As of late it seems like almost all female leads just have OP abilities right of the bat. No training, no character build up, they just have it just because. If hollywood want to go this route they should at least make the movie great.
Yeah but see if a woman had to work or train to be powerful it wouldn't be an empowered woman. Empowered women can't face too many struggles
Hollywood wants to be able to say they are making movies with diverse characters, but they don't want to do any of the work of actual character development. It's tokenism. It's a PR move.

Jason Scott Lee was great as Bruce Lee in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. Though that movie came out 27 years ago, time waits for no one since Jason is now 53 years old, and looks more like an Asian Danny Trejo than Bruce Lee these days.

(I'm a Don't-Blink appearance, attending Emma Stones's character's one-woman-show; I was Just able to spot me as I knew where to look... a screenwriter friend who was unaware I'd worked on it notified me he'd spotted me...)
My wife is Chinese. We live in China.
She didnt see that the film had any connection to the Chinese story at all but she enjoyed it as a typical American film but most interestingly she pointed out that the woman (Mulan) did not save anyone because in the end the Emperor saved himself. She liked the idea that the emperor saved himself because he is the Chinese emperor and so he is the most powerful. She also pointed out that the original story is all about family values but America isnt the kind of culture to understand this.
No good sir, Hollywood isn't the type of culture that understands this.

When I was a child, Disney was all all about low-budget made-for-TV sequels to some of their classic movies (The Shaggy Dog 2, The Parent Trap 2, 3 and 4), some specials of the week (Mr. Boogedy and the like) and cartoons. There was still some hype about going to Disney World, but the Disney seal wasn't exactly recognized as a one of quality, as it had apparently once been.

Wait she thought the live action version was going to be better? That doesn't make sense, doing it better would require doing something new and inventive with it, but aside from the adaptations of the old movies, Dumbo and Pete's Dragon, they already had proven that they didn't want to do that, so I don't see how Mulan was ever going to be any better than the original.
That being said, some say Pete's dragon was the first live action adaptation to be better then the original.
I hated it. Mulan 2020 completely dishonours the original.

Hey Jaby hey Natasha, great reaction...Jaby u seem to be constantly around beautiful women brother, u hav sum life.....anyway yeah like Natasha i liked the film when i was watching it but after i did i felt like u Jabi, like the film had no soul and i think it was just down to the nostalgia for the reason i was so positive watching it but it really was just not good at all... i actually thought about the father being sent home right after, how did the writer over look that and for me the most feminine boy i had ever seen was so distracting too, who was Mulan fooling.. not believable at all. Immediately after i watched this Pitch Meeting video and was like he is 100% right, it is a mess of a movie...so wanted it to be good, the trailers got me pumped!...For me Dumbo and Jungle Book were the best live action remakes Disney have done, i also enjoyed the 'live action' Lion King movie too....Thanks for the video guys, keep giving us that honest content Jaby and gud luk with everything Natasha, u are just too beautiful Natasha, ur boyfriend or whomever is a lucky Dude....anyway mad love from Ireland....Till the next Disney Frankenstein Live Action remake!!

I didn't need the songs. I didn't need Mushu. I didn't need any of that. All I wanted was a *Good* Live action movie about Mulan and her rise to success. It's my favorite disney movie and i'm sad they flubbed it. v_v

I would watch a live action Mulan 2 I would and I might be a only one and that's what I hate about this world
The last thing Mulan made was sense.
They literally undid EVERYTHING that made the original great in favor of "girl power WOHO!"
The whole original she was lacking in strength and endurance and had to resort to her wits.
Being cleaver, finding new and better ways to do shit.
Now she's basically Neo from the Matrix.
She is "the chosen one" who is stronger, faster and better than everyone else due to some mystical power and preordained destiny.
She's no longer a self-made character but a tool for a greater power.
How the hell does that "make sense"?
This is also what is so infuriatingly fake about Hollywood Feminism.
The original Mulan is a very empowering message and a strong female hero.
There is nothing explicit but you could call it a feminist movie.
But they completely ignored that to make this Virtue signal cluster-Fakk.
How is this empowering?
Nothing she does is because she's a woman but because she has the strongest chi, if a man had the strongest chi, he would've been the lead.

I liked Mulan too I don't know why everyone hated, I really am not a fan of the ogs but the new one is really good and the new story without the songs was a nice thing to do cuz Mulan is a warrior and the stuff they removed made her more of it. And a lot of people didn't understand the reason of the phoenix but I will tell about it in the reply of this comment
The phoenix is a bird who can fly even with her wing broken, just like how Mulan can fight and be a warrior even with her being a girl. The phoenix and Mulan similar in many ways and this is just one of them.
You know, comparing being injured or having a broken limb and being a woman might not be the best analogy in the world
I actually really liked the live action Mulan. You're wrong about her not having anything to give in the original. She may not have had chi or jedi powers, but ahe was already far more intelligent than the men. It was that which allowed her to reach the arrow and defeat the Hun. What held her back waa pretending to be something she's not and hiding her true self. So in that respect both versions aren't that different.
