    Great video Sam. Glad you did the dust shield you had me worried for a moment. I started tidying the chassis on mine. It’s it good condition but put neutraliser and then lanoblack on it. Had a fight getting the rear bumper off, torx bolts rusted in but no bother as the mounts had rusted away anyway! Hardly anything holding it on and I suspect lots of them in the same condition. I’ve been welding and fabricating non stop for two weekends now and it was only supposed to take one day!!!!

    There is a complex process to bleed the brakes and there is three bleed nipples on the block. You will not have full brakes using this method

    • @neilpocock5142
      @neilpocock5142 9 місяців тому

      Agree with the above. In Rave there is quite a specific procedure for brake bleeding. Not sure that this method will correctly bleed the brake valve block ( not ideal on a 2.5t vehicle ).

    • @SamsMotors
      @SamsMotors  9 місяців тому

      I’ve seen that long procedure listed in Rave. The method I used seems to have worked but I’ll monitor the pedal feel and see if it needs doing by the book. Cheers 🍻

    Check the map sensor piping and sensor itself for the power issue sam.
    Although driving a mapped L322 everyday will definitely make the standard p38 seem really slow anyway.
    Also buy a ron box and fit it before going the engine swap route, it makes an immense differance to power and mpg when set to the right settings.

  • @georgimihalkov4781
    @georgimihalkov4781 9 місяців тому +2

    Great job with the breaks, they look better than new! It would be amazing if someone could develop a M57B30 swap kit for the P38. That engine feels great in the E53 X5 and it would transform those old Range Rovers.

    There is a full bleed procedure on the P38 which should followed, from memory there are three bleed nipples on the master, the full procedure can be found on line, there is a full video on UA-cam. ua-cam.com/video/AHDU5DPjV4o/v-deo.htmlsi=NueQqS1Yll_PezKT
    Missing power, have you reconnectd the vacum line that lives on the underside of the inlet manifold, will have reduced power if not connected.

    • @richardschofield2201
      @richardschofield2201 9 місяців тому

      As I understand the bleed procedure on the P38 is pretty important.
      I swapped my accumulator without bleeding. Works fine, but I suspect it's squishier than it was.
      Add it to the list.

    • @chrisgreenwood271
      @chrisgreenwood271 9 місяців тому

      @@richardschofield2201 you just need to depressurize the master when changing the accumulater, pump pedal something like 14 times. Symptoms for when it needs changing are usually, overly high fluid level when it's not running and the boost pump kicking in every time the pedal is pushed, plus long duration of the pump running on initial start up. Changing mine sorted all of the above.

  • @ernestgodden

    I have had both M51 non EGR and EGR versions of the P38 recently. The non EGR version with the metal intake manifold seems to be way more powerful. Just brought one back onto the road after 7 years.
    Nice to see people realising that these cars are becoming future classics!

    • @SamsMotors
      @SamsMotors  9 місяців тому

      I expect the non EGR one has suffered a lot less premature wear from not having to ingest soot it’s whole life!

    • @ernestgodden
      @ernestgodden 9 місяців тому

      @@SamsMotors Mine was firing proper sooty clouds of smoke out the back once it was at full boost. I've heard they can clog up the charge coolers. I didn't drain mine but I suspect its been chipped, as all that power blew out any built up soot in there!
      I think a decent tune is necessary on these cars!

    If the P38 has been standing unused for a while, is smoking on acceleration ( black or brown smoke) and down on power, then I would suggest the injectors. If it’s blue smoke though, I would almost certainly check the turbo, after first checking the compression. Another great video, thanks.

    Nice work there.. I would keep an eye out for the abs accumulator.. if the pump kicks back in after 1 or 2 pump of the pedal you should definitely change.
