I began school in '71. Here is E. all taut, trim and terrific. I think the year 1971 seems to be a bit overshadowed in the life of Elvis Presley: 1970 had a motion picture, 1972 had Elvis On Tour, while early '73 had the ground-breaking satellite show from Hawaii.
You’re not wrong. The prospect of doing 60 shows in a month, 2 a night, twice a year and keeping the energy level high for all of them had to be mentally and physically exhausting. Over time, he simply found a less demanding way to perform.
This was 2 days before the end of the Las Vegas Summer engagement and Elvis’s performance here is in such contrast to that of just a year before. Elvis seems bored, and tired and is just mailing it in. It’s a shame, but it goes back to the Colonel’s endless and arduous scheduling. Elvis needed a break.

I know the fans see Elvis through fan goggles but IMO this is pretty lackluster in comparison to his Vegas performances from the previous year.
