    Please note that the power source should be disconnected & the compressor should be isolated with no wiring connected while testing continuity or resistance. When checking amperage, the power must be on for the compressor to start. Thank you all for watching & commenting!

    3 phase motors don't have a common, start, or run terminals.
    All 3 phases are energized at the same time, and the motor rotor "chases" the phases around the stator.

      Yeah Einstein, anyone of us that has been in HVAC tech school or a service tech that learned OTJ knows that. Your C, R and S terminals on a PSC compressor are all three energized at the same time too.

    Great Video. Thank you for sharing. What's voltages 3 phase inverter compressor use 120 V or 208 V or 240 V ? Is this compressor come from VRF Muti V condenser unit ?

    Below 30 megaohms is not always an indication of a failed compressor. I can only speak of knowledge specifically a Copeland. AE BULLETIN 1294 covers this topic. A Copeland scroll can have a megg reading of 0.5 megaohms and still be an operational compressor. A lot of other factors also contribute to a low megg reading....temp, moisture, contamination....a better way to look at a megg reading is if it goes up...then starts going back down. You should also use the PI ( Polarization Index ) or DAR ( Die Electric Absorption Ratio ) tests, they are a timed tests and produce a ratio based on sampling meggs at different intervals.
    Im not saying that compressor wasn't failed. Just wanted to share a little info.

      Anything below 250,000 ohms indicates the compressor needs to be replaced from what I learned in school.

  • @chrissipple1018
    @chrissipple1018 9 місяців тому +1

    I have always read that you never check a inverter dc motor with a megohm meter. It does not mater what size the inverter motor is, there all 3 phase windings.

    I have a question. I have this compressor, a spiral condenser, a water regulating valve, and 2 txv. I saw something strange that I didn't understand. When I started the system the whole compressor was hot and the receiver was cold including the liquid line by the filter. The bottom txv was frosting at the outlet side just a bit and after a few seconds I saw it instantly melt away. The compressor made a funny sound and the suction pressure when up from 6psi to 60 psi. I'm a new tech so this is all new to me. Why do you think that would happen? I think there's a blockage in the system and I was close to witnessing my first liquid flood back. Do you think there's air in the system? Possibly both?

    • @agostinhomartins8373
      @agostinhomartins8373 9 місяців тому

      Possibly a blockage or maybe overcharged. Did you get an amp reading from start up?

    • @LC-qi5ff
      @LC-qi5ff 9 місяців тому +1

      No but if there is a lot of liquid in compressor it can give a false reading in megger test

    3 phase doesn’t have a start and run winding

    • @jasonjohnsonHVAC
      @jasonjohnsonHVAC 9 місяців тому

      And VRF always labels them U,V,W....its all the same thing in essence. It is misleading calling it a start and run winding. They have different resistance values....hence why a capacitor is used.

    Enjoy watching your videos. However i would encourage to to do a little more research, may be judt a vocabulary thing.
    When you check the resistance of the motor winding that will give you a resistance value in ohms it also is telling you whether you have continuity or not, essentially they are one in the same.
    Another thing to mention is that when dealing with a 3 phase motor you DO NOT have a start, common and run windings.
