I love how they showed Eren's anger in this scene in an almost realistic way. He never dodges, he always puts his entire strength and weight into his attacks and most importantly EVERY attack was meant as a killing blow. Even when he goes down he gets right back up swinging and when he gets hurt he ignores it. He had a lot of openings to either grab her or aim for the body but in his anger he only aimed for "maximum damage". Not only is this scene completely awesome animation-wise but it's also a great representation of rage in a fight.
@Anime Drip Even Hulk has more strategy than Eren at this moment (for example, Hulk is often seen grappling his opponents or throwing stuff). Tbh Hulk's anger is a lot more controlled than Eren's.
This is why this scene would still be epic even after s4 with the warhammer vs Eren, rumbling, genocide, I've always hated you, you saved me... you're the worst girl *(gets impregnated)* ,all that sht.

At 5:27 Eren is about to say Annie’s name because he realizes it’s her after she revealed her fighting stance. The characters always pronounce Annie’s name as “Ah-nnie” but Eren was only able to get the “Ah-“ part out. Some versions of the subtitles don’t even acknowledge this it’s so subtle.
3:54 perfectly encapsulates Eren's mindless and unhinged hatred towards the cruelty of his world, it's not even directed at Annie as he is no longer staring at her, it's almost directed inwards or nowhere. Insane rage.

I believe Marley did not know about the Attack Titan. The warriors were ordered to retrieve the coordinate not the Attack Titan. At this point in the Anime nobody knows that Eren actually has 2 Titans inside of him. Thats why i believe that the warriors simply believe he is the coordinate without really knowing it
Lilian Korba not sure of what am about say (4 years later i still have trouble with the story line lol) : I think they knew the Attack Titan had gone missing after Kruger disappearance and the boat never coming back. But indeed, the warriors mission was to contact (and eventually retrieve) the coordinate, which they wanted to do by destroying the walls to see his reaction. But guess what ? Grisha stole it, so 0 reaction. I think then when they attack the wall once more, they possibly wanted to annihilate eldians, which they didn’t do because they suddenly saw a shifter out of nowhere. So they knew he was or the attack or the founding (but didn’t really expect both) -> reiner is surprised when eren uses the coordinate, he coudn’t tell wether he had the founding or not. Basically Eren’s appearance completely change their plan. Not really, you have to keep in mind the Annie, Reiner, Bertolt, every Titan Shifter he's fought has had not only more experience with their Titan forms, but even them as Human's are more skilled, well, that's debatable with Reiner and Bertolt as even in their first fight, Reiner and Eren as Titan's seemed equal in skill with Reiner having the upper hand in durability, but Annie clearly is the most skilled Titan, Eren at this point still didn't have full control nor the experience with his Titan form, I'm pretty sure current Eren would destroy Annie.
I doubt current Eren would destroy Annie since his rep sheet is beating up Reiner and even in his last fight with Reiner Eren praised Annie as being superior, both times Eren fought Annie she was at a disadvantage (injured or surrounded) and yet he lost both times (manga wise at least, even in the berserk only anime fight he needed Mikasa), so current Eren is strong yes but he likely hasn't surpassed her- even his special ability isn't him beating her fair and square it's taking advantage of his surroundings, so we'll just need one more fight between them.
4:11 is one of my fav parts of this fight - Annie kicks him away and expects him to still be slumped against the tree when she slowly turns her head, instead he is right in front of her again throwing an uppercut - she was probably surprised by his rage which wouldn't have shown when they were training hand to hand together.
4:30 and on is masterful. The music is composed and paired sooo well. When you think "oh, this awesome music is probably gonna end abruptly like in other shows", nope. It keeps going and gets even more epic. AOT score is probably the best soundtrack I've heard in any anime, let alone any media (top 10 best soundtracks across all media).
I love how the fight is choreographed. Annie uses a technical fighting style while also dodging almost every hit to lower eren's stamina. Meanwhile Eren uses risk/reward as almost every hit he takes he's able to land a hit on her
she is a better fighter in most ways, and uses that temporary hardening to its complete advantage. eren is a very competent fighter, but his strength is utterly monstrous, equal only to his berserker rage. it makes him reckless, but also incredibly dangerous. her freaking send her flying through the air with a single punch. if she had not had her arms in the way, it likely would have snapped her body in half, making her vulnerable.
True but Annie has monstrous strength as well. She kicked off his entire head with only her leg. Annie's hands aren't that thick, if his punch was that strong I should see blood on her tbh. She seems fine to me, just worn out from her fights all day+running for miles+Levi squad attack+second titan transformation after only a few mins. Eren had the odds in his favor with full energy and full strength against a tired, weakened, injured, frightened Annie who needs him alive.

The way he holds the blades allows him to throw his entire body weight into the slices, and in a way pulls him along as he cuts, as opposed to only using the strength in his arms. His rough up bringing tought him to use everything he had.
Sometimes Eren anger really scared me because this isn’t just teenage angst anger. This is pure unadulterated rage for the world. Sure anger can cause someone to be reckless and emotionally unstable but damn it such an energy boost. And season 4 Eren finally controlled that anger and channel it into ruthless cold fury.

I was looking for this comment; the way the camera moves around during the climax of the battle along with the background and the music, this scene is without doubt, the best titan fight in the entire show in terms of animation.
This is one of the best scenes in the entire show, because it’s where Eren truly comes into his own. He goes toe to toe with Annie, an extremely experienced fighter who’s trained with her Titan since childhood, and takes her to task. He gets hit with absolutely devastating hits and keeps coming back. He never gives up and keeps pressing forward because he knows he HAS to win to protect everyone else. In the end, Annie has to sacrifice revealing her identity to stun Eren long enough to strike the winning blow. Even though Eren lost this fight, IMO this is the scene where he went from a boy to a man.
I love how they show she is reluctant to fight him as she fights defensively for most of it and at 2:10 she’s genuinely surprised he wants her dead so bad that he breaks his own arms with each blow. Then at 4:37 you can see her give up on how she feels and finally decides to actually hurt him. What’s more is directly after that blow she is able completely one shot him showing she could have finished the fight from the very start. Details man details
Not truly. As a (beginner) martial artist, i can say that that kick of Annie needed her arms to keep her balanced. So, the moment she got her arms back, she could end the battle.
You literally just saw what would happen if the fought from the start. Eren ate her attack and almost ended the fight with one punch. She had to tire him out before going for a critical shot.
Although at the same time, eren has an extra set of teeth where his cheeks should be, with a gap between his normal set of teeth. Pretty much all titans look rather monstrous tbh
Annie is one of the best antagonists, without truly being the villain. She was a much more terrifying presence than both Berthold and Reiner. And her expressions in her titan form just give that extra edge that makes it age like wine, 3 seasons later

Actually no, eren was still learning to control his Titan, if we were to see Annie only won the fight because she had the crystallization ability, if it wasn't for that, eren would beat her, so much so that in the second fight eren beat her, and even with the crystallization ability she would lose to the strength and anger of the eren

@@t-dawg5265 I'm not sure, the female titan really shouldn't have the hardening, it was probably given to Annie before the mission to get the coordinate back, I have the idea that Annie does not have "normal" skin because having the serum of hardening it probably removes the skin of the titan in question, Reiner also has no skin, in fact none of the 3 remaining warriors have skin, I think they probably got it out of Reiner's spinal fluid( o the previous bearer of the same) , That would really make sense but Eren apparently still has his skin (?????) It seems logical to me that generating the armor is easier if you do not have skin. Also I think that a battle of a competent Eren (post second fight with Annie) with the hardening would put Annie in trouble. Annie won both times in my opinion since Eren could not use a specific strategy(and was totally furious), he had only had the experience of killing several pure titans before that and he never thought of using his combat skills that he used in human form.

Season 1 was the most scariest yet a very epic beginning season. Season 2 was brutal and cruel. Season 3 was really thrilling and full of hype and badassness. Season 4 is tragic and depressing along with the best season of all time. Peak AoT IMO

No matter how much time passes this is still by FAR my favorite fight of the series, it has so many incredible moments, from a handicapped female titan saving time to regenerate the damage limbs, Eren's hate seizure, the shrilling screams of the attack titan pressed against her face, are and most of all, the satisfaction at 4:43 where after missing everything Eren throws the female titan off guard because he is so uncaring about his body's injuries and is so determined to win that he fucking grates his teeth against hardened titan flesh just to land a clean punch
This is the moment I realized Attack on Titan is a unique anime. Eren made all the “right” choices from our perspective and the perspective of his team, he put his trust in others which is a typical anime trope that usually is the path to victory. And yet here, it was the biggest mistake, because like Levi said every choice has an outcome and there is no true “right” way to proceed. If Eren put his trust in himself back when Annie pursued them, he 100% would’ve taken her down because the Elite Squad and the main scout force would’ve been there to back him up. He made a mistake. And this wasn’t a one off event that Eren forgot about, he began to put his faith in others less and trusted himself to take the step forward, he learned the lesson. This is probably the most important event in his entire story because it dictated how he handled every situation following.
In the later season(incoming final season), Eren's first battle with Annie has influenced Eren's Initiative and decision-making. [Spoiler Warning] It was due to the fact that Eren has been relying on everyone to help him, which eventually leads to their doom. it was after the time skip or their time in Marley that Eren has been making independent moves that deviate from everyone and himself has gone rogue, obviously making the decision by himself. When Eren relied on the Levi Squad, it was because he was obligated to believe in them, he does not want to doubt the Levi squad's skills, hence he hesitated to help. When Eren took the initiative and disappeared, he knew he had no choice but to do what is best, even if it means to doubt everyone. When Eren met the Warhammer, he took no chances to spare time and gave the Warhammer no time to fight back, it was his reflection from when Eren fought annie, he had all the chances from the start. Not only he could've protected everyone, but also keep the Levi squad from dying had Eren done it from the start the fact of the matter is, even if you always have everyone watching out for your backs, they're not always there to help, you gotta watch out for yourself. The greatest weakness that held eren back since first season is "holding back". Now that he no longer holds back, Eren has become formidable, capable of destroying anything that gets in his way.
I like how Annie moved her head when he punched down into the ground, and when Reiner & Eren fought, Eren moved his head as Reiner punched into the ground. Not only that, Annie looked up Eren with this strange facial expression, and Eren did the exact same to Reiner.
I love this fight so much man, i've rewatched season 1 5 times and this fights always get me the chills, when eren is on top of annie looking back on what levi told him and then going crazy with that smile, not to mention with the greatest ost of all time on the background and an astounding performance by eren's voice actor. I believe Marley did not know about the Attack Titan. The warriors were ordered to retrieve the coordinate not the Attack Titan. At this point in the Anime nobody knows that Eren actually has 2 Titans inside of him.
Thats why i believe that the warriors simply believe he is the coordinate without really knowing it

I think they knew the Attack Titan had gone missing after Kruger disappearance and the boat never coming back. But indeed, the warriors mission was to contact (and eventually retrieve) the coordinate, which they wanted to do by destroying the walls to see his reaction. But guess what ? Grisha stole it, so 0 reaction. I think then when they attack the wall once more, they possibly wanted to annihilate eldians, which they didn’t do because they suddenly saw a shifter out of nowhere. So they knew he was or the attack or the founding (but didn’t really expect both) -> reiner is surprised when eren uses the coordinate, he coudn’t tell wether he had the founding or not. Basically Eren’s appearance completely change their plan. Therefore they started chasing him, without ever being sure he had the founding titan (but they still could try to take him for 2 reasons : he COULD have had the founding, and they needed to bring back something to save them from replacement)

Marley did know, and once the Warriors left the island, Zeke and the other Marleyan titans and officers came to the conclusion Eren had the Attack Titan.
Wasn't till after Eren touched Dina that the other titans understood he had the Founding Titan as well, and given the Attack Titan was missing, it would be logical to assume they would've thought it would be on the Island since no baby/child with the power had been discovered.

Not really, you have to keep in mind the Annie, Reiner, Bertolt, every Titan Shifter he's fought has had not only more experience with their Titan forms, but even them as Human's are more skilled, well, that's debatable with Reiner and Bertolt as even in their first fight, Reiner and Eren as Titan's seemed equal in skill with Reiner having the upper hand in durability, but Annie clearly is the most skilled Titan, Eren at this point still didn't have full control nor the experience with his Titan form, I'm pretty sure current Eren would destroy Annie.
I doubt current Eren would destroy Annie since his rep sheet is beating up Reiner and even in his last fight with Reiner Eren praised Annie as being superior, both times Eren fought Annie she was at a disadvantage (injured or surrounded) and yet he lost both times (manga wise at least, even in the berserk only anime fight he needed Mikasa), so current Eren is strong yes but he likely hasn't surpassed her- even his special ability isn't him beating her fair and square it's taking advantage of his surroundings, so we'll just need one more fight between them.

4:11 is one of my fav parts of this fight - Annie kicks him away and expects him to still be slumped against the tree when she slowly turns her head, instead he is right in front of her again throwing an uppercut - she was probably surprised by his rage which wouldn't have shown when they were training hand to hand together.

I love how the fight is choreographed. Annie uses a technical fighting style while also dodging almost every hit to lower eren's stamina. Meanwhile Eren uses risk/reward as almost every hit he takes he's able to land a hit on her
she is a better fighter in most ways, and uses that temporary hardening to its complete advantage. eren is a very competent fighter, but his strength is utterly monstrous, equal only to his berserker rage. it makes him reckless, but also incredibly dangerous.

Sure anger can cause someone to be reckless and emotionally unstable but damn it such an energy boost. And season 4 Eren finally controlled that anger and channel it into ruthless cold fury.

I was looking for this comment; the way the camera moves around during the climax of the battle along with the background and the music, this scene is without doubt, the best titan fight in the entire show in terms of animation.
This is one of the best scenes in the entire show, because it’s where Eren truly comes into his own. He goes toe to toe with Annie, an extremely experienced fighter who’s trained with her Titan since childhood, and takes her to task. He gets hit with absolutely devastating hits and keeps coming back. He never gives up and keeps pressing forward because he knows he HAS to win to protect everyone else. In the end, Annie has to sacrifice revealing her identity to stun Eren long enough to strike the winning blow.
Even though Eren lost this fight, IMO this is the scene where he went from a boy to a man.

I love how they show she is reluctant to fight him as she fights defensively for most of it and at 2:10 she’s genuinely surprised he wants her dead so bad that he breaks his own arms with each blow. Then at 4:37 you can see her give up on how she feels and finally decides to actually hurt him. Not truly. As a (beginner) martial artist, i can say that that kick of Annie needed her arms to keep her balanced. So, the moment she got her arms back, she could end the battle.

@@t-dawg5265 I'm not sure, the female titan really shouldn't have the hardening, it was probably given to Annie before the mission to get the coordinate back, I have the idea that Annie does not have "normal" skin because having the serum of hardening it probably removes the skin of the titan in question, Reiner also has no skin, in fact none of the 3 remaining warriors have skin, I think they probably got it out of Reiner's spinal fluid( o the previous bearer of the same) , That would really make sense but Eren apparently still has his skin (?????) It seems logical to me that generating the armor is easier if you do not have skin. Also I think that a battle of a competent Eren (post second fight with Annie) with the hardening would put Annie in trouble. Annie won both times in my opinion since Eren could not use a specific strategy(and was totally furious), he had only had the experience of killing several pure titans before that and he never thought of using his combat skills that he used in human form.

No matter how much time passes this is still by FAR my favorite fight of the series, it has so many incredible moments, from a handicapped female titan saving time to regenerate the damage limbs, Eren's hate seizure, the shrilling screams of the attack titan pressed against her face, are and most of all, the satisfaction at 4:43 where after missing everything Eren throws the female titan off guard because he is so uncaring about his body's injuries and is so determined to win that he fucking grates his teeth against hardened titan flesh just to land a clean punch

This is the moment I realized Attack on Titan is a unique anime. Eren made all the “right” choices from our perspective and the perspective of his team, he put his trust in others which is a typical anime trope that usually is the path to victory. And yet here, it was the biggest mistake, because like Levi said every choice has an outcome and there is no true “right” way to proceed.
If Eren put his trust in himself back when Annie pursued them, he 100% would’ve taken her down because the Elite Squad and the main scout force would’ve been there to back him up. He made a mistake.
And this wasn’t a one off event that Eren forgot about, he began to put his faith in others less and trusted himself to take the step forward, he learned the lesson. This is probably the most important event in his entire story because it dictated how he handled every situation following.

In the later season(incoming final season), Eren's first battle with Annie has influenced Eren's Initiative and decision-making.

It was due to the fact that Eren has been relying on everyone to help him, which eventually leads to their doom. it was after the time skip or their time in Marley that Eren has been making independent moves that deviate from everyone and himself has gone rogue, obviously making the decision by himself.
When Eren relied on the Levi Squad, it was because he was obligated to believe in them, he does not want to doubt the Levi squad's skills, hence he hesitated to help. When Eren took the initiative and disappeared, he knew he had no choice but to do what is best, even if it means to doubt everyone.
When Eren met the Warhammer, he took no chances to spare time and gave the Warhammer no time to fight back, it was his reflection from when Eren fought annie, he had all the chances from the start. Not only he could've protected everyone, but also keep the Levi squad from dying had Eren done it from the start
the fact of the matter is, even if you always have everyone watching out for your backs, they're not always there to help, you gotta watch out for yourself.
The greatest weakness that held eren back since first season is "holding back". Now that he no longer holds back, Eren has become formidable, capable of destroying anything that gets in his way.
I still think Eren deserves to die in the worst way possible, though I like him at the same time, idk man this chapters getting my feeling confused

I like how Annie moved her head when he punched down into the ground, and when Reiner & Eren fought, Eren moved his head as Reiner punched into the ground.
Not only that, Annie looked up Eren with this strange facial expression, and Eren did the exact same to Reiner.

I love this fight so much man, i've rewatched season 1 5 times and this fights always get me the chills, when eren is on top of annie looking back on what levi told him and then going crazy with that smile, not to mention with the greatest ost of all time on the background and an astounding performance by eren's voice actor. WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩
