Siepi’s voice is a final boss of Basses!

Listening to this wonderful man singing this song with his magnificent voice brings me back to my childhood watching Ed Sullivan Sunday Nights with my parents. I probably didn't appreciate it back then as a kid but I sure do now. I wish those days could last forever. But with youtube, they bring back the memories. I don't hear vocalists like this today bringing all this emotion and style to their talent. The orchestral arrangement is wonderful as well. Cesare was on the show many times singing both modern day songs and Italian opera. Each performance spectacular in itself.

In 2021, it's refreshing to hear a man's singing voice that... actually sounds like a mature male. A nice rendition.

Cesare was a fantastic operatic bass
profondo, with a wonderful timbre and amazing skills as a performer.

I think he's a basso cantabile but he did have a Low C. He's my favorite bass..listen to his mellow resonance and blended registers with a smooth legato....

Incredible singer. Unique in combination of range, power and beauty. Many others have some of these to outstanding levels but to have all 3 to the level Siepi does.

Siepi, Ghiaurov and Spinza made very hard for me to enjoy any other bass (especially today's “basses”). Ps: I didn't listen many Neri recordings unfortunately.

Thank you so much for posting this rare footage! Please continue to post opera singers singing popular songs; I know quite a few of them did so on the Sullivan show, such as James Melton and Jan Peerce and many others. "Love is a Many Splendored Thing" was one of the biggest hit songs of 1955, and was the theme song of the movie of the same name. There were a number of records of the song which charted, but the biggest of all was by the Four Aces, who performed their #1 hit version twice on the Sullivan show. I hope you will post them too! Thanks again for all these great uploads!

I've never watched Ed Sullivan's show, but seeing Siepi and Pinza were on it. this show looks like a gift for all the future generations.

Another Siepi surprise. I was too young to watch the Sullivan show in those days so catching up is a revealing process. I have a CD of Siepi singing Cole Porter & various Italian songs so this just adds to his crossover gems. Pinza was also exemplary in this but Siepi‘s English pronunciation is superior in all I have heard so far.

He's a high bass my friend, he just has a good upper range and can sing in an almost baritone-like range if he wants to.

Love is a many splendored thing
It's the April rose that only grows in the early Spring
Love is nature's way of giving a reason to be living
The golden crown that makes a man a king
Once on a high and windy hill, In the morning mist
Two lovers kissed and the world stood still
Then your fingers touched my silent heart and taught it how to sing
Yes, true love's a many splendored thing

The length of his neck, of the tractus under his jaw to his larynx is extremely long. He doesn't have to lower very much his larynx(when he breathes, it get down even much lower). He can sing chin up, with an open throat, and it sounds so dark and effortless...

I think it is a different camera angle. They were using two cameras, one was pointing at the left side of his face, then they switch to the camera that was pointing at the right side of his face.

Siepi did well as an opera singer singing popular music. His diction was clear; his English was good. HIs placement was somewhat forward. When he sang Cole Porter, his sound was very silky.
