Instead of cancelling the past, concerned parent should communicate with their children & not rely on TV shows to raise their children. I grew up in the 70s/80s & I'm not racist, sexist, or abusive. Thanks to my parents that taught me right from wrong.
Your words are very wise and profound, people ultimately do learn from their parents rather than the media, which is what the censors need to learn, rather than trying to put the world in a plastic bubble.
Yes! So tired of having the woke dictating what is ok, and not ok. If I don't like something I don't watch it, it's that simple. Like the man said let the ratings decide.
This is the height of ridiculousness. I don’t understand why they think that a Mexican mouse that always wins is a slap to Hispanic culture, and in particular, Mexican culture. The fact that Speedy and his friends speak to one another in Spanish is clearly an acknowledgment and acceptance of Hispanic culture, not a caricature in the least. You could also say that it encourages kids to learn Spanish, just to figure out what the mice are saying. And what the heck is wrong with THAT???!!! I could say more (much more), but I’ve made my point. People should save their time and energy for real causes-and leave the cartoons alone.
I am so sick and tired of cancel culture! First it was Pepe LePew, and now it's Speedy Gonzales getting the axe! This political correctness is getting beyond the ridiculous point! Has society been that dumbed down to where they can't discern the difference between a cartoon and reality? This is just my take on the situation!
As a Mexican- American who grew up at the border around mexican culture and in a Mexican community, I can vouch that Speedy Gonzales is a much loved character and we love the representation. I've found that a lot of the people who pretend to be offended by something like this aren't even part of the culture not understand it. Most of them are white people over compensating for their white guilt, speaking for a whole community who aren't offended at all.
Whomever is responsible for cancel culture on social media should be locked up inside behind the bars and never come to hurt our youths generation. It’s distasteful and disrespectful. 😡
I grew up in the late 80's and early 90's. Almost all of my best friends were/still are Mexican, they all loved Speedy. I suppose this push to censor Speedy is due to people taking offense on their behalf.🙄
The fact that Latin Americans admire Speedy Gonzales, as well as the fact that the censors targeted him before but were overuled, is all the more reason why Speedy should not be cancelled.
I remember this previous cancellation, absolutely ridiculous. Speedy Gonzalez is a classic "David v Goliath" scenario. It is beyond absurd to stop a cartoon series being shown when there are real life problems in the USA that need addressing that actually impact people's quality of life
My dude--"Lately?" I remember this very topic coming up in the 90s. Whether or not you feel it appropriate, this has been grappled with for at least 30 years.
You way off. It goes a long way back . As far as modern media is concerned, it started about 1967. And in 1970 cartoons got canceled because the major sponsors that paid for them were cereal makers and toy and candy makers. So the kids don't deserve all the wonderful cartoons of pre 1970s any more. No more saturday morning to look forward to. Or after-school cartoons. And now all the anamation is dark and very disturbing just like video games and movies that kids are exposed to. The evil media of today seeks to reprogram the mind of society against its will. It is dangerous. And it is bitting us all in the asses , And must stop.
Do not cancel Speedy Gonzales just because in the Spanish version of the cartoon he calls Sylvester the cat "A gato Gringo." If we the people do not like a product, do not support it. Ask the management of Bud Light and their spokesperson.
The irony of cancelling Speedy Gonzalez: the only ones who think he's offensive to Mexico... are non-Mexicans. On a side note, I never liked Pepe le Peu, but I didn't launch a crusade to cancel Pepe cartoons. I just found something else to watch. Besides, the whole point of those cartoons was watching his efforts backfire. Maybe him coming on way too strong and never getting anywhere was the point? But this is the culture we live in: if you don't beat the message over people's heads like a shovel, they'll miss the point entirely
Honestly, while these past cartoons and the characters might not fit today's society and was racist, stereotyping, etc. I feel like we shouldn't censor them but before watching it, explain what isn't okay with it such as "this character represents a mammy, an African/ African American stereotype", stuff like that. Or "the way Black Americans are portrayed in this cartoon/episode was heavily based on stereotypes such as the Black characters having big lips"
Lego recently released Looney Tunes minifigures, including Speed Gonzales. I'm hope things will change & they'll include the other "offensive" characters like Elmer Fudd, Yo Semity Sam & Pepe LePew in the next minifigure series.
In regards to the point you brought up of censorship by studios it isn’t right. I would rather see the media uncensored and uncut as it was originally made warts and all and the viewer can decide how much shirt collar tugging there needs to be. Thankfully when sets for Walt Disney Treasures, Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes Golden Collection releases were done they had those intros by people like Leonard Maltin and Whoopi Goldberg to say how the stereotypes portrayed weren’t right then and aren’t now, but will be presented as they were on first release. Though I think we can all agree how uncomfortable it is to watch something like Mickey Rooney doing asianface in Breakfast at Tiffany’s as a prime example.
I think the cancelation of cancelling should be cancelled. When THEY cancel cancelling cancellations, THEY also impede our God given right to cancel cancelling. Who else is with me?
Both Pepe and Speedy can still be seen on MeTv network cartoon shows. What's most interesting about Speedy is that he always wins. So why would a character who always wins be considered offensive? Cancel culture in all its forms is BS.
If you're going to cancel any Speedy Gonzales cartoons, start with the mid/late 1960s Speedy Gonzales-Daffy Duck cartoons.. They were awful, not funny, poorly animated, and drag down the otherwise impeccable catalog from Looney Tunes-Merrie Melodies.
COME on ppl these are not racist cartoons they should watch what Your kids are doing on line and some video game. Training starts at home. I have watched these cartoons my whole life
It sounds like they did but then brought him back. It's despicable proof that they are just trying to appease twitter snowflakes rather than actually trying to do right by the groups they feel are being "marginalised".
@@Vassilinia These people need to stop and talk to these groups and find out what offends them and what doesn't. They might be surprised at the answers!
Also he is now the voice of him (or at least was for the new Space Jam film). Plus I know the latinos love the character and as a 28 year old white guy I can say I never saw a problem with him.
The problem is that a lot of these cancel culture activist types really have no stake in the game. They're not Mexican or Hispanic, and they're taking offense on BEHALF of the Mexicans and Hispanics that disagree with them. It's ridiculous.
It's so incredibly wrong but what can we do? Any opinion that isn't by a SJW is wrong and will certainly label you as a rapist, racist or misogynist. It's Disney mentality gone wild. I'm so burnt out by it all I only have violence left as a response.
Cartoons and films from the past should be shown unedited. Recently "Chicken Soup for the Soul" acquired The Little Rascals and they are posting all the episodes on UA-cam, including episodes that were banned from TV since the 1970s.
So the SJWs want SG canceled but they produced the upcoming Disney's Hola Primos, where the leading voice actress --a Latina herself-- defends her poor spanish diction on basis of it being a "conquistador" language. Why do we take this people seriously at all?
The Cancel Culture people should start with their own culture. Yes, CANCEL Cancel Culture! After they cancel themselves, then, nobody needs to worry about it anymore.
My boss and I were talking about this very thing that cancel culture would be gunning for Speedy Gonzales.Facebook had a picture of the Frito Bandito and people were weeping and wailing about it.
That’s a concerning question. You have to ask yourself this question is there a space that can exist for ‘woke’ cartoons and old cancelled cartoons or does one of them have to go? I think you can’t have both and one has to go.
Speedy was my all-time favorite! His abilities were considerable, but it was his attitude - always cheerful, respectful and group oriented. Even "Fastest Mouse in all of Mexico" wasn't a boast, it was who he was. Mel Blanc once said that Bugs Bunny was a "Stinker," a troublemaker. But Speedy was, to me a Gentleman, a Good Sport, a Compadre.
I hate the social engineering that we're being subjected to. It's the vocal minority that is driving it, but the unheard majority are made to feel that everyone is in agreement. It says a lot that the Latin Americans themselves liked the cartoon and did not find it offensive. Perhaps it's time to stop allowing our society to be directed by the angry, obsessed few and allow democracy to function properly. If you're being held down and forced to watch the cartoon then that's a problem. Otherwise just pick up the remote and switch it off. And stop whining about.
Bugs bunny is next should have been first. Gayest character ever, promotes drag/ crossdressing. Cancel Culture can be overdone but not always. Another word for it is Accountability. Canceling Speedy is silly. Have you seen the Ren & Stimpy episode where Ren is milking a . . . bull? (it gets worse. Much worse). However, I laughed.
Even as a 7 year old I thought this cartoon sucked, along with peppy skunk and sadistic Tom and Jerry, if they were on I'd spin the dial and look for something else. Ya, George of the jungle!

Let me explain this from the perspective of a non-Mexican, POC; SPEEDY gets a pass, because he’s such a great HERO; plus his narrative plays strongly into a set of images many Latinos can appreciate from their own cultural perspective; and what most POC’s want to see in movies and TV are characters that they ca respect and relate to, ESPECIALLY if, like Speedy, those characters are created and owned by people outside their group; Speedy is fast, and clever, and a champion and protector of his people; he’s set up so that the audience laughs with him, not at him; this is often not the case POC characters in Warner Bros. cartoons; many of the other characters aren’t characters, they’re just a bunch of “fill in the blank” jokes, shoved into and animated shell
Speedy Gonzales is getting canceled?! I did not even know he had a new show! All this time I could have been watching a modern tightly scripted show about a really fast mouse. Is it a gritty re-boot? Or is he a superhero fighting CGI aliens?
I am in my 60's I grew up watching Looney Tunes and other similar cartoons. I am tolerant and not in any way biased against French skunks, American rabbits, Mexican mice, people with speech impediments or any other person with the 'flaws' depicted in these cartoons. Our beliefs are inculcated into us by our parents and family and the so called influence of 'TV' is vastly over exaggerated. The moral panic and the call to cancel movies and TV that does not align with modern sensibilities is driven by later generations that have come after those who saw them as impressionable youngsters who still grew into good people. History should be taught, it is not a boogeyman to fear.

mexicans love speedy.....they will never cancel him
the whole of Latin America love Speedy
...admittedly most of Latin America are racist against Mexicans . . .
Anyone who is threatened by the likes of Classic Cartoons is obviously too mentally ill to be “Cancelling” ANYONE OR ANYTHING.
I also want to see the return of Slow-Poke Rodriguez.
"Bender Bending Rodriguez" still exists.;)
I allways loved it, when Rodriguez taught Gonzales that speed isn't the only weapon that exists. 😁😁
In one cartoon, Slowpoke was described not only as "The Slowest Mouse in All Mexico", but also as "The Fastest GUN in All Mexico".
I always liked him more than Speedy since Slow Poke is a lot like me in personality. I always saw myself in him.
Don't cancel, compete. If you don't like the cartoons you're seeing, create your own and put them out there. May the best cartoons win!!
I don't get it. Speedy was always the hero, he isn't stupid, he's the good guy.
I think you answered your own question.
My uncle thought he was the mascot for the Mexican drug cartels. 😆
Canceling Speedy Gonzalez would be doubly racist, since Speedy is not only Hispanic, he is also a racer
I got an idea....Instead of cancelling everything else, how about we all just cancel 'cancel culture' instead... Who's with me ✌️
Like a bad virus I’m with you.
I'm with you! cancel "Cancel Culture"!
Count Me In Because I Love Looney Tunes Pepe Le Pew and Speedy Gonzales
Me too!

I don't think any of these cartoons should be canceled, period, they're apart of our culture and our generation - multiple generations.

These people just want attention. We need to quit letting them get there way.

this is WHY I like my cartoons uncut Uncensored on VIDEO!!

They cannot face what they are. Cancellation makes them feel better.
It is more going on in the world than being worried about a cartoon mouse, skunk, coyote, etc. People are so easily manipulated.
Speedy Gonzalez is my Alter Ego
Remember Speedy's cousin Slowpoke Rodriguez "The slowest mouse in all of Mexico?" He was slow but he carried a gun.
Geeez! Shades of 'Song of the South' this is totally out of hand and the SJW's (Social Justice 'warriors' ( what a joke)) should be cancelled.
When there was talk of deleting Speedy Gonzales, it was Mexicans were got upset about it!
Fluffy is there to defend our Speedy Gonzales
