There are four strategically important achievements:
    1)Nukes didn’t fly.
    2) Russian didn’t strike countries who provided weapons to attack Russia territory
3)No increase in mobilization of Russians: they really don’t care
    4) Putin will not be able to say: Let’s have a peace discussion based on current situation.

actual dumb achievements... focusing on lets see how much we can push till russia nukes a country, typical western mindset, so please do not be the first to cry about russia using tactical nukes on ukraine if it ever happens because this previous comment will make you look like a dumbass and if it ever happens (all of us hope not) russia might gain a strategically important achievement in your thought process, that the west isn't willing to end all of civilization over a country they aren't even allied with rather focus on their actual achievements, element of surprise, the fact they can actually take russian land and put them on the defensive

My understanding is that UKR intelligence was publicly bitching about a Russian concentration north of Kharkiv potentially attacking Sumy, and publicly announced reinforcements to Sumy. Russians didn't realize that was potentially an offensive force until at best 3 days pre-operation, and that it was a serious op until 2-3 days after. They expected a the Russian Legion type attack. This is a good intelligence operation. Show the opponent what they expect to see and they won't think further.

The Russian doctrine is this way of war. Just think about it, they have elite Ukrainian soldiers with best equipment served on Russian fields and roads with 0 fortifications and tranches, instead of hard slow, and deadly push into Ukrainian heavily fortified stronghold and endless tranches. Russians are not naive as represented... This is the way they wining wars.

There were agreements between Russia, NATO, the US and Ukraine that the conflict should not go beyond the current borders. As we see, once again the West has broken its own promises. The Russians have not yet done anything like that and have not attacked Kyiv or bases in Europe. But with such a Western policy, it is a matter of time.

Ukraine loses some territory lots of manpower and in exchange gets to join the west.
As an American that seems like a great deal for me.
Not such a great deal for Ukraine or Russia but from our perspective this is awesome.
The 2 losers here are Russia and Ukraine the biggest winner is NATO and the next biggest winner is China who gets to turn Russia into its bitch. Thanks for the video Preston. Ive been in Ukraine since may 2022 helping their military with training.
Tactical and medical side of the house.
The major problem is OPSEC. They used it greatly and effectively however it only last a few weeks.
I swear you still see soldiers in the trench lines broadcasting their position with cellphones.
However its mainly because there no "coms gear".
I truly hope this can show that Ukraine's shouldn't have phones on the lines and show how to properly push an objective, planning. Where so many units fail at in Ukraine. Being soviet is still hard on the command element.
Keep up the great work, brother.

Totally agree with you, I was in Ukraine from April 2022 to October 2023, serving in the Ukrainian International Legion, in 3-ОБСпП, (3rd Special Purpose Battalion) Well, at first I was assigned to the 1st Battalion, but right after my first deployment to Donbas region and my first combat operation at Severodonetsk. Me and two other Americans were transferred to the 3rd Battalion. Where I continued to serve until May 19th, 2023, that's when I was wounded by a shrapnel during routine artillery bombardments of our positions.
Our company consisted mainly of Americans and Canadians, there were also a few Poles, but the commanders and officers were all Ukrainians. We also most of the time worked along with Ukrainian units. I'm a US Army combat veteran myself, with multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Therefore I was also bewildered when at first I saw soldiers using their cell phones to call back home, to their girlfriends, wives, mothers, or whoever. Making calls on their cellphones out of our front line trench positions. Lots of times even officers used their cell phones to call back to their command post back in the rear, and unlike mobilized soldiers or volunteer 20 year olds, Officer indeed knew the dangers and tried all sorts of tricks like crawling out our position little farther out to make a call. They all acknowledge that this is all due to the lack of adequate equipment. Otherwise they are the bravest, boldest, straight forward, "Bring it on!" type of guys. It was a pleasure knowing, serving and fighting amongst them. If you have been to Ukraine training/helping them to win this war of Russian aggression. You probably noticed their will to fight for their homes, their families, freedom and purely their right of existence. Therefore I think Western countries need to do everything what they can to help them win this war. Putin is like a Hitler of the 21st century, and if Russia wins over Ukraine. Ukraine was just a start for them. So all western countries must do everything possible to help Ukraine, to finally stop Russia in its tracks of their imperial ambition and push them back behind their borders.
If or when I bring myself back to 100% being healthy after my injury on May 19th, 2023 and when I feel that I'm capable of, and if by then it's not over yet. I definitely will go back. But with all my heart, I wish peace to Ukraine will come soon. (Only on Ukrainian Terms though) Or in another word, I hope Ukraine emerges as a victor in this meetgrinder of a war that Russia started. Glory to Ukraine. Слава Україні!

Especially links to things you can't show on UA-cam as iv gone to follow up on many, many aspects of this war and palastines, and am met with dead ends. I live in Canada and Bill C-11 actively filters my search results to what's favorable to the government. That's not my words that literally in the bill. So following up can be extremely hard as the first 10 pages or often more are filled with NOTHING but CNN, CBC, NBC, etc. You can search verbatim the headline and it will show me something "similar" from a major news network. This area was the site of the largest tank battle for a reason. The Ukrainian battle plan has or had one thing Germany lacked, surprise. There was a good book on the subject “the Tigers are Burning”. It’s about the terrain. It’s a chock point. Mountain terrain to the north of the Kurst area and rivers and swamp to the south east. They have cut the west way by taking out those bridges. So strategy is set by terrain which limits the ability to counter the Ukrainian attack and consolidation of that area. As you said with the probing operations Ukraine got the tactical plan and exploited it. The Germans tried to take this area and failed for a reason. Once Ukrainian forces take and consolidate they too will have that advantage exploited by Russia in World War 2. Look closely and the bottlenecks will stand out. But I should say that I am only giving my opinion and like throw it up to see if it might find worth examination. “The Tigers are Burning” is excellent for terrain. There are several other books that discuss this area.
To the point of Ukraine reaching the objective of isolating and consolidating this area. The choke points would create a fortress for the Russians to attack. A fortress that Ukraine will be able to put Russian on the respondent role. Which could cause a reallocation of force from the Eastern Ukrainian front. Which might be where the still unused western material is to be used.

" Mountain terrain to the north of the Kurst area and rivers and swamp to the south east. "
Nice story, but one problem, they attack south-west. And they are already slowed down, while there was hardly defense. The Germans took a way much more east and they came from the north.
"They have cut the west way by taking out those bridges."
Sorry, they did attack from south-west, and they could have taken area you are talking about easily, there was no defense.
". Which could cause a reallocation of force from the Eastern Ukrainian front. "
Why? they have forces who were already active in Ukraine still in Belarus.
The target was NPP, that is why they did not take area west, south of bridges.
But why does Ukraine want that area? You never heard about FAB's?
" A fortress that Ukraine will be able to put Russian on the respondent role."
Ukraine is losing fortresses in the East, why build a new one here?
" Once Ukrainian forces take and consolidate they too will have that advantage exploited by Russia in World War 2. "
Kursk was a disaster for Russia when you look at quantity. They had one advantage, they could bring new ones.

Depends on the unit. Some conscripts that were held up in larger settlements and not scattered across border checkpoints fought very well before surrendering. Some may still be fighting. I guess it really depends on the confidence the conscripts have in their training, leadership, and equipment.

Anyone who is very unaware of the reality of warfare has no concept of just how hard and dangerous it is for even the best of the best to assault enemy positions and the countless amounts of unknown possibilities that may or may not go wrong that you can’t plan for once it’s all in motion either.
It takes a tough and determined effort for an assaulting element not to just panic and try to run away the minute people start dying and everything goes wrong, certainly the absolute worst scenario for any inexperienced conscript to potentially find themselves in.

Not because he was a spy, or hated the US, but just because he was trying to show off to his friends about how badass he was. Caused a LOT of handwringing in the US military, because A) this guy had a secret clearance when he was clearly an immature idiot. B) His bosses all noticed him poking his nose into servers he wasn't allowed to access and didn't shut him down right away. They just told him to "quit messing around" and of course he didn't. Good grief, the trolling in this comment section is almost as impressive as the freaking war. Guys, it is extremely doubtful Ukraine intends to keep Kursk the way Russia is annexing Ukrainian territory, but they are forcing Russia to fight them along a longer front and that is already impacting the frontline in the Donbas. There is also the minor matter that Russia is advancing, but at an asinine cost in both men and materiel. Will they eventually get all of the Donbas? Maybe, but Russian women are going to have a lot fewer men to choose from - though, from what I understand of Russian men, they may consider this a net win.
The only real risk here is western support fading, and more specifically, Donald Trump winning the US presidential election. For better or worse, the west is keeping Ukraine in the fight, but not letting them go after Russia hard, which means this thing will drag out until Putin gets tired of the political and economic costs. It's Afghanistan with better press coverage.
