetRight and later Download Accelerator, You could also create a queue list of downloads you want, something Internet Explorer or Netscape etc... didnt offer yet. Those programs would activate as soon as a download start ,it would start in let's say, GetRight and the best thing was a female voice saying things like : 'Starting to download ' or 'Your file is done' Recorded in .Wav at very low quality!! I must be insane right? I can't wait to receive all the pieces of the puzzle!! Meanwhile your video is like everything I would want in a PC . PERIOD

      @roysourboy4380 4 роки тому

      Just the amount of Mhz displays or turbo button setups you have YOU ROCK SIR !!! I installed one in my Packard Bell Legend 125 and I'm waiting for an Intel overdrive to bring from Intel 486SX 25mhz to Intel Overdrive486dx2 66mhz with heatsink so I will have atleast 2 Ms-dos setups to fool around doing benchmarks and while my plan was to only upgrade the processor of the packard bell, look now, I really ordered a lot of stuff to assemble a 'brand new' tower that back then in 1992 I could not even ask my parents to buy it, my dad said it was too expensive and my friends had those nice computers with turbo buttons LUL !!!!! Just a mhz display is like how life is meant to be!!! When I had my first Pc , i was 15 , in 1998 and it was a celeron 333mhz(no turbo or mhz display) with a diamond viper v550 and FF7 was laggy :P but overall was satisfied with other games and emulators. I could play AvP but there was a bug just before the game load the mission. You would have to press SpaceBar really quick or else the loading would crash the game and for me IT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO PLAY AVP !! At that time I knew atleast 2 friends who had better PCs with Voodoo3 and man FF7 and AVP was SMOOTH on a Voodoo3 !!

    That is a BEAUTIFUL AT case! Love it!! Not sure which mobo/CPU to vote for (I like them all) but I vote against installing the EWS64 module because I really like the front panel as it is now with both types of floppy drives and the CD changer. I see you've got both soundcards I have in my own retro PC's - the CT3670 in my Slot 1 rig and CT3780 in my Super Socket 7. I also vote for sandblasting and repainting the metal part of the case so it'll look really nice. It looks challenging to spot-repair well. I think I'm gonna go play with my desktop rig now! It's an AMD K6-2+ 550 setup built inside a new-old-stock beige desktop case. It's not as fancy looking as your case but everything is really nice and clean which is important to me.

    Interesing design of such pc case, very rare because of all the electronics inside and the controls. The sound comes comes from audigy LINE OUT correct? not audigy speaker out.

    MY OPINION: This case is definately for home multimedia PC. On your desktop you have conventional hardware as well as workstation components. Matrox, S3 Vision comes from workstations, dual pentium comes from workstation/server. If you think to restore this pc as non-MMX home multimedia pc I recommend you go with single cpu socket5 or 7. Also voodoo cards my best bet to use them in MMX system to get them full potential in 3D. Either pentium 75-133 (socket5) + s3 trio64/tseng et6000 or MMX setup 166-233(socket7) + voodoo1. If you think of mmx I strongly recommend HX/TX chipsets. In one of my high-end Pentium 1 builds I am using: Shuttle HOT 569, MMX233, Matrox Millenium 1, Canopus Pure3D. 64MB (max cachable anyway). thanks for consideration

    I like this alot. Do you have a Pentium 120mhz? It was an oddball frequency for budget systems. Your collection is amazing. Thank you for the videos.

    Hi, great video. I'd urge you to look at a Socket 7 with a 430/439 HX Chipset. Gigabyte HX 2.0 was an excellent Socket 7board. I currently run a AMD K6-3+ on a Tyan S1590 for Super Socket 7 but if I was doing it again I'd go for the HX and maybe MMX 233.

    Fastest at board/chip combo of course, 1 vote for pentium 133 since I had one way back when.

    Hmm. maybe socket 5, s3 video, and sb16 with dream board. Or, socket 7, matrox millenium/mystique + Voodoo1, awe or EWS.

    Great video! :D I love this case :) It's also a bit difficult to know what type of hardware to put in. When looking at your case as it is built now, I can't immediately associate it to either a 386, 486 or early pentium. But the case is more cozy then high end to me. Or It's cozy to high end. I think I would try to make it into a 486 machine. Then the cd-rom changer, as awesome as it is, be to modern. Perhaps I would install a dx4 100mhz with awe32. Perhaps you can also install a soundblaster 16 along side the awe32? But you just got to look at the machine and let the design tell you what hardware it should have.

      s7 P1 133-166 will be fine. Sound is big question but some SB + wavemodule mabye. I don’t have Gravis or other beast like this.

    Awesome Case, i love the volume indicators. There are Socket 370 AT mainboards. Would use one of them along with a Tualatin PIII. Then you could run XP or Linux and use it as a music center :)

      I have a Socket370 AT board but it can't cope with Tualatin PIII. Can you give me the model of the mainboard

      @@TheotanyaSama Almost every Socket 370 board that supports Coppermine PIII will work, for example the PCCHIPS M755LMR.
      To install a Tualatin, you will need a Tualatin Adapter that is basically a socket that connects to the socket build on the board. The tualatin then goes into the socket that makes it cope with non-tualatin chipsets. These adapters are hard to get, but you can also hack the build in socket as shown on these pictures:
      www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=39993&p=534289#p534289
      This is some work, but it might be worth it. It seems like all you have to do is open the socket, desolder a few pins and bridge other pins with wire. The shown part is a slotket but it works with mainboards as well. I have used a hacked board myself and it runs stable. It wasnt a Tualatin hack, but rather a Pentium III-S Server CPU to desktop socket 370 hack. It is done almost exactly the same.

    Nice. A key question. Does the turbo button affect Pentium processors? Turbo botton slow down old processors but i dunno if can handle pentiums, and positive case, does turbo slow down pentium enought to play early ms-dos games?? I have a similar proyect in stand by, aprecciate yours anwers.
