Much better sermons than in churches today. Since being saved in 2018, I tried so many churches... Every time, I filled out the newcomers card... no one ever talked to me. I tried volunteering but I had to be a member- a “contributing” member. I’m falling into the sin of alcoholism but these sermons help. I’ve heard that Spurgeon struggled with depression too...
Something to consider?!?!? We are created in Gods' image and God even without the physical creation we are part of is described as a 'family''. Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And also described in the Bible are other beings. Our need for society is not well addressed in today's church. Your experience says so and so does mine and comments I read on sites seems to indicate this is the experience of others as well. What to do? Consider support groups. Maybe AA which I used for some 20 years and the 'organization', more disorganization than organization, started from a religious group in the UK in the 1800's so today some people still have meetings with a religious orientation. There are other support groups like AA, 12 step groups and some copycat type groups like 'Celebrate Recovery', which was started by Protestant preacher, Rick Warren. I went to AA for many years and it kept me from drinking but I didn't accept the religious aspect as necessary which as I look back seems like most people don't accept the religious aspect and treat it as a 'social' club of sorts. Picnics, bowling, music events and whatever. Thing is people to people contact was highly promoted and helpful!. Newcomers were given a list of phone numbers of those attending who wanted to help and it seems church would do well to learn from them to help newcomers.
Prayers for sermon as sweet license to rise up to the Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit enlighten us to Hear the Word of Scripture this Sunday morning ❤❤Amen and Amen
Excerpt of M.Henry's on Psalm 142.....compare to Spurgeon at 30' to 31' We are apt to show our trouble too much to ourselves, aggravating it, and poring upon it, which does us no service, whereas by showing it to God we might cast the care upon him who careth for us, and thereby ease ourselves
Hi jillsy. Nice to see you still following Spurgeon and I am too. He is my 'springboard' for new discovery like Philip Doddridge. Your comment about his use of difficult language still comes to mind when he uses terms unfamiliar to me and likely others too. There is another site which modifies the words but they also interject new language and the voice is not inflected which makes me think they are trying to use AI. Being relatively new to the Bible I follow 'the old time religion' of Spurgeon..
Hi there, Friend! Just look up the words you don't know. It's fun to learn new words anyway! Translating into modern (easy) language much is lost. I read a "modern translation" of Madame Guyon's autobiography and it was horrific! Better to just learn new words. Be blessed😘🙏🏽💕
@@jillsy2815nice to hear from you. Madame guyon is somewhat familiar to me. Almost sure her uncle was a priest and he wrote a book of meditations that a guy I know and talk with fairly regularly relies on the book that her uncle wrote. A staunch Catholic and he tries to convince me that since I was baptized a Catholic I am still a Catholic. I don't recall her uncle's name right now and I tried to call my acquaintance the Catholic couldn't get a hold of him. Do you know who her uncle is the priest?
@@jillsy2815 Heard from a RC acquaintance today and he reminded me the cousin of Madame Guyon is Archbishop Francois Fenelon. Wikipedia's article about Fenelon is very interesting regarding him being quite esteemed by maybe even A.W.Tozer who may also be a relatively well focused, toward Jesus' Gospel, preacher like Spurgeon. Pray all is well with you
Psalm 34 10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing. 11 Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. 12 Who is the man who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good?
Revisiting and at 4'53"-5'21" a great understatement? "....they are Elementary only because they are essential...". Spurgeon is here telling of what are 'absolute essentials'. Possibly Spurgeon's amanuensis (person writing down his sermon) may have at times not been able to correctly write word for word!?!? Another possibility:? The adage 'familiarity breeds contempt' may have been a reason for what seems a lost opportunity for Spurgeon to drive home this 'absolute essential'. Though possibly in a more moderate sense as Spurgeon was subject to depression and he could have also been what we today might call a 'workaholic' and at times exhaust himself.

I didn’t even know people wanted to be talked to! I always used to try to sneak in and out 😬
