Mate u did an epic job of stitching that together!! Absolutely brilliant. What a night that must have been. Gotta have the righ gear for those conditions!! Great stuff as always mate class vid 👌💪👍
Ah cheers, Simon. Couldn't believe it at the time, but am glad I could raise something from the wreckage! This was a strong tent night for sure 💪 Thanks for giving it a watch 🤜🤛
Good morning James. Sorry you couldn't get back most of your footage, I did fear the worst when I mentioned it, thankfully you got a little bit to show. I've been wanting to go out and camp, but unfortunately I only have 2 sleeping bags and none would cope with the weather as it is now, the best one has only got a comfort rating of zero and its well below that with the wind chill factor taken into the equation. Thanks for sharing, enjoy the rest of your weekend and see you on your next adventure ✌️ 🤟 🤙 merry Christmas and a happy new year 🎉 😀
Hi Rich. I feared that all of the footage would be lost for good as well. Not much of it survived, but I have learnt that SD cards need to be formatted regularly to keep them working quickly and reliably. Don't think I've ever done that in the past, so hopefully turning over a new leaf will help with that. It's possible to compromise on some camping equipment, but you definitely need to be able to keep warm. Hopefully your current setup only rules out 2 or 3 months of the year for camping at the moment. Something for Father Christmas to help out with, perhaps? 😁 Happy Christmas! Thanks, James.
@@joinmeoutdoors heavy frost -4 overnight but beautiful sunny morning here so lovely to be out with the dogs today 😀, have to wait for next week for skiing in Austria for the snow!!
Thanks Kev, me too. I passed a couple at Llyn Y Fan Fach on my way up, and saw them again an hour later on their way back down, but nope, no-one else camping up on Picws Du as far as I could tell. Sensible people 🤣
@@joinmeoutdoors it is one of the roughest areas in the Beacons to camp by all accounts. Certainly need to take a decent tent with you, I do wonder how average tents would have got on in that wind...
@@TheWalkingKev I would agree with that assessment, although one of my most silent camps was quite close to this spot. It was utterly breathless. The only other time I camped there was the 105 mph day... I think my Vik 1 would have folded in half and turned me into a skewer.
@@joinmeoutdoors If I was taking a budget tent it would have to be as low as possible. Although I guess the Nordisk Svalbard is a budget tent, I'd take that up. A lot of my other tents would most likely fail in those conditions though!
Well put together video. Tough but good trip out for you. I go running on the fells but don't wild camp. If I ever start it I will remember your tent pegging, thanks. New subscriber.
Thanks a lot, and welcome to my channel 😊 Yes it's easy to obsess over saving weight, but for the sake of another 100 grams of tent pegs/stakes, you can really affect the outcome of a windy camp! Cheers, James.
Well done James, you done a great with salvaging the footage of your filming. It was a great watch. Also nice to see you back out in the Soulo. Was that a solo camp if so I raise my hat high to you as I would have been worried myself in those freezing conditions on the mountains with the tent pegs rocking. The double pegging seems to have added the security needed. Nice to see the Soulo hold up in those conditions. Do you think your Tera Nova would have handled it? Well done! thanks Keith
Thanks a lot Keith, I'm glad the video still worked out. And yes, this was another solo camp. The Soulo has a strong reputation as I'm sure you know, so once the pegs were addressed I felt quite confident that it would hold up. If it had broken, it would just have been a case of staying put and waiting till morning. I was wondering how the Southern Cross would have handled that weather too. Provided the wind was attacking end-on, I think it would have been fine. Side-on might have been a different matter though. Thanks for watching! James.
Thanks, though I'm sorry to hear about your GoPro. The temperatures sound very similar. Did you have a memory card error flash up as well then? Or was the camera itself the issue? I have formatted my memory card and it's worked fine on its first outing since. I'll format it regularly from now on. ATB, James.
@@joinmeoutdoors the screen kept shutting down and a few shots were corrupted, battery was awful too, think might benefit from some sort of insulated cover
Oh dear. You must have got it well and truly cold! Batteries really hate low temperatures - can't blame them really 😆 I hope it's all working okay again now that it's warmed up.
The backpack was over 19 kg for this one so it was quite heavy going 😂 Yep, the forecast was a long way out (the winds were about 3 times the predicted speeds).
@@joinmeoutdoors that’s some weight. Contemplating a winter trip this week. If I need crampons and snow shoes, it might not be far off that! Crazy wind speeds to camp in.
Great job James. Nobody is worried about the quality of the video. Enjoyed it as much as all your others. Excellent.
Ah thanks, Pete. I'm sure you understand though, as a fellow 'Tuber! Thanks for stopping by 😊 James.

What a shame about the footage! You put the remaining bits together excellently, great watch as always 😎
Yeah real shame. I just hope it doesn't happen again any time soon!! Thank you very much 😊
Thanks for sharing this so we don't have to do it and stay nice and snug under the duvet with the fire going 😀!!
Haha my pleasure! I even had a bit of snow on the way down. Rumour has it there's snow around the UK today as well...👀

Those sound like dreamy winter dog walking conditions 😍 Plenty of snow on the slopes in Austria I bet! Have a good one!
😂
Beast of a camp...👍
Cheers Simon 🙏🏻
Glad you were able to recover enough to tell the story. Looked very peaceful, not many people fancying that exposed ridge in that weather it seems.

Yeah that possibly would've held on! I reckon the OEX Phoxx 1 and 2 would possibly have survived too, being so low to the ground and slopy-sided.
This shows why these tents are so expensive. Great vid fella.
Absolutely. I think some of my other tents would have turned into UFOs in that weather 😂🛸 Cheers Jason.
