Another interesting video, thank you! I’m in Canada at the moment, however, I lived in the DR for 14 years and would love to go back soon and do something along the same lines as you.
I live in Canada right now but I'm looking to move. I have been looking at Central America because it is relatively close to Canada. I started looking at Costa Rica but changed my mind after hearing about how the crime rate and cost of living has risen. I am now looking at Nicaragua and can't wait to come explore. Thanks for your videos. Love them.
I think you did the right thing paying the man even when his work was not what you wanted. That is the admirable thing to do. But first allowing him to at least try and correct it was also good. He might take pride in his work and giving him the chance to feel good about what he's done, so he can be proud in front of his children and family, is a good thing. I admire your patience and kindness.
Great choice on material but it is just galvanized steel, not Aluminum. You don't have to galvanize aluminum. I am using the same material to build mobile chicken coops on our farm in San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua.
Hi! Emense i have been following your channel I like your content I seen my self on your experience. Is like my dream own a farm in Nicaragua and be busy doing something I have been living in the states and travel very obtén to Nica Yeah you guess it .. I’m from Matagalpa. And yeah I run on the situation about construction when I build commercial space to rent The solution for that is you (owner ) have to be supervising the project. Nices videos keep up. Saludos...
Hi Elton, your house is going to be amazing! I'm enjoying your videos immensely 😊 After alot of research, Nicaragua is at the top of my list. I'm planning my first trip for the beginning of 2025.
Great video, thank you for sharing your journey. The natural world looks amazing, I can picture those big canopy trees, llenos de chocoyos. I would love to move to the south of Brazil. Cheers brother, ☕️
So exciting! What most of your viewers need to understand is that the farm is two hours up on the mountains from a city large enough to find skilled labor. Since most don't own a truck, that becomes a large challenge for you too. In the expat communities where I live, finding skilled workers or even a general contractor is much easier. Still, a year plus to build a home is not uncommon here. The house is going to be amazing when it's finished. Such a beautiful place with spectacular views! What are you going to do for power? Solar? Galvanized is good. I hope they spray painted the welds to prevent them from rusting. Have you considered screening in the deck/patio? Mine is and let me tell you it's a nice touch in mosquito season,. Can't wait for the house warming party.
Thanks Brett! We did spray paint the welds. I want to go solar, I am emailing company's to see if they want to work with me as a sponsor. I am hopeful I can find a partner! Cheers
Guatemala is not cheap my daughter in law parents are from there and she Said is becoming expensive. Also security wise is not as Nicaragua is. Now Spain and Europe is getting chaotic with all those massive immigration from ppl of Nigeria, Latin America etc.
I feel you. We bought a nice huge properly in ticuantepe on la concha never live in it . And is now up for sale since my dad passed away 3 yrs ago and i have no relatives in Nicaragua so there's no point of Us keeping that property . Is a 6bd 3ba huge backyard witj many frutal trees and view to the cordillera and nice terrace to sit and sip coffee watching the beautiful sunset. Very nice refreshing climate. But we pay $100 a month to a house keeper and when it comes to minor repairs due to no vacancy of the property we found this neighbor guy that knows the job ans have the skills but takes for ever to get the job done and its frustrating. I just pray we could sell that property ASAP. I can send you info and pictures if you know of anyone interested. Thank you for your time. By the way greetings from Santa clara ( silicon valley California) .
Great video Sir. We had some similar challenges with our house in Popoyo. Hard to find a good, knowledgeable builder. We finally did and he worked a few miracles cleaning up some messes from previous guys. We really enjoy watching your progress. Keep up the great work. Your family farm is coming back to life.
Looking forward to the next update on your casa. You may want to remind your contractors that good work advertised today, will mean great referrals for work going forward.
I have a couple countries in Central America on my short list. Nicaragua is a top candidate and its lower cost of living is very attractive. There is also a lot of potential for growth, not overrun and I love that.
Funny story about wood - Back in 2004/2005, when I was a real noob, I asked an extended family member why so few homes were made of wood, so many was cement blocks. He turned and said to my with a wry smile "Wood does not stop bullits" - I still laugh, and fear, that statement to this day. We put Alumax sheets on the roof of our house after reading up on it...
Saludos emense, que grosor tienes esos postes que colocaste en las bases de concreto? Se ven un poco delgados para ser los pilares principales de la construcción, y otra pregunta seria porque no usaste hierro y concreto para los pilares o colimnas principales?
Im girl From Poland and l am also that jobless friend who you see day drinking at 1 pm, but lately I think about become even MORE jobless friend. Living off-grid, permaculture, own energy and water and food thats way to go. Chat gpt told me that Nikaragua is perfect for it and have very cheap lands and build house there is also very cheap. Happy that alghoritm do GREAT FUCKING job showing me your Channel. Greeting.
I would like to move there and try it, however, I would like to buy a land and build my own house. How do you find an architect to make sure they do things right? Is this a good idea or a contractor would do? What is the process of the paperwork when buying a land or house over there as far as finding an honest attorney and people involved? How can you buy directly from the owner instead of going through a realtor? When you left CA, did you bring your stuff with you or did you sell everything and came with nothing? I live in CA as well. Did you bring your vehicle or did you buy one in Nicaragua? I know, I have so many questions but it’s getting so expensive over here that I’m keeping me options opened. Thank you in advance for your answers.
Donde vibes? Or at least a hint! Hahahahah I understand safety. Estaré en la NICA a fines de verano. Would love to visit and bring a gift! Baby? 🙏🕊️💕 ☕️
Very nice tour. BTW: it's very expensive in America to build anything and the workmanship is poor... As far as an American moving to another country: Mexico is easy, still cheap in some places and the 6 month visa is easy, too. My dogs don't need a health certificate or anything special to cross the border. So Mexico is very attractive. Nicaragua beats all other countries for its cost of living. So I would seriously consider Nicaragua. And I am planning on a visit next year.

Nice! Good luck on the hunt! My advice is to travel to Nicaragua and spend some time discovering the cities before committing to buy. Cheers!

Moved to Nicaragua. But if looking at other options... Guatemala, Spain, Italy or Romania would be top choices.
