Jews in New Mexico: 1850-1900

German Jewish merchants arrived in New Mexico in the mid to late 1840s. The settled in Santa Fe, and the earliest families were the Spiegelbergs and the Staabs. Later, the Ilfeld family set up a commercial empire in Las Vegas, NM. This is the history of those early families, a presentation by Prof. Ron Duncan Hart to the Historic Santa Fe Foundation.
