Your videos are what got me into finally starting 3d printing. I've been growing exceptionally quickly and am just now starting my first big print with everyone's favourite two-headed big demon chicken! Thank you so much for doing what you're doing mate!
You sir make some of the best 3d printing content on UA-cam. You're editing style and commentary is so satisfying. Your information is super helpful, and you're not afraid to tell us about the flaws about a product. thank you :)
I think the metallic silver to gold trick was showcased by Eons of Battle when they painted up some Custodes - not a drop of gold was sued but they all turned out looking great. Great video! You've earned a sub from myself and I think DMG Minis will also be getting some of my support in the near future!
First off, selling Combat Patrol-equivalent mini sets is clever and useful. Second, I am 100% on board for Aztec-themed Thousand Sons. Those look great!
The day a 3d printer just works out of the box without a ridiculous amount of tweaking settings, print failures, and troubleshooting is the day I'll finally get one.
lol watching you chop away at the build plate to get models off was a flashback. I know its a demo but id still slap a magnetic plate on there. Love the vid
Cool video, thanks. Quick point on tightening the 4 bolts on the leveling plate. Bolts loosen, in an environment with vibrations, due to tiny lateral movments at intefaces in the bolted connection. Rather than banging the bolts as tight as you can get them, and risking stripping the treads, just take out the washers. This removes an interface in the bolted connection that supports vibartion loosening. The washers will be there to spread the load from under the bolt head across the hole the bolt goes through. I'd be surprised if they are needed.
The Video is very entertaining and I like the introduction of a smaller but very talented Designer once more. What is bit biased in my opinion is the "review" about the Halo Mage Pro. Several other Content Creators are very unsatisfied about the printer, also the reviews from buyers are not the best. I don't know what to think of it.
Thanks for your comment, I haven't watched other reviewers videos about this printer yet so I'm not really sure what everyone is unhappy about. For me I'm hesitant to get super into the weeds on printers, as all I care about is how easy or hard does it make for me to get miniatures on the table. So for me I just want to highlight what works, what's easy, what's frustrating, and what's broken. This printer had some quirks for sure, but the workflow was pretty standard otherwise and it did what it was supposed to do without any major hurdles. For the price there's no way I'd be unhappy with the unit I received, it's a solid printer and I would happily send prints to this thing all day every day.
3D printing truly is wondrous. Just a few days ago I printed out a nearly 1-1 Daemon Prince Angron at 140% size and all it cost me was $20 of resin compared to GW's absolutely absurd price. The amount of money 3D printing has saved in just a year is unreal.
Has anyone tried the gold metallic look with silver base and speedpaint with a contrast paint from GW? Tried it but wasn't really impressed. Jay from Eons of Battles does something similar in his video where he paints a Custodes Kill Team, but he uses an airbrush and an orange acrylic ink from Daler Rowney.
Amazing videos as always. The wait between these is a bit long, but so worth it in the end. Thank you for keeping the production level so high!! About Creality printers, I have one that I haven't used in a while because it has a "factory problem", the LD 002H. The UV LED array needs a 24v input, but their PSU has a 27v output so _everything_ gets overexposed, no matter how low you set your layer time (I've been printing at 1s and some details don't show up). I've tried wiring a voltage resistance or something like that, but for some reason, it doesn't work when I set it to 24V... I left it in a room gathering dust and bought an Anycubic Mono 4k. PS: In spanish, beetle is "escarabajo" like you said "escaraba" but with a "ho" at the end like "horse".
If you tighten the bolts. Your ambient temperature must be the same all the time. If your printer heats up its enclosure by some degree you might need to re-adjust no matter how tight you make the screws. Happend to me when I was printing at ~15°C. While printing, the temperature in the enclsure reached above 20°C and I allways had to re-level.
I've been doing the same thing by printing all the different armies, you wouldn't believe how many creators make spot on or pretty similar bundles for combat patrol. I just found out about chad hoverter thousand sons bundle the other day, very nice designs ! I am thinking of getting either the elegoo saturn 3 or a creality.
I had issues with my swingy door printer getting stuck with resin after it spills. Not really a fan anymore, but it might get better with a new printer I can try it on since I won't be making as many mistakes.
Damn that music at the end gave me goosebumps, was getting into it before it got copyrighted. Now I will have to go and find the complete track. Trying to convince wife I need a Xmas present on an Anycubic Photon mono 2, thanks to one of your other vids. In fact all your vids are lighting a fire in me, not only 3D printing but videoing and music.
Incredible production as usual! Sorry I haven’t been on discord. Keep it up I will reach out soon! Love that I am on top and I want to keep it that way$$😂😂😂😂
The Dynax printing mode sounds amazing. Reviews around UA-cam are a mixed bag though, some saying that it decreased print quality or led to failed supports. I guess it depends on the STL, but 1/5 the time sounds worth trying! I first heard about that gold painting method from Eons of Battle’s Custodes video. They use an orange ink over metallic silver.
On the subject of ventilating the printer in cold weather, I don't think you should be ventilating while the machine is running. Wait till the print has finished, then run the ventilator.
lol, even i am not interested in 3d-printers at all, the video was so interesting i listened and watched everything. very interesting guest, nice painting and even some cool music :D Thats definitly a different way to present hobby content.
It's interesting that you prefer the ball-joint plate system and dislike the auto-fill resin pump, since all other reviewers crow about those features.
Yeah I can't understand other reviewers complaints about the spring loaded ball joint. I think it's bloody brilliant, and so long as you tighten those bolts down nice and snug they hold level for ages.
That Jayo or Sunlu ABS like (same shit) is my new favourite for minis. I bought a bottle because it was cheap and I wanted to try something new but God damn it holds up and the supports come off easy with minimal pockmarks.
For real though, bare handing the dirty IPA with the newspaper to catch at least some of the spillage... it's not crazy toxic but you really don't want some random plastic allergy to pop up
Always top quality videos and the interview with Chad was like the other artists a real plus compared to other YT channels. Hope you have plans with other artists. As for the gold, Trovarion on YT uses a Vallejo metallic (silver or chrome, not sure) and then applies a mix of inks (yellow and brown range).
DMG minis are great . i bought some of the silver wardens over covid they came out great .. Do you still do paid private supporting for people , for big models ?
mice and mystics was the best! crazy...and happy to see a new video. after watching your videos it made it a whole lt easier to buy a printer and give it a go. id like to see you work with Mezgike as some point, his sculpts are unreal. cheers
After reading the feature set of the 3d printer, The splashing that's happening is due to pulling out the resin pump. Apparently it moderates the level of resin required for a print to prevent splashes when printing at high speeds. Still should be able to be accounted for when removing the pump but it's worth noting.
Fundamentally, the splashing happens because the platform raises all the way to the top, rather than a small distance above the vat. This is because for some reason, they decided to put the home sensor at the top of the build plate rather than the bottom like every other manufacturer. I gave them this feedback on their first printer, and they never listened to it :(
Interesting idea. For me the splash all over the door happened after my very first print where Dynax was turned off and the printer was incredibly slow at every step of the print with the exception of the lift speed at the very end, and because my print was a super short calibration part the whole build plate was still submerged below the resin line when the last layer finished. If you look closely at 0.35 too you can see those drips on the door start from waaaay up high which is not what you would expect from droplets falling and splashing in the vat. I should probably make a short or something recreating this
@@OnceinaSixSide Your theory makes sense, but I don't think it's right because for people who do run their printers at very high speeds where the piece is constantly being removed from the resin/vat quickly, they don't really experience the same level of splashing I have the Halot One and the splashes are above the build plate, despite the printer having a slow lift speed after the print - I think it's because of how viscous/dense the resin is. The quick lift definitely doesn't help though, because the faster it lifts the more residual resin there is to drop off the plate and cause splashing
Hey, Sixside. I really like your channel. It has been very helpful in getting my resin 3d printer and curing setup and learning about supports. But I needed it for printing references in the machine shop and calligraphy plates for engraving on a pantograph. …I also wanted to cast components to make a pantograph. I know UA-cam’s algorithm wants creators to stay in their lane. But I don’t know if UA-cam considers yours a 3d printing channel or a miniatures channel. If it’s not in the cards it’s not in the cards. But I really like your video work and would very much appreciate some more technical projects.
Thanks for the video. Question to everyone: has anyone tried using LocTite on the leveling bolts? Would there be a good reason not to try? LocTite comes in both medium hold and strong hold variety; the medium hold is designed for bolts that the user could remove in the future. I don't think the strong hold would be appropriate but I've never heard of anyone trying the medium hold.

Awesome to hear man, good luck on your demon chicken!
legally distinct demon chicken !
How did it turn out ?
You sir make some of the best 3d printing content on UA-cam. You're editing style and commentary is so satisfying. Your information is super helpful, and you're not afraid to tell us about the flaws about a product. thank you :)
Cheers!
Couldn't agree more. If anyone ever asks about 3D printing I always send your videos. I always look forward to your new videos.
That's quite pricy for an 8k printer nowadays.
Like you can get Saturn 3 for the same price, and it's a 12k machine.
Comparing resolutions past 4k doesn't matter really. What really matters is the pixel resolution, which here is 30 microns.
BTW: a white blood cell is 25 microns, a human hair is about 70 microns. Really anything smaller than 40 microns isn't even visible to the human eye.
These videos are really tempting to get into 3d printing. You should do a video in lines of "everything you need to get started" for new comers.
That gold speed paint tip is from Eons of Battle! From their custodes video.
Love them.
I have been using a window scraper to remove my prints, works like a charm.
I think the metallic silver to gold trick was showcased by Eons of Battle when they painted up some Custodes - not a drop of gold was sued but they all turned out looking great.

Mixing the copper with the gold metal color paints was Vince Venturella and the exact method you mentioned was Jay from Eons of Battle i think
Love your videos man. They got me printing and painting
The day a 3d printer just works out of the box without a ridiculous amount of tweaking settings, print failures, and troubleshooting is the day I'll finally get one.
Genuinely some of the best content on UA-cam. Production value, entertainment, honesty, comedy, it's all here in spades.
lol watching you chop away at the build plate to get models off was a flashback. I know its a demo but id still slap a magnetic plate on there. Love the vid
Damn dude the production value in this video!!! Fantastic presentation!
Wow, what a chad for sponsoring this video
DMG Minis have some of my favorite silver bois. This video is whats gonna push me to finish getting his set!
That Tenacious D reference didn't go unnoticed *or* unappreciated, good sir!
Cool video, thanks.

These interview vids are great for us noobs who are crash course playing catchup. Plus you are another bloody Aussie.
Holy hell those are some amazing looking models! Great job on the paint job as well!

A fair review of the printer, well done explaining the good and bad. As for the designer, interesting hearing their backstory and career.
more 3d sculptors need to add the correct bases to their presupported models. it would help SO MUCH with snapped legs and feet and shit.
The cones of calibration should be printed vertically, not horizontally. printing horizontally screws the results pretty hard.
3D printing truly is wondrous. Just a few days ago I printed out a nearly 1-1 Daemon Prince Angron at 140% size and all it cost me was $20 of resin compared to GW's absolutely absurd price. The amount of money 3D printing has saved in just a year is unreal.

incredible video dude, really love the quality you put into producing this. you seriously deserve more recognition!
I’m definitely picking these up to go along with my other seven combat patrols.

Fantastic video man, been loving the halot, glad to see it stands up with the experts as well
Thumbs up for the silliness with the tube alone 😂
Jay from Eons of Battle often does the orange over silver for a nice gold. That might have been where you saw it
Oh yeah I forgot I learned it from him
its a weird feeling seeing a thumbnail of a bunch of minis ive already printed. DMG is an icon!
fuck me , the production value is skyrocketting video after video , once again (in a six side) you're doing marvels Mister J !
I wonder what gm will do when 3rd printers are more commercially utilized
I've been doing the same thing by printing all the different armies, you wouldn't believe how many creators make spot on or pretty similar bundles for combat patrol. As somebody who has a decent printer and wants to start Thousand Sons this is relevant to my interests.
After seeing what DMG did for Grey Knights and 1K sons, I wish he do the line of Death Guard. He'd make them look so amazing!
Damn that music at the end gave me goosebumps, was getting into it before it got copyrighted. Now I will have to go and find the complete track. Tip for gold: Metallic Gold Sharpie.
Incredible production as usual! Sorry I haven’t been on discord. Keep it up I will reach out soon! Love that I am on top and I want to keep it that way$$😂😂😂😂
Surprised that AIR paint doesnt cover much when used with a brush. Great UA-cam Content right here!
great video man, I love your interview style
Super good timing! I’m just starting a 1k sons army :D
oh damn, I'm gonna have to remember that gold technique
After you video I went with the non “pro” version. Will be doing a few prints over the wknd

I first heard about that gold painting method from Eons of Battle’s Custodes video. They use an orange ink over metallic silver.
I use Liquidtex inks like burnt umber or raw umber over silver to get a nice gold.. your minis look great
Your experience here is the only thing that has ever made me consider resin printing. Very cool to see
On the subject of ventilating the printer in cold weather, I don't think you should be ventilating while the machine is running. Wait till the print has finished, then run the ventilator.
Man I love this channel so much
Good job sir! You always produce top tier content
Hey friend, great video. I plan to pick up those bird men soon.
I mean you could buy 5 combat patrols for the price of the printer
lol, even i am not interested in 3d-printers at all, the video was so interesting i listened and watched everything. very interesting guest, nice painting and even some cool music :D Thats definitly a different way to present hobby content.

If the post print slift apeed is too high you can change that with gcode, you dont need a firmware fix.
What airbrush compressor do you use??

How did you manage to print straight bases? Mine are all warped always
Your videos make me consider getting into 40k since I allready print stuff for bloodbowl.
Btw, my choice for gold is the Scale 75 Copper.
Always top quality videos and the interview with Chad was like the other artists a real plus compared to other YT channels.

DMG minis are great . i bought some of the silver wardens over covid they came out great ..
Do you still do paid private supporting for people , for big models ?
I love your production, great video
Ah cheers! Right back at you good sir.

I really like that gold recipe
Are replacements for that carbon filter available?
Thanks for the video.

LocTite comes in both medium hold and strong hold variety; the medium hold is designed for bolts that the user could remove in the future. I don't think the strong hold would be appropriate but I've never heard of anyone trying the medium hold.
Do not do this. If you ever need to relevel (every time the FEP is replaced), you are screwed.
@@alexfrantz8389 Even with just the medium hold formula? Okay 👍 thanks for the reply, I'll avoid the LocTite.

I did like the comment about manufacturer apps, more often the UI for these apps is terrible and results in a crappy UX, don't let interns or Larry from the mail room make the app. Also why do we have to have endure advertising everywhere, I mean now we have ads playing at the petrol station's fuel pump, look for screens in the loo next. Thank you!
Thanks for your feedback :) Yeah I can understand your disappointment, but honestly for me it's not about covering every last detail of these machines, I just want to print miniatures and figure out how much the machine helps or hinders me in this regard. Superfluous features like in this case a pump that adds unnecessary complexity to the machine, and extra work to clean up when changing resins or pulling out the vat just seems like a headache to me and not worth the fuss.
I have Chad Chadingtons Grey knights, they are really nice.
Try GW contrast leather over a bright silver metalic then dapple a little bit of Army Painter greedy gold over it and see what you think of that.
why don't people use 'loctite' for build plate screws
