Siepi is the bestest bass singer of basses, including opera aria, musical, and pop songs well. He is a Basso profondo, and Bel canto singer too. I really admire him in every way of him.
With all due respect buddy, I disagree with that way of classifying his voice. I think he sounds heavier than a basso cantante but not quite a basso profondo. I think he is a dramatic high bass (some people call it a Verdi bass).
@@bradycall1889 I agree, in italian classification hes voice is "Drammatico basso cantante", in some other classification (commonly used in former USSR countries, but шт афсе that is choir classification) it may be called "central bass".
Basso profondo is usually associated with a low bass that also struggles with high notes. Siepi doesn't struggle with high notes at all, on the contrary. He has a fantastic lower register, including the low C, but all in all, he is a basso cantante. Just as Pinza was a basso cantante. Pinza had a sort of self made technique. I'm not sure he had access to all the low notes he could have potentially had with the instrument he was given.
@@hanslick3375 While I would agree that Siepi is best classified as a basso cantante, many famous operatic Basso profondos, like Jose Mardones, Ivar Andresen, Maxim Mikhailov and Luciano Neroni (among others) had fantastic high ranges. It has even been said that Mardones could sing Celeste Aida in key. If you use basso profondo as a synonym for Oktavist, then I would mostly agree. Pinza could produce a powerful low D atlest towards the end of his career, I would suppose he would have had some kind of a C as well, but maybe not as secure as Siepi. Overall, I do consider Pinza a superior singer to Siepi.
From a Richard Rodgers tribute show taped at Carnegie Hall. I think Rodgers is conducting the orchestra. Please upload Jan Peerce and Sergio Franchi's powerful renditions of this great song on the Sullivan show!
Another Siepi surprise. We never watched the Sullivan show often back when I was a kid but now thanks to You Tube I am catching up. Wonderful & thanks so much for the posting.
Excellent. And I really like the sound of the audio. Makes me think of classic Disney movies. Recordings just aren’t made the same these days, and they haven’t been for a good while.
Siepi, a basso cantante (low bass) with a fantastic range in both directions (C2 to at least G4) sings this song beautifully, with impeccable English diction. He sings it in B-flat major, which is really a baritone key, but he handles the baritone tessitura very well, uncorking a fine, solid top F. The very capable conductor is none other than the song's composer, Richard Rodgers.
Siepi at that age had one of the greatest voices of all time.

Bravissimo Maestro!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏
A man, his voice, and the joy of performing and inspiring people.
That's a nice bass voice.
Cesare Siepi was the greatest singer of all time.
The greatest bass no doubt about it

Please Sergio Franchi especially!
Yes, it is indeed Rodgers conducting.
Conducted by the composer, Richard Rogers. From the 1945 musical, Carousel.

Absolutely beautiful. Music and his voice are powerful when united.
So moving. Bravo Seipi
lol the audience clapping and the song resuming is too good 😂
Beautiful and grand; thank you!
Incredible!
A superb singer. So why was he only briefly shown on this film?
Grandissimo Cesare Siepi!!!!!

Один из лучших Басов в мире!

I think I would have clapped early too...

Who's the Director? I like him.
It's the composer of Carousel, Richard Rodgers, who was marvellous.
@@verdiguy thank you
@@edraith You're welcome. I believe that this clip came from a celebration of his work and that he conducted most of the concert.
Great music and singing but oh my God. That's the worst camera work I've ever seen in my life. Not even a glimpse of Siepi. Incomprehensible.
