  • With its performance in our tests, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra has secured itself a position among the top part of the DXOMARK camera ranking, ahead of its predecessors the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 12S Ultra.
Overall, compared with its predecessors, the 13 Ultra shows improvements in zoom, video color, and autofocus, but remains out of the top because of poor bokeh rendering, exposure instabilities, video artifacts, noise, and stabilization limitations.
Like all devices that undergo the DXOMARK Camera protocol, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra was tested in default mode.
    Please note:
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra enables two different default modes: Leica Vibrant & Leica Authentic. For default mode testing, DXOMARK image quality engineers used theVibrant one, as for previous Xiaomi devices.
The Xiaomi 13 Utra default aperture setting is a fixed f/1.9, even though the device features a variable aperture of f/1.9 and f/4.0, which can only be activated in settings. For the protocol, DXOMARK only tested the fixed default aperture of f/1.9. Out-of-protocol testing of the variable aperture feature on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra was not considered in the scoring.

Xiaomi 13 Ultra user here too. I didn't encounter these effects so far. It's supposed to be used as a street photography camera with instant 1 sec snapshot while on the move. You should try it. Even night mode takes 1sec to snap compared to other leading brands which requires 3seconds to render before snapping.
Do take note that this is the only android phone model that is able to capture 4k60p continuously for 1hour+ without any frame dropping. Try doing that on other android flagship brands and you will know what I mean.
Also do take note the nits max threshold of the screen. Manual adjustment is capped at lower number. IF you were to take all other android brands to do a daylight outdoor stress test, most models stated nits will drop below their stated figures after few mins. 13 Ultra is the only model that doesn't drop it's nits that much while maintaining the screen brightness. There's alot of extensive tests out there which wasn't being mentioned. Hope these info helps a little.
Sold off my GoPro Hero 11 Black and Huawei (no Google so sorry) ever since I bought and used 13 Ultra.

I've seen another review mention that there are currently two phones who can consistently shoot 4k60p for long periods of time w/o frame drops. This one and that other phone is the new Sony flagship.

    13 Ultra owner here.
That isn't the shutter, that's a mode you can turn on and off (Dynamic shots, basically a burst, just keep it on) and it tends to auto select the one with the best sharpness, you can go through them in gallery and save a copy of which one you want (this works in popular third party gallery apps like Google photos), this is only available in binned/normal mode. The shutter speed is genuinely the best out of any phone even with HDR and Dynamic shots, 50MP is also pretty fast but not amazin, this applies to all the rear cameras (5X seems a bit slower) and night mode is usually a lot shorter than other phones (0.5-2s not 3-5s) which means you usually don't need a tripod or gimble.
Not had that halo happen to even 1/5 of that extent, even when I did a 20x zoom of a speedboat, the only time it has happened to me is on ultrawide on an older phone and zooming in an unreasonable amount. Yes this phone sometimes has a tiny tiny halo but you really won't notice and you can always just spam the shutter since it won't lag.
Portrait mode is a nono and has been for years, Xiaomi definitely needs better recognition but it doesn't completely flop as much as other brands which have higher rating in bokeh.
Preview and capture difference? Well yes and no, that's literally just HDR and processing kicking in, once again in Dynamic shot, (you can tell because 50MP has no HDR or Dynamic shot option) also keep in mind you may have sunlight mode on (requires auto brightness to be on) which hugely changes the display colours whenever it activates.
Poor HDR performance in video.. yeah just don't use HDR in video, I didn't even know phones had that option, auto adjust ISO is literally turned on in another clip in this video, the HDR (video) mode is limited to just the main regardless of the resolution; not had those ghosting issues in video yet but I've had it happen on older Xiaomis when the phone is basically overheating which the 13 Ultra probably won't, someone's done a 1 hour test of 4K 60fps and it was fine.
Zoom quality definitely isn't that bad, all phones seemed to be shaken a bit but especially the 13U. Also tip with the zoom is that 50MP mode then cropping afterwards is usually better (unless it's really sunny) than just using the usual mode, I've had 5X photos which have been zoomed around 10X more (50X total) still look presentable...
Another tip would be to know when to use Authentic or Vibrant, use what you want but I hugely recommend swapping to Vibrant if you need HDR otherwise use whichever you want, I just use vibrant for ease then edit the saturation to be lower, less stylised than Authentic but ends up being more realistic.
Video didn't talk about Slowmotion, it's incredibly good (as it has a 1080p option) but 960-1920fps only allows like 2 seconds of recording in which the last quarter is slowed so it's kinda useless, 480fps is still decent and seems to not have a recording limit unlike other phones which are usually 10s, 30s, 60s
My only complaints with this phone have been the fact I'm on China ROM, no stylus, HDR could definitely be better but I think it's the best currently if you don't want the photos look overproccessed, battery life could be better but it's not bad (around 5-9h screen on, usually 8, other flagships are getting to 9-12h), MIUI requires you to change a lot of settings to make things work properly (specifically having to autostart apps so notifications actually work)

    • @DXOMARKofficial
      @DXOMARKofficial  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi there!
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra did a better job on Zoom performance compared to 11 Ultra (+5 points). However, it takes a strong step back on these 2 key points as you can see in the test results.
      1 - Autofocus (-17 points than 11 Ultra) :
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra shows discrepancies, struggling to capture the exact moment, making the capture either too early or too late. Its variable aperture is not activated by default which doesn’t allow it to focus all faces on group photos sometimes.
Also on the Mi11 Ultra, Xiaomi applied a specific AI function that identified the subject in the background and made it sharper (even though it had by default, from the hardware, a shallow depth of field).
      2-Bokeh (-10 points) :
The 11 Ultra provides a better rendering, with less segmentation errors that we can be observed in the 13 Ultra test materials. We hope that helps!

I am sorry, but are you at DXOMARK on crack or something? Did you have a watered down version of firmware in your test phone? As an owner of an Xperia 1 MK V and previous owner of the S23U, Honor Magic5 Pro, Pixel 7 Pro, Vivo x90 Plus and the Xiaomi mi 11 ultra I have to say you are doing a disservice to anyone interested in the Ultra 13. This phone (my version is the 16GB/512GB) is hands down the best camera snapper I have used to date, and easily tops those phones in speed, camera accuracy and quality with minimal over-processing. It is a joy to hold and actually makes photography in a mobile sense fun again.
