Colorado 14ers: Handies Peak via American Basin Hike Guide
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лип 2023
- In late June 23, I revisited one of my favorite 14ers, Handies Peak via the Southwest Slopes in the American Basin. This was Aria's first 14er and an awesome day in the San Juans.
Thanks to @henketooraw for the tunes as always

Congrats to Aria! What a good pupper.
Fun story: When I hiked Handies last summer I was passed by a 3 legged dog absolutely cruising up with a much fitter owner than myself. Definitely a dog friendly hike in summer conditions.
Great videos young man.
Snow fungus,never knew...
..
This was the last 14er I got to take my beautiful Tootsie up before she passed in March so it holds a special place for us as well. We took the infinitely harder Grizzly Gulch approach.
Aria is such a good girl!!!!
RIP Juno
Rip Juno ❤️

Got the late video tip. Appreciate you haha
I have the sudden urge for a cinnameron roll
Always 😂
Thanks!
appreciate it!
Great video. (you need a Seattle Seahawks t-shirt!)
Good guide to a beautiful place!
Missing the San Juan’s
Great video; it really captures the overwhelming enchantment of being in the San Juans. Congrats to Aria! Wanted to do Handies two years ago with my mom, but unfortunately the conditions did not cooperate when we got up to Lake City.
Handie’s was a piece of cake. I slept in a hanging valley, only to be invaded by a herd of ungulates.
Nice hike. Don't eat the brown snow. Lol. All that snow looks like late May instead of late June.
Thanks for the Bonus Views!
Thanks for watching the whole thing 🙏🏽
Drone shots @ the end are wild 🔥🔥🔥
I like the tips for the doggo as well
Really grateful for your work and videos, gonna buy some merch to support, thanks!
Much appreciated, thanks so much.
Handies was my first fourteener. I think I was 13 years old? I remember I left my boots too close to the fire the night before and hiked up with a half melted sole the next day. Thanks for the video
I'm planning to go on this hike. Thanks!
Nice waterfall in the bonus content!
Absolutely love this upload, shots and overall atmosphere are spectacular my friend! 👏👏
Always appreciate it, thanks!
Thanks. Had so wanted to do Handies this year (I'm from the flat lands of Missouri), but our trip has been postponed till next year. Hope there is as much snow next year. R.I.P. Juno! Peace
Haven't checked in on you in a while. Glad I did. We wanted to do Handies peak in 2020, but something messed it up. Looking forward to it. Cheers! Oh, and don't eat colored snow.... LOL
Great video, as always! Some friends and I are doing Bierstadt next week - do you recommend winter clothing? I wasn't sure when this footage was recorded.
Always good to have layers but you won’t have any snow up there now. Down south some still but this was about 3 weeks ago.
The state of the San Juans right now is insane. As much as I like snow, it might be a problem for our plans of hiking uncompahgre soon.
You should be g2g on Uncompahgre - I imagine its mostly melted out by now. American Basin tends to hold a little more snow than a lot of the other peaks in the area for some reason.
Snow wasn't an issue on Uncompahgre for us on 6/28 and it was melting quite rapidly. A couple minor snowfields but not anything we needed traction for. You are good to go mate.
Could you rank the peaks by the scary factor not mileage and elevation cause I can do that but I get scared of heights and hate walking on cliffs lol
Hopefully the video footage of each hike can help you evaluate that for yourself. "Scary factor" is too relative to the individual.
@@TheVirtualSherpa thanks man been watching forsure. I wish I was cooler wish the sketchy stuff but not my style. Thanks for the videos
What breed is your dog? Seems very behaved and a good listener..
