  • Here you'll find out how to jump-start a Hybrid Vehicle. In this video I jump-start a 2014 Ford C-Max Hybrid SEL. Note that the main battery to power up the car is located in the trunk area. I might make a video on how to change it if someone is interested.

Just what I needed. I called a serviceman at a Ford Dealership and he had no idea of the positive copper electrode that you used, that has a plastic cover. He just kept telling me the battery was in the back. UA-cam is the answer.

I actually own a C-Max. They have a battery saver system that stops the computer from "booting up" so C-Max wont start. All you have to do is have a donor battery to start a C-Max. No need for engine running, max out AC, etc. That's all traditional things you do to get a regular car to jump start. No need in a C-max.
Drive donor vehicle to close proximity of C-max. Shut donor vehicle OFF. Hook up red jumper cables to C-max positive jump start terminal under red cap. Hook up black jumper cable to ground post. Start C-Max. Disconnect battery cables. Recover positive jump terminal. Yes it's that easy.
C-Max like to go dead battery as way too much computer control in Hybrid. Don't drive it = dead battery. I bought one of these so I can jump start my own C-max without the need for a donor car to jump me. Can recharge tablet, laptop, cellphone, etc. also.

Thank you. I didn't know that it was setup so that you could jump the 12-volt in the back through the hood. To trickle charge my 12-volt with my Schumacher Speed Charge, it is okay to also use the positive & ground under the hood? If I wanted to hook it up directly to the 12-volt in the back, where is the negative ground?

Not sure about this, but I would assume that when you can jump-start from there, you also should be able to trickle charge. For the negative ground in the back I would just look for any metal from the body, like a screw or nut.

I was told by the dealer that the cmax cannot be jumped and that it would damage the vehicle. It looks like that is false when bypassing electrical system correct?

The cmax can be jumped the same way any regular car can be jumped. Check your owners manual, it's in there. I don't know why your dealer told you that you couldn't...maybe they want to sell you a new battery??.

I was told the C-Max could be jumped from the rear of the car.?

I guess You could, but it would be a lot more work to get to the battery.

The problem with Cmax is that while parked many of them periodically die for no reason and just a micro boost will “un-lock” them and make them functional again. Nobody knows the cause. And a true design idiocy is that once dead there is no way to open the trunk or to lock the doors !!! Even high school pupils of the Balkans could not believe that an engineer with a mechanical degree could have designed and have approved such an aberration.

I agree with you, our trunk liftgate was broken once and there was no way to manually open it. Pretty much was a useless trunk for some time.

Just use the hidden key inside the FOB to lock and unlock your doors when power is out.

@@richmukasa6069 Too late ! The transmission went bad, mechanic said can’t fix it, Ford dealer asked 8k, i said ok and they still refused to do it saying “not worth it”. Never in my life i would purchase US made car. Either TOYOTA or … bicycle. (My neighbor Toyota Prius 2006 with 305 k miles, battery changed for free at 156 k and no repairs other than maintenance - fluids and brake pads).

@Anonymousbyproxy That must of been a pain. Your trans went out due to fluid loss. There is a TSB on this peticular issue where the gasket used in the trans deteriorate and starts to lose fluid. I was able to catch it prior to any damage luckily. Found out that I was a quart low. Been monitoring it and she's been riding like a charm.
