My Experience Doing Coffee Enemas... And Why I Had to Stop Doing Them!

  • Before I recommend something to my patients, I make sure that I tried it myself. When I had the idea of creating a coffee enema series on UA-cam, I know that I have to test it out. And I did! But what was the effect or the results of doing coffee enema?
Do their claims apply to everyone?
Must everyone do a coffee enema?

The main reason for doing coffee enemas is not to stimulate the vagus nerve (although that is a suspected benefit) the reason for doing coffee enemas is to stimulate glutathione production and dilate the bile ducts.

She has another video that discusses the peer-reviewed literature for glutathione and coffee enema. No additional glutathione is being measured in those studies, from either oral coffee or coffee enema.
The bile release idea is more intriguing, but the studies there were not conclusive.

Agree, I have Chronic Lyme & treating bartonella. I was having intense pain episodes and the coffee enemas have helped me so much, my liver was over taxed. I think it's important too to see a functional medicine professional who is an actual MD, as some patients are not good candidates for coffee enemas.

4 enemas over 6 days?! I don’t quite understand why someone would do this that frequently especially if they’d never done one before. That would definitely disrupt the body.
My doctor explained that with a coffee enema we’re trying to gently nudge the body back to homeostasis.
I’d would do one enema and spend the next couple weeks evaluating the changes with my doctor and repeat if necessary. Never more than 2 a month and I go months without doing them.
Please don’t take this comment negatively but you kind of set yourself up for having issues. Most people with ongoing health issues know if you try something new to start slow. Whether that’s introducing a new food item, supplement, or enemas.

You’re absolutely right. I don’t understand she did so many enemas. I agree with you two enemas per month if you have an illness or issue. I just briefly researched the coffee enemas and with common sense I would not do so many enemas. For someone who is supposed to be a holistic expert, it’s very concerning the information she is giving on UA-cam and her clients. I don’t think she did a thorough research on coffee enema.

The Gerson Therapy requires 5 enemas EVERY DAY! These are extremely sick people that can still handle it and would probably not even notice something so minor as a change in their cycle. 1-2 a month seems a little silly to me. I wouldn’t bother then. They are not that powerful or dangerous.
My Dr gave me the opposite advice for mold detox. She said the enemas would do a lot of the heavy lifting of detox and the more I do the better. I’m still evaluating it so I don’t know who is right. It seems to help my SIBO which makes sense as it releases bile which kills bugs in the small intestine. If this is actually happening 1-2x a month would be worthless for SIBO IMHO.

This is a very interesting experiment but frankly I don’t completely agree with your expectations about HRV or the way you discounted the upward trend while on the enemas. It is reasonable to expect your HRV to be basically range-bound and for that range to either suddenly drop with sleep deprivation or to gradually increase slightly over time from a large combination of beneficial practices. Some things like deep meditation or breath-work can temporarily spike HRV - but that is normally very short-lived. That’s how HRV and improvement generally works - as far as I’ve seen anyway.
I would even take that further - since the enemas are intended primarily as an intervention to start a healing process (not what you are testing/focusing on) involving stimulating the liver to dump bile (along with glutathione production) it seems unreasonable to expect instant healing and recovery i.e. near instant improvement in HRV. In fact you should expect HRV to _worsen_ initially from “healing reactions.” Since there was no challenge in holding the coffee there was no opportunity for improvement in HRV to be seen. Furthermore, since you are doing so few enemas, and there is no talk about binders or other things to help prevent reabsorption, you should expect a good amount of bile to be reabsorbed - reintroducing the toxins that were just dumped causing, if anything, a _worsening_ of HRV. So you may have instead _disproven_ that detox was occurring for you based on the modest increase in HRV. This could be a problem in your procedure or a sign of exceptional health. But there is FAR too little data to go on.
So you probably got about as much HRV improvement as you could reasonably expect as your vagus nerve and gut health are already pretty great. That you didn't see anything dramatic sounds about right- for all the reasons cited. But despite all the work you clearly put into the video, this is more of an anecdote based on a rather cursory experience rather than an experiment your viewers and clients can really learn from - at least as far as I can tell. Most clients or viewers with dieases they need to heal would be much more motivated to take this further and would focus on the other main aspects of the treatment I would think. It's interesting to look out for the hormonal issue - but seeing as this doesn't seem to be a common problem and you seem to have probably disproven that any detoxing was happening I would take it with a grain of salt and not use it as an excuse to keep someone who is suffering from trying it for themselves.

@@jermaineholmes3531 Thanks for the compliment. I’m a bit undecided on the enemas as I have Crohn’s disease so it is probably too irritating and not particularly smart. I’ve stopped for now. Although the first few seemed helpful. I can’t say what is right for you.
I followed the directions for the Gerson Therapy including the coffee from Cafe Mam (therapy roast). Directions in the “all about enemas” section of the book “Healing the Gerson Way” by Charlotte Gerson. You want an organic light roast, low in mold. They recommended that brand for glutathione s-transferase production. But you also need a very high quality diet for the detoxing bit to work.
I waited 10 years to try it- but honestly it’s not so bad. It can be hard to hold so let it in slowly and get the temp right. Breathe and relax with gentle music. Pinching the thumb and index finger together can help you hold it in. My first few times I felt more energy and wellbeing, less SIBO symptoms, but it irritated hemorrhoids. Later ones were somehow easier on hemorrhoids but actually harder to hold and left me feeling worn out and jittery- but keep in mind I have a bowel disease.

Coffee enema do not heal you from anything, your own body system does. The purpose of coffee enema is to remove the toxic from the body so your body system can function as it should. However, that is out and there is a in process. Now that the toxic is out of the way, your body cells need alot of nutrients and proteins that required to do the repairs to your system which usually come from veg and fruits. If your dietary has a lot of meat, it will only bring more burden to your system.
Also i recommend doing the liver flush to remove the stones in your liver before using the coffee enema to do the maintenance. Gallstones are cholesterol in solid form which coffee enema is not effective in removing it as it require fasting, epsom salts and oliver oil.
I used to have gall bladder stones and was told by my doctor to remove the gall bladder. Instead, i used liver flush to remove them once every 3 months. Ever since, i have no more pain from my gall bladder anymore.
Like your car, if the engine is full of carbon, you need to clean them first
If not, however frequent you change your filter or engine oil (like that of a coffee enema), it will not bring back the car performance. Liver flush is like cleaning the carbon in your car engine.

@@sunmoon9527 (1) drink 1.2 litres of green apple juice or apple cider mixed with water on daily basis for the next 7 days - this is to breakdown the large stones inside your body to facilitate the purging. (2) at the eight day, eat light and start fasting after 2pm, then drink espom salts water 3 spoons to a glass of water at 5 to 6pm. You will start going to toilet go clear your system - this is to faciliate the clearing of your digestive to ensure during purge nothing obstruct the stones from coming out. (3) at 8pm drink another round of espom salt for clearing. (4) around 10pm or 11pm depending on the time you go to bed, drink olive oil about one cup - use a straw so it go directly down the throat, make it easier. Some like to mix with lime juice i use tomato juice. Sleep within the next half hour and lie on the right side to let the olive oil wash the liver down. You feel things rolling the stones. (5) wake up in the morning, drink espom salt water again, you may or may not see much stones yet. (6) for the rest of the day, stay at home and drink espom salt to purge. You probably start seeing stones coming out - huge amount. Till you see no more stones thru out the day, you take something light and rest. For the next 2 to 3 weeks, you will see drastic changes. Initially you may look pale like you just recovered from a major sickness. But when the blood start to flow without much obstruction from the stones, your skin look radiant and healthy.
Make sure the olive oil is cold pressed and organic. Buy the German food grade espom salt, it is easier to drink, dont taste so replusive.

Hope this help you. I lose 9kg of my weight after 3 weeks. And after the flush I will usually take veg and fruits for the next one week. Occasional meat on a managable amount.

Hi Doctor, I had never heard of an aura ring so I looked it up. From an electronics/engineering background I would question how accurate the data detected by a simple device worn on a ring finger would be? I saw no clinical testing mentioned to backup the reliability/accuracy of their device. I have had sleep studies done and they hook a lot of EEG and EKG electrodes, chest straps and an O2 sensor to you during a thorough sleep study. I just don't see what this ring would have to do with coffee enemas? Taking one per day is excessive in my experience. Try doing one or two per week and use an organic light or medium roasted coffee that is free of molds. Also be sure to use distilled or filtered water to avoid chemicals in municipal water that might be affecting your hormones. Also add electrolytes to make it isotonic. If you take one in the AM, the caffeine will make it hard to sleep the first night, because it is absorbed more slowly over a longer time period. Laying on your right side will also increase the elimination time. I am diabetic and they really help fight the fatigue caused by diabetes, they also help clear brain fog. They also cured gall bladder pain that I was suffering from. But like Allyssa R. said the main reason is to boost glutathione levels for most users.

  • @persistentone3448

Your idea regarding estrogen and spotting seems plausible. Estrogen gets recycled by several phase ii pathways including sulfation, UGT, and glutathionylation, and all of those liver metabolites come out in bile. So if the coffee enema did speed up bile release, and/or sped up transit time, it would potentially accelerate the removal of estrogen.

I've been doing organic coffee enemas twice a month (every 2 weeks) for over a year. The warmer the better to help break down and rinse junk in the colon that needs to come out. I haven't measured my rinse fluid but it's probably around 106 F, the same as a standard hot tub. Below 98 F and the cold cramps are the damn worse! 😂 Hold it for 12 to 15 minutes. Shake and move and rest in different positions to help break up the colon debris so it comes out better.
Enemas take some getting used to, and determination. Deep breathing when the cramps come is KEY, and not cringing and freaking out when you'll get cramps holding it. The cramps are normal.
After I'm done, I always feel a little violated yet appreciative to be free of it! 😆
Do yourself a favor and buy the stainless steel can enema for best results and easy cleaning/drying. Do them before 10am on an empty stomach, having nothing but a glass or two of water beforehand. This way you won't be kept up to 1am on the caffeine buzz.
If you want specific guidance just ask. Not gonna waste my time typing otherwise. It's simple overall.

The people who are for it are all like "YOU DON'T NEED "EVIDENCE", PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DOING IT FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS!", with NO evidence or documentation to back that up. I want to give the idea a chance, as I'm very holistic health-oriented and "crunchy", and I don't think you HAVE to have several scientific studies for something to be worth trying... buuuut their _aggression_ about the suspicious lack of documentation for any of their claims is off-putting to me. I’ve only done a few coffee enemas- what led me to try was the idea of stimulating the liver to dump bile while producing glutathione. Frankly that’s all I ever heard before about it. The way that I interpret what others have written about the effect on vagus nerve (and my experience) is the act of relaxing and controlling your bowels when they start gurgling and wanting to eject the coffee is a meditative state, where you are both aware of and controlling your gut. Because it isn’t some magical drug in the coffee directly acting on the nerve, it is instead a mind-body connection that you train, and would improve over time, I don't see why you would expect to see instant and dramatic results the same day for HRV.
You’re clearly very healthy with a very calm and healthy gut - I found it a bit funny that you would be worried that your body tolerating something harsh could be a sign of dysfunction or poor health! Only someone very healthy would make that leap. ha ha.

I’m sorry to say, but you have an insufficient amount of time doing coffee enemas to show up as a positive maybe do it again and try it

You ‘had to stop’ doing them?

Yes. It isn't worth screwing up my hormones and in my professional opinion, continuing to do them would have been unwise or possibly dangerous.

@@gutmicrobiomequeen 30 every day is way too much, no wonder enema sure backfire. Once or twice at the most thrice a year.

I agree. It’s entertaining to see her reaching for conclusions based on non specific symptoms. The enemas did not change my sleep cycle, so it didn’t work. I can hold my coffee forever, so my vagus nerve is very healthy, or maybe it is very unhealthy. I had a little spotting, it’s because my all my estrogen got dumped, so now I have to stop. Those associations are such a reach, haha.

Indeed. Exploring the unknown by experiencing, researching and experimenting on herself and shareing her experience & data to the people interested in the subject counts as a person who doesnt know anything about the topic of putting coffee up your ass. I've seen the Gerson Therapy Documentary & altho is was a very well made documentary, theres still no scientific evidence of HOW Gersons Organic/Coffee Enima treatment benifit, even on a cellular level & how it can prove benifitual universally, not by 40 people alone. People SAY they got better from the treatment, but really? If there are evidence that fresh shit can extend & heal life, then we wouldnt have seen people having cancer & diseases...... Pollution, pesticides, & harmful chemicals is a different subject, which im happy that companies are (slowly) changing their systems now a days. Even having access to not only fresh foods, but also technology, research & a platform to share the results, people are still getting sick & to mock her as if you know more than her about a coffee flush makes me laugh. So thank you for that. 😊 it's almost like most ppl prefer emotional heresay, because it feels better than realities hard truth that life is extremely more complicated than the isolated experiences alone. Like the flat earthers. Thank you for participating and have a nice day.

Real doctors do not recommend coffee enemas nor do they participate in them. Wiow
