You're welcome! Both sentences are correct, but "I suggested that you buy it" is more concise and sounds more natural in everyday English.
We make similar mistakes like,call me, message me.
Explain (it to) me. He recommended me. Talk to me is ok..
You have to learn specific structures for specific verbs. You CAN say "call me" and "message me".

You are the only teacher I've found on the internet who explained to me when I can use "recommend me" i.e. "I AM the recommendation" and "I am a person who is given the recommendation" . Could you confirm that I am on the right way? Can I say : "Tom recommended me to his friends for being their housekeeper", " Tom recommended (that) I be the housekeeper in his friend' s home" ?
