I hear lots of students using "elder", but not in the same way that native speakers do.
When students use "elder" instead of "older", it can sound awkward and unnatural.
In this vide, I'll teach you the natural way to use "elder" and "older".

Hello Jennifer, so, in my country there's a term we use for elderly people, is third age people. But we respect them a lot. I respect them, some that don't respect there elders.
I always be funny in front of them and l have a grandpa his health is not that good 2 years ago he had an attack so, l walk with him in my garden.
And my parents too told me to respect elders.
Elderly people get a free bus cards in my country and l think it helps them.

I mean we have more and more elder people in the world. Respectful interaction is one of the keys to living friendly and helpful which each other.
But what is an elder person? You can see that the President is elder but he is in the best age. You can find more and more employees work until 70 years old. We change nowadays, lifetime and healthy eating is the new key to say I am not elder as you with 40odd years.

unfortunately, I never met my elder's parents, they died before I was born, all of them. Thanks, because I usually exchanged elder and older when I was talking about my children, I used to say My older son is a better swimmer than my younger daughter but my elder daughter is a better runner than my younger son. More or less I'd say in this form. Now I have my brain working out in these words.

My girlfriend looks like older than me.
I always use to be polite with elders and wherever and whenever I meet them facing trouble then I help them as respecting senior citizens such as if somewhere she or he(elders) is unable to carry their heavy bags then I offer my help to them.

In India we are used to living in a joint family and it may be a large joint family in some places. Elderly people usually don't go out after the age of fifty or sixty. They are given a ride or a drive when needed by their son or grand children or driver .They love to walk within a kilometre area and chatting with which one they catch free .they love to watch news channels and ratroes.. They are told to avoid very long distance journeys alone however they don't especially in my caste. Copessengers help them a lot. We can't imagine an Indian family without any elder one. The idea of old age is not accepted here
