There's something about that Nameless amp! The cali kinda reminds me of the old swedish death metal tone. All sound good but the nameless takes it for me.
@@jasonstallworth I completely agree! I now own most of the Neural DSP programs, and I love them all, but this one really sticks out for me in terms of tone and dynamics!
Great demo. Great way to hear them in context. Thanks! I have many of these neural DSP plug-ins. They sound amazing. A good amp for a grunge sound that they have. It’s a little surprising but it is the Tone King.
Definitely some solid tones. This isn’t a sim but it’s my latest review from small home studio tones and desktop recording: ua-cam.com/video/g8qY7cH6III/v-deo.htmlsi=eWfK3Ak_Qn4kEH2b
@@jasonstallworth It's just so aggressive sounding 😈 I've been messed around with the Granophyre trial too, really impressed with all these Neural plugins! I Might end up grabbing both since they're 50% off right now 😈
The NTS and Nameless are absolutely amazing, but the CALI just has a.... "Flavor" that really gives a unique twist to the hot rodded EL34 tone. I like this one the best because of just how versatile it is and that extra crushing flavor it has. I really cant describe it... maybe thats why i like it so much?
Yeah, that Cali does seem more versatile for different styles than the others! Oh dude, you may have this but here's the link to my practice guide that I give my subs: www.jasonstallworth.com/guitarist/
Michael Færgegaard You’re welcome dude!! All three are pretty awesome. I’ve been playing with the NTS for so long and have become accustomed to that tone. But the Cali is growing on me!
Thank you for this comparison video, Jason! Personally I think I'd like the Cali for more Djent-y oriented pieces, NTS for Heavy/Power/Classic metal, and Nameless for everything else
%50 off until 1st May! I liked the Cali most. It has reverb and delay too. Sounds great and other pedals are working pretty good. I might get the Cali. Tomorrow watching this video, before deciding. I also wish Fortin NTS had Delay/Reverb update as well, I like it as well... Because when you are using it as standalone, there is no way to add delay/reverb to your leads, cleans... Without DAW. EDIT: I also get nice tones on the second overdrive. on Cali with overdrive and boost pedal. It sounds nice.
Cali sounds more tame. I like it! I own Nolly and think I can get similar metal tones from amps 3 and 4. But the Cali can get good Plexi tones when dialed right. I wouldn’t say it’s a 1 trick pony. Good video, should have more likes. 👍
Jason Stallworth Just listened to your Masterpiece album for the first time. Great metal riffs! The whole album is fantastic. Do you use plugins for all your metal tones? I see an EVH in the corner!
Nice job. very helpful! I understand why you like the NTS but It never sounds as good to me in comparison videos as the Nameless. I love the versatility of the Cali.
For me Cali kind of overlaps with the Nameless, so I didn't get it. But all 3 sounds killer and honestly any one of these three would get you amazing tone. Amazing video btw!
Yeah dude, I didn't end up buying the Cali. Really no need to since I have NTS and Nameless. And I'm mainly using plugins to just record my initial tracks. I'll be recording my album tracks with a live amp
They all sound great. I own two of them (the Nameless and the NTS), and the NTS is my favorite. It sounds way better than the Cali, which sounds too harsh and kinda fizzy for my taste. I was really impressed by the Nameless when I bought it and it's also one of my favorites, but it's a one-trick pony to me, although, you can still get some versatility out of it when you lower the gain. The NTS is so underrated and it's perfect for that melodeath/metalcore sound I love.
Commenting before I finish the video but for me it's Nameless,Cali then NTS in that order. Not sure why I liked the nameless better maybe it has to do with growing up with 80's thrash metal and I love that sound. I've tested the demos for them all except the Cali and honestly I love each plugin for different reasons. I wish I could afford them all and it;s making it really hard to settle on just one.
Paul G. Yeah dude the Nameless does give us what we crave from our thrash metal roots. I own all except the Cali. I haven’t pulled the trigger on that one yet.
I think that all of their amp sims lack a satisfying low end and I personally don’t find them great to play through, my Helix tones are far more satisfying but I have had the Helix a long time and know how to get my tone from it. What I will say about the Neural DSP plug ins is that they’re perfect for mixing with, the bottom end I said was missing is out of the way from the start and there’s something special about the mid range of these plugs which I think they nailed.
xplanet2112 I hear what you’re saying about the low end and there is some tweaking to be done to fill that in. I have not played through the Helix and would really like to try that. I actually have a ton of videos on the HD500 that I used for many years before I went to using plugins.
Hahahahahahaha the update on the which amp. could be your favourite at 12:13 was so funny :D, hahaha yeah what you like can change, and you'd find other amps sounding cool.
Would love to hear the same riff played back to back with the three Sims. Very difficult to tell with the changing riffs at the same time as the amp sims
Nameless sounds spot on to me. Need to test these out with the 60% off right now for today only! 🤣 Edit: Hmm, ending up getting Cali. It just brought about something extra in my playing, and switching back to the other two made Nameless sound a bit thin, and the NTS kind of too warm, whereas the Cali could aproximate those tones near enough and do amazing cleans, hmmmm. Maybe I'm just a sucker for white GUI's. I'll probably regret my choice.
I like the nameless for rhythms the best and think the NTS has a very warm sound for a metal amp that sounds nice for leads. That Cali might be the first Neural tone I haven’t really liked. Just not my bag.
Hi Jason from vasque country in spain. Great video and great riffs. My firts option was nts but maybe when i mix guitars with the other instruments sounds a bit better with nameless. I think that is more clear sound. The nts in my opinion is darker. But is a best too. A wonderfull best. What do you think about the mix? Thanks for your videos. Keep pushing walls down whith your riffs. See you again soon.
Yeah I was using the NTS more than Nameless, and I only had the Cali demo..I didn't buy it. I've recently gone back to using BIAS Amp 2 and FX 2 more. My beef with the Fortin plugins is they were all in one with effects where as the Fortin doesn't have that. And when you start stacking plugins on top of plugins, it can drag down CPU
I use EZ Drummer's Metal Machine pack for videos like this. And they're great to use for writing and recording your initial tracks. But for my albums and pro releases, I hire a real drummer (Cameron Fleury) - that dude is amazing on drums
I am assuming this has to have been eq'ed? The Nameless is a pretty noisy amp in the 4and 5k range, but I don't hear it as badly in your videos as many others.
All great ampsims, that's for sure! The nameless is a one trick pony to me though - especially good for low tuned guitars. The Cali (or the used IRs) has some frequencies in it that don't like so much. The NTS is my favourite, got it myself. Brutal dryness, typical Fortin type of sound. No so much in this particular video. Are the screenshots the actual settings? I prefer having Grind almost all the way up but the girth up to 10 or 11 o'clock. Above that I don't like the characteristic of sound and grain structure anymore...but of course that's a matter of personal taste :-)
Dude, that NTS is extremely brutal! I really started favoring that amp when I got my 7 string. And yes, those are pretty much the settings. I'm actually going to create a blog post though and will have more screenshots on that for individual settings. I have that for the NTS and Nameless here: www.jasonstallworth.com/fortin-nts-and-nameless/
For metal, like retreading that 90s psuedo industrial but not quite industrial sound... that Nameless suite does it for me. I also have the Cali and it has that extra body that gives it a unique character. Its more versatile. But I'm not versatile so I've been sticking with the Nameless

Matt Anderson That means I probably need to revisit my EQ and settings, so that’s really great feedback
