What do you want the ship to do is the best way to answer this question. Do you want a ship that can hit and run, without being at risk for long engagements, and survive on every single run? If your answer is yes, you want the polaris. Do you want a ship that gets into the fight, stays in the fight until the fight is over, tanks whatever is out there the whole time, and blasts back? Then you want the Perseus. They are both corvettes with the same overall intent; punch above the weight class and hit other ships of the line really damn hard, disrupt other fleets or force recons, and survive. How they do that is what makes the difference. Do you want to sit there and slug it out, brawl with everything else on the field, or do you want to approach, evaluate the engagement, then pick a single target, hit it as hard as you can with the biggest hammer you can swing, and then regroup? Whichever you choose will determine the ship you pick. If you want to do both, pick up one of both. Oh, just one correction. The Polaris as listed on RSI's information has four racks of torpedoes with 7x torps in each rack. It has 28 torps.
Good advice, but I have a very specific use case for my Polaris: Mobile base. I don't intend to fight in it much, but using it as a base of operations in Pyro, especially when I have any of my friends with me. When I don't, 600i (post rework) will probably be the way to go. It's a lot of ship to only use for that, but with starting with a referral bonus ship and all my long term CCUs, my Polaris is only $130, so totes worth it to me. Still sitting on an upgrade to an Odyssey though, cause that might end up being the better base.
I bought the perseus, looking a the price difference it's hard to justify not going a little further for the Polaris. But I liked the minimal crew needed for the perseus as opposed to my hammerhead. And in terms of a mobile base I also have a kraken. So I didn't need two mobile bases and the agility of the perseus seems like it would make a better escort ship for the kraken. Considering the kraken is still probably a half decade off of getting worked on. I hope they give us a Polaris as a substitute until they make the kraken.

@@awsm253I haven’t seen anyone complaining about being unable to use a giant ship at full effectiveness while solo. I’ve seen a lot of people saying others are complaining about it.
I imagine using the Polaris much like I use the Carrack, it's my home base even solo, I park 4 fury fighters in the hanger, park the carrack 20km away from my target, complete missions and fly back, if I die, my Carrack is outfitted with replacement gear and I love flying it solo or with a group. I think the Polaris will just be the RSI version of that but better because of the larger hanger, better components and it's going to feel awesome to fly.

Food, drink, RMC, ammo, armour, weapons, etc, will all be part of prepping ships prior to missions, which will likely make losing one, a lot more painful, due to all the prep, especially for missions several JP away. That will likely be one of the major limiting factors for the solo players, as it will be safer in fleets, and with an actual crew.
If this is sonething you may want in the future. Buy a ccu token from the closest next ship while the warbond deal is active. Shave some price off the ship and have a placeholder if you decide to want it later. Can really knock down a lot of cost by being patient and locking up low cost ccu upgrades.
I pledged for both ships! My org will have two Polaris ships, including mine. I'm just as excited to get the Perseus in my hands whenever that happens.
Seems to me that the Nursa was a pretty decent buff to the Perseus, giving it access to a med bed and something to use if you end up doing some planetside stuff. Between that and the ability to house a snub or two like a Mirai Fury, even if you end up having an extra person or two over the recommended crew, you could probably find a use for them, and it adds to the versatility of the ship (granted it still doesn't rival Polaris's versatility). A snub or two could also help the Perseus to better withstand fighter swarms, which are speculated to be one of its weaknesses. To me, selling points for the Perseus over the Polaris are mainly that its easier to crew (between NPC crew and AI blades you could probably make it work comfortably with 3 people), missiles for the pilot allowing them to have more fun in combat, and lower operating costs. The thing is built to use its massive guns and armored hull to bully sub cap ships, and its ammo is likely to be a lot cheaper than the massive missiles the Polaris will be throwing.
This is exactly how I feel about this ships! Thats why I learned toward Perseus! I have a rare amount of time my Team is all on constantly at the same time. so the Perseus would be batter as I can at least fire torpedo's from pilot seat. I'm not really into just buying to buy it has to make sense and the Polaris is to big , I don't have the constant team play to justify buying it.
I have to agree with much of what you were saying about the Perseus being a far better choice for smaller groups. Me personally, I love the Perseus for what it offers, and as far as not having a med bed I say this. Bring a Nursa (Ursa Medical) and problem solved, which is what I will be doing. The fact it has 2 big gun turrets and at least one remote small gun turret is a big selling point to me and I am sure many others. At the end of the day, for a daily driver for doing bunkers and bounties I see the Perseus being the goto ship for many people. It also doubles as backup in all scenarios that I can think of. Need some extra firepower? Grab a Perseus and 3 or 4 people and you are set. There are really only 2 things holding this ship back in my eyes. The shields seem weak for it, but have read that the armor is really good... and also the smaller gun turret seems to be just the one, and would be nice to have a second smaller gun turret. So aside from the shields being mediocre and the single smaller gun I give this an 8 out of 10. No medical bed also holds it back, but can fit an Ursa Medical, so there is that. Also, having 2 shields like the Hercules line has would also be nice big bonus.
The Polaris is not looking as cool as I was thinking. Seems like artists tried too hard to make the hull look like....something. The Perseus needs a lot more auto turrets. 2 is just not enough. It needs 4 or 5 really.
Ever since my Redeemer got nerfed from Gunship to Glorified Heavy Fighter. I've been thinking of upgrading to a Polaris. I wanted a gunship. A Crew ship. something to take after ERT's and cause some real damage. But that was before I was reminded the Perceus exists. Looking at it, the Polaris is much more of a Fleet ship, something to be used in large battles. The perceus is definitely more of a versatile platform. something to go Hunting Bounties or to fly supportive in bigger groups. Maybe it's not as well armed and armored. Or capable as a Missile boat. But it's definitely more Role Fitting for more jobs
I completely agree, I want the perseus over the polaris all day. The perseus is just so far out timeline wise that the polaris will be a blast to turn into my solo base that can pick up my buddies and turn into a powerhouse until the perseus comes along!
The Polaris is a great fit for the Corvette class, while the Idris is perfect for the Frigate class. The Javelin fits the Destroyer class well, and the Bengal is a strong contender for the Cruiser class. The Retribution is a fantastic fit for the Battleship class.
I know this may be controversial opinion, but as much as I love the Polaris, it is just too big for my uses, I even feel the Carrack is too big for most things I do in the verse and I love the feel of the Carrack and how fun it would be to have a full crew on it at all times, but reality is that not everyone is always into 'lets crew up for a quick run today'
Shortly after the Carrack released, there was a lot of buyers remorse as folks figured out they couldn't solo the ship in combat. I think we'll see the same w/the Polaris
_Originally_ they were clear eye-glasses. Then, a few patches ago, when they changed it so that glasses stayed with you after death, they were darkly tinted. Now with 3.23, they're still tinted but it's very light.
Looks like the Polaris is going to be a bigger Retaliator bomber with a couple extra features. If you haven't had much use out of the Retaliator, you probably won't have much use for the Polaris either. If you have and you have a big enough group to man the Polaris, it might be worth considering.
I've really just bought ships to fund the game and have ended up with a few quids worth of big ships including the Polaris. Now I'm having to think about what to do with them while I'm scrapping ships in the Vulture. The game's definitely taken a big jump in playability, so I'll have to start looking for crew.
test squad best squad. honestly 2 different roles for ships. do you want a gunship with some s5 torps or a torpedo boat with s10s that can double up as a mobile base. don't know enough about blades and npc's for the crew thing but thats prob a decade away as far as the crew goes :/ oh yeah and CIG has always said it's gonna cost money to take bigger ships out.
I'm sitting on a CCU chain currently at C2 but with upgrades to the 600i or the Carrack but I still secretly want a large military ship. I somehow managed to talk myself out of locking in the current price for the Polaris because of so many reasons. But since true exploration feels like a decade away, I'll might choose to pew pew with the Perseus if AI crew comes in the next 2 years, plus shark cards because I'll never be able to run these ships with the money I make in-game.
I had a Perseus, today I upgraded to the Polaris for $25, it's just so much more ship for the money, but I am a little sad because the Percy would be perfect for our org
This was such a good video, I hate to say that the desire for 'big ship, rawr' pulls hard at me. I've got some CCUs to get to a Polaris, but your thoughts on the Perseus made a lot of sense - I don't do a big org, maybe 3-4 people at most generally, and my average use case is 1-2 people. I don't really need a Polaris, and there's nothing stopping me from buying it in game one day! Thanks for thinking rationally for me 🤣.
For me, its the Perseus. Always has been, always will be. I was never excited about the Polaris because the bridge is up front and center whereas the Perseus looks like a more traditional warship. (it just fits my aesthetics. Also big fuckoff guns. Big Guns Go Boom.) I'll definitely be buying a Perseus in the future from the store. Ain't no way I am spending half a year to a year grinding for that thing in the 'verse one day when the game is released.
Great informative video! I went ahead with that Perseus seeing as that was the one and only big ship I wanted to get for me and my old buddies. Saw the design, love it and now I'm finally investing in it! It's true that you can always get the ships ingame, but then some wipes take them off your roster unless you get the LTI right?
Salute! They usually make the new ships purchasable in-game 3-6 months after release. LTI doesn't affect anything right now, but when the game goes live it just means you won't have to pay insurance premiums in the game to replace the LTI ships you purchased with cash.
Remember it is never how much you saved on that "one ship," it is all about, all together, how much have you spent on the ship side of your gaming hobby?
@@royzevisionneur2045 I'm a $ 400 ccu percy cap' and my only other ship is atitan so i'll actually be in my ship, (even if noone's there to guide the guns.) If you ever want to know a percy to back up that capital class radar, and cover your flank as you choose who ya sinking. it will make a fine clubhouse!
That is a thing that I have always thought about capital class ships. You should get them unless your getting them for an org. I think people think that they can just hire a bunch of NPCs (in the future) and it will basically but a giant win button. But, I don't know how well that is going to work. I do think that hiring a bunch of NPCs to work in the mess or mop the floors, but I don't know if I want them doing the engineering.
I have a perseus to polaris ccu sitting in my inventory, but I definitely want to see the perseus first. Those big cannons just speak to me in a way that polaris doesn't. And If I desperately need a med bed that badly... I have a Pisces! Also a 600i but no idea when the rework will be done.
I agree with your video 100% though one thing to mention is that this is rsi and look what happened with the merchantman. Double the size and loaded with more guns. The fact that the price of the Perseus is incredibly close to Polaris and merchantman. I have a feeling they might be reevaluating the size and what is included with the Perseus.
Yeah BMM & some other older ships were concepted before the current metrics were solidified & had to be brought up to spec. Perseus was announced in 2020 so may not see any significant change.
I really like your prediction on how the Polaris will spend most of its time in a hangar next to an empty Hammerhead for most people. This is a point I've been stressing to all of my org friends who have them. We can only get about 4-6 people online on a very good day, of which there are few, and more than half of them have a Polaris. Not looking very good in my opinion.
I own a perseus myself but im wondering if melting my C1 and upgrading to the polaris. Except i dont have a crew to play with a Polaris. On a good day i may have 4 people but usually o have 2. Im hoping they might make the size 7 perseus guns size 8 or 9 or really give it that true destroyer feel with its firepower.
I have both and honestly i think I’ll use the Perseus 9/10 times. Easier to crew, still large damage output and I don’t really see there being many Polaris’s ina space battle. We may have 1 each side in huge org battles but it’ll be pretty limited I think.
I look at it as what do you want to do with it. If you want to go F shit up in combat, then grab the Perseus. If you want a torp thrower or a bigger Carrack then get the Polaris. Either way you will need a group of people to fly either effectively.
Great take. Polaris was always my end-game ship. But the Perseus will replace my Redeemer at some point. It is not only one of the best designs of the game, but it is also the most practical for smaller groups of players. Why give your friend a size 5 turret when you can give them a size 7?
Is player game-side ship rental going to be a thing? If so, I missed it. If not, I think CIG should consider it. Then all the peeps like me who bought ships they may or may not be able to crew (because times changed), they have a way to justify their purchase, and maybe make some fake money back. Also, this would help facilitate the whale rationalization for the immediate future to buy more big ships. I'm not gonna buy. But I bet many only need that bit to push them on tilt.
You are the coolest Star Citizen cat around! I'd love to hang with you in the verse sometime! Do you have an org or anything? I've owned my Polaris for what feels like an age, I honestly cant wait to get it fully crewed out with the lads...when I can 😁 I wont ever be soloing it, I wont even bother flying it out of the hanger if I dont have enough people, I'm enjoying the game the way I'm playing it now and the Polaris will only ever leave the hanger when its really called for and fully crewed
NPCs are going to be a resource that you can hire. You will have to pay for them but if you can afford to hire 2 or 3 NPCs then have the rest of the crew made up of your friends that will go a long way to making some of these larger ships viable options for smaller groups.
Polaris is just if you want to blow up a big ship..... other than that it has no other use.... you need plenty of crew which you should be always in a group. I think loner players, or each player should only have one big ship... because they are difficult to manage for now.... unless NPC will be available to hire in future yes. For now Medium ships is good enough... just put one large ship in your collection just in case your group wanted to group up.
My dumbass bought one when it was announced. If it didn't have a medbay, I'd have melted it. Having a medbay+hangar makes it a pretty nice base to run out of.
I think there will be quite a few ships in mothballs. Way to many ships for the number of captains (multiple ships /account), lets not even discuss the crew shortage.
49 out of 50 Polaris will have nobody in the captains chair. Agree or nah?

A Starfarer sized ship for bunkers! Your character definitely gonna get his daily 10,000 steps in!
The Polaris is not looking as cool as I was thinking. Seems like artists tried too hard to make the hull look like....something. The Perseus needs a lot more auto turrets. 2 is just not enough. It needs 4 or 5 really.
Been far too long since your videos have shown up in my feed, but I’m glad it did. :)
Good to hear!
Appreciate the video. Keep up the great work love the energy!
I have one. But I also want a Kraken. Might melt it later. But for now .. . BABOOM!
Don't melt it. Save for it.
@@nuclearsimian3281 good advice. No doubt
Perseus is what im waiting on. I simply think it looks the best out of the lot
You also disappointed that what were nice sunglasses in 3.22 now just seem to be mildly opaque in 3.23? Those were the ones I was using too.
lol I didn't notice! They used to be darker?
_Originally_ they were clear eye-glasses. Then, a few patches ago, when they changed it so that glasses stayed with you after death, they were darkly tinted. Now with 3.23, they're still tinted but it's very light.
Hey man , please where can I order / buy it ? Or when it will be avaible for buy ? Thanks 🙏
Having a Nursa or a Pisces Medical onboard any big ship can mitigate lack of medbay.
Looks like the Polaris is going to be a bigger Retaliator bomber with a couple extra features. If you haven't had much use out of the Retaliator, you probably won't have much use for the Polaris either. If you have and you have a big enough group to man the Polaris, it might be worth considering.
I'm goin Perseus. Almost there. Got it down to almost half off.
I just bought the Herc A2 for $750. I'm surprised these 2 ships don't cost more.
Ships are always cheaper in concept. They'll get more expensive.
I snagged a Kraken, Polaris, and ironclad this ILW. super stoked
Wow, you must play w/a ton of people
@@DigThat32 i am a member of NOVA intergalactic. i have thousands of members to choose from. a regular org op for us is an entire 100 person server.
I know this is about the Polaris but seeing that BMM in the police line up brought a lump to my throat. One day…
lol Yeah I had to include the BMM just to see it in a video again
I've really just bought ships to fund the game and have ended up with a few quids worth of big ships including the Polaris. Now I'm having to think about what to do with them while I'm scrapping ships in the Vulture. The game's definitely taken a big jump in playability, so I'll have to start looking for crew.
Great info, noice video. Thank you.
Yaaaarrr !!!

Lol 😆
test squad best squad. honestly 2 different roles for ships. do you want a gunship with some s5 torps or a torpedo boat with s10s that can double up as a mobile base. don't know enough about blades and npc's for the crew thing but thats prob a decade away as far as the crew goes :/ oh yeah and CIG has always said it's gonna cost money to take bigger ships out.
TEST BEST o7
Return back to the perseus and work up a BMM instead.
Where can I find these glasses at the beginning of the video?
Buried in the subscriber store
I couldn't find it, do you have the link?
For me, its the Perseus. Always has been, always will be. I was never excited about the Polaris because the bridge is up front and center whereas the Perseus looks like a more traditional warship. (it just fits my aesthetics. Also big fuckoff guns. Big Guns Go Boom.)
I'll definitely be buying a Perseus in the future from the store. Ain't no way I am spending half a year to a year grinding for that thing in the 'verse one day when the game is released.
I do like the Perseus bridge better
Great informative video! I went ahead with that Perseus seeing as that was the one and only big ship I wanted to get for me and my old buddies. Saw the design, love it and now I'm finally investing in it! It's true that you can always get the ships ingame, but then some wipes take them off your roster unless you get the LTI right?
Salute!
They usually make the new ships purchasable in-game 3-6 months after release. LTI doesn't affect anything right now, but when the game goes live it just means you won't have to pay insurance premiums in the game to replace the LTI ships you purchased with cash.
Speaking like a Vulcan whilst most wield their wallets like a Klingon. Wise words good sir.
Right on Andy Dufresne! (I think that's how you spell it)
Keep both. I am upgrading the Odyssey though
Polaris, when you have to have everyone on the server in order to do anything.
Bro thank you for help me see past my fomo lol. That why your one of the best UA-camr out here .🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Right on Broski!
I bought both 😅
Attaboy 😂❤
Remember it is never how much you saved on that "one ship," it is all about, all together, how much have you spent on the ship side of your gaming hobby?
$750 well spent 😌
@@royzevisionneur2045 I'm a $ 400 ccu percy cap' and my only other ship is atitan so i'll actually be in my ship, (even if noone's there to guide the guns.) If you ever want to know a percy to back up that capital class radar, and cover your flank as you choose who ya sinking. it will make a fine clubhouse!
Great video man !
Man I agree. There's gonna be so much buyer's remorse after the honey moon is over.
@@DigThat32 what do you think will happen? will it be a catastrophic controversy?
@DjangoLowe Nah. Folks will complain like usual & it'll blow over like it did when people figured out they couldn't solo the Carrack.
The bigger question is how many fury snub fighters can we fight in this thing?
Might upgrade my Carrick to this
Is Polaris cargo capacity not 216scu anymore?
I hope not too many people get this. Even 1:20 players owning one would be too many. It needs crew and escort.
Well I have Idris K / Polaris / Perseus and Nautilus so I'm set for Big military ships
I can't fully crew my MSR 😢
I look at it as what do you want to do with it. If you want to go F shit up in combat, then grab the Perseus. If you want a torp thrower or a bigger Carrack then get the Polaris. Either way you will need a group of people to fly either effectively.
Will be a digital collector's item until we get true group player available, meaning ship crew logouts or AI crews members.
Upgrade was like 15 bucks during last IAE from Perseus. No brainer at the time.
I ate the ops
Great take. Polaris was always my end-game ship. But the Perseus will replace my Redeemer at some point. It is not only one of the best designs of the game, but it is also the most practical for smaller groups of players. Why give your friend a size 5 turret when you can give them a size 7?
Polaris is awesome but i think its going to be easy to find one to hop aboard. People think they gonna solo the Polaris I think hell nah.
@@The_Draque lol and especially now with the engineering gameplay and needed people to walk around to keep the ship in good standings
how did u find these prices? are they confirmed?
now they introduse the Irronglad great
on the RSI website it literally says 7 per rack and it has 4 racks 7x4=28 torpedos
That specifically hasn't been mentioned, but within the new ownership features shown at Citizencon, it's not out of the question.
There's a link to the Discord in the description. Right now they're doin' a weekly event. I believe it's a race for 2 million credits.
@@DigThat32 cheers mate I've joined! Wondering Star is my Discord name so I'll be around on there
Words of reason cut through the hype!
Your length of the Polaris is the size of the bounding box.
Welp found the person ill be getting my star citizen info from. Just got the game today.
Welcome..
NPCs are going to be a resource that you can hire. You will have to pay for them but if you can afford to hire 2 or 3 NPCs then have the rest of the crew made up of your friends that will go a long way to making some of these larger ships viable options for smaller groups.
True about most of it but some of the stats you mentioned are just wrong
Throw a Nursa in the Perseus and you got a decent setup
Polaris is just if you want to blow up a big ship..... other than that it has no other use.... you need plenty of crew which you should be always in a group. I think loner players, or each player should only have one big ship... because they are difficult to manage for now.... unless NPC will be available to hire in future yes. For now Medium ships is good enough... just put one large ship in your collection just in case your group wanted to group up.
Haha I can't fully crew a cutty black most nights 😂
Ha! I think most people are in the same situation
My dumbass bought one when it was announced. If it didn't have a medbay, I'd have melted it. Having a medbay+hangar makes it a pretty nice base to run out of.
I stand on the carrack for a mobil base
I think Polaris have kinda 360° missiles spamming said anti-fighter turrets.
I think there will be quite a few ships in mothballs. Way to many ships for the number of captains (multiple ships /account), lets not even discuss the crew shortage.
Perseus is the ship I'm looking forward to the most. Yet I will earn it in game, because it isn't anywhere near worth the irl cost
cool, thx
Star Citizen is a great idea and all but, in my opinion, none of the ships are worth the amount they're charging.
Lotta folks get a basic $45 package & earn the ships they want in-game. It's a more rewarding way to play.
After the ursa, almost every big ship has a med bay now 😂
I keep my Perseus. i prefer big pew pew over big torps.
Just traded my HH up for it. Worth it to me. We also started doing videos after you asked us before. Add us up and we can do stuff together sometime.
