  • THRIFT STORE FINDS & ANTIQUES | RESELLING | EXPLORING A NEW STORE
    "The van just went there!" Today's two new (to us) stores are both random finds near roadside gas stops, and while we get no credit for discovering them, they both prove great for finding antiques, vintage and reseller thrift finds!
    Our first is a thrift shop at the end of a Pennsylvania offramp, where the road literally empties into their parking lot. How could that not be a sign? I may not know where I am, but I can sniff out a bargain, and this store has a variety of vintage that is well priced for resale...$3 for a $15 Fenton bell, a $40 ice bucket for $4.99 and two pairs of vintage earrings that collectors like to wear at just a few dollars each rival the Goodwill finds I see in other thrifting videos from around Waynesburg, Pennsylvania!
    We stop when the van tells us to in this video, so our second stop of this antique vintage shopping excursion is where a new antique store has appeared by our regular Sunoco gas stop! Lucky Finds Antiques & Vintage features more curated collectibles, but bargains are still possible and the variety of fun and interesting things to see in this surprisingly large antique shopping mall stir nostalgic memories while offering up a few reseller deals in the process. This stretch of highway outside Zanesville, Ohio is a must-drive for cross-country collectors!
    Here's a peek at some of what we locate in this episode:
    Glamour Girl lipstick holder, Mortons Pottery head vase, Cookson Pottery vase, bakelite ear clips, Trifari floral enameled clips, coconut monkey bowl, Corning harvest gold mugs, 1930s dog figure, Clarice Cliff Tonquin bone dish, Iris & Herringbone beverage set, Japanese head vases, MarCrest Daisy & Dot pitcher, 1960s modern walnut cabinet, tufted brocade armchair, tambour tv cabinet, 1970s dollhouse, 1930s waterfall bedroom set, 1950s log cabin chest of drawers, Austrian porcelain 1920s lamp conversion, Italian jeweled pedestal jar, Occupied Japan luster doll set,
    1940s Wildlife Stamp collection, 1952 Election tray, Westmoreland jadeite hand tray, 1970s green die cut skeleton and day-glo clown costume, Italian "Putz" house set, Austin Products praying Native maiden, 1960s Donald Duck cookie jar, 1890s Croesus pattern glass creamer, 1960s bowler "bobblehead" nodder, 1960s polka-dot tableware, circa 1900 paned library cabinet, Lane cedar chest, Mr. Peanut 1970s counter display, all-steel 1950s doll kitchen, 1930s folk art metal cottage, LaPere Decorating mini ewers, Stanford stylized geese console set, Westmoreland heart tray, 1950s telephone booth topper bell, 1970s Sunkist metal foot locker, Rock-'Em-Sock-'Em Robots, Emerson tube radio, Brush-McCoy stagecoach planter, Hull Puss-in-Boots planter, Little-Bo-Peep & Little Boy Blue linen prints, Bohemian cut ruby flash decanter set, Nemadji Pottery, Mosaic panther ashtray, yardstick table, US Army circa WWI foot locker, etc.

    Aw, I collect, "Made in Occupied Japan," Children's play set dishes - Contemporary. My grandmas started me on those. 101 yr old Auntie, firstborn of 8 & mom, baby of the bunch, had me learning about costume jewelry, buying it. Just lost both. Funniest thing, mom wanted Swarovski and Tourmaline, so spent 4 years trying to find what she wants. Then, she got sick. But those Swarovski beads, discontinued and Tourmaline went right through the roof!! So, mom helped me, in a strange way.

      @@TheAntiqueNomad Yes, she did! It began when we robbed of our favorite gems and jewelry, while I was a Sophomore in HS. She soon married my stepdad, he heard what happened, one emotional Friday. That weekend, he surprised us with a 6" faceting machine, along with semiprecious rough! We three, learned to use it, together, while my siblings did other things. We didn't replace, we created new jewelry, some with ostentatiously huge stones! We also took on the challenge of cabbing Star Rubies and Sapphires! My fave: Faceting grandma's fire opal! Took the 3 of us, taking turns working it fast and furious, stopping before it got hot! Gorgeous 😍

    We have refurbished a China cabinet and put in our master bathroom for towels and toiletries. Looks really pretty! I have a mid century cabinet I keep my Scooby Doo collection in. The back is papered with 1960’s “groovy” wallpaper. Thinking of finding some Scooby Doo paper instead. I have seen the top portions of cabinets incorporated in with existing kitchen cabinetry. Some put sinks in old dressers. Looks great! There are all kinds of things to do! Put a China cabinet in the bedroom for sweaters! I have a hutch in my closet for our underwear and socks. Works out wonderfully! Just get creative!

    That hideous chair could go two ways - you’d have to find the right fabric but it could be made to look like a seashell or you could go mad and use bright red leather or a British racing green coloured leather to reupholster

    Hi George. That chair would be tamed 🤣 some by placing it in a room with solid colors. With a vintage throw laid across. A nice comfy chair for a bedroom corner to sit and put your sock n shoes on. With some rich wood bedroom furniture. BUT The chest of drawers with the log cabin etched between the 2 drawers? If you push slightly on it does it pop opened for a "hidden cubby" or reach under it and slide a drawer? It seems odd for that to be just a wasted decorative space between the 2 drawers. Hmm Nice Store. Glad you stopped for gas. Safe Travels 🌹

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  Рік тому +1

      I think that's a really good and thoughtful way to style that chair, it could be a fun pop of color if it was the only pattern in the room! I would have thought that panel would reveal a drawer but I guess it was just decoration

    Good evening, George! I have an "Iris and Herringbone" water set, but mine is in marigold. The clear ones are older but don't seem to price as much as the marigold. OMG!!! Don't say the blue geese are coming back 🤣 I hated those things when they were..."popular"😐😂 Those vase/lamp conversions make me sad. I liked the green Czech decanter set better than the purple 😉😆 I like the Napco head vases best of any of them. There were some interesting ones there, though. I'd like to have a Marilyn Monroe and a Jackie Kennedy. Loved that turn of the century cabinet with the "sweeps" on each side! Lots of nice, interesting things in all those shops! Thanks for the take-along!!!

      Hello! I am so dreadfully behind but finally catching up on old comments, I am very appreciative of them even if it takes awhile to say so! I like the Marigold Iris beverage set a lot. I was not a blue geese fan either, but you know someone's grandma had it and loved it, so it will come back...the green was in better condition, so I bought it...I'd also love to have a Marilyn and Jackie Kennedy head vase, but I never have found any I could afford! Thanks for watching and letting me know your thoughts, I always enjoy reading them

      @@TheAntiqueNomad Well, I guess, if it does come back, I could use the blue geese things in the garage...to store nails and screws 😏😆🤣 Yeah, the MM and Jackie Kennedy head vases can be eyewatering in price. I've seen some of them priced well over the $1000.00 mark. That was some time ago, though, and I have no idea what they price now. If you've noticed, I usually comment only on items that interest me. The MCM stuff really doesn't catch my attention too much, (and I just really don't like kitsch), but there are a few pieces with designs that interest me. I'm happy you bought the green set!

      @TheAntiqueNomad  Рік тому

      That's a great problem to have, but you sure get a shock when you come in and everything that was on the bookcase is now on the floor! It's hard to strike a balance between needing to sell enough stock to cover rent and make something, while merchandising in a way that features the best items and makes people visualize having it in their homes! A good merchandiser would do what I do and then edit by taking a box or two out...but as much as I travel, I just have to let it be stuffed so there's enough left as things sell between my visits.

    Thank you for an enjoyable time. I kept thinking the pink and gray geese you looked at reminded me of howard pierce pottery. Do you know if his pottery is something that is less collectable now?

      I still love it, and he has adherents, but it isn't as big a seller these days. Scarce pieces still go really well though, and I don't think prices have really fallen, just the turn is slower.

    Well, I have a chair exactly like the "hideous" one, except mine is off white. Lol

      I think that would be a better color for it! Although...one viewer described how she would use it in a certain setting, and I have to admit it sounded like it would be attractive

    I know it's a broad question, but if you were to start collecting something from the 1800's, what would it be?

      I am collecting Morgan silver dollars from the 1800s currently...I also like Victorian fans, Eastlake furniture, marble top tables...and if you can find original fairy lamps from that era, that's another cool thing! But I really like antique advertising and trade cards and early chromolithography the most from that era

    11:02 Lady head vases were over priced and over valued even way back in the beginning of the collectible universe in the early 1980s. There is an unending supply of them and when you see the prices ; it's like "OK, move on". NEVER room for resale with Lady Heads. I just don't get it. They should be $20.00 to $40.00 (NOT $40.00 - $80.00) .
